Well I surppose peoples opinion on how young he looks can depend on what age you are yourself. I am a couple of years younger than him so I think he looks older than 27. If you think he looks too young fair enough. After all the show is marketed to childern and i'm sure to them he looks more than old enough. Beg to differ, He has basically been asbent from the show since 2008...If you don't count the 2008 Christmas Special, almost a full-two years. This special was fair, followed by that totally atrocious "Planet of the Dead", and even "Waters of Mars" though an improvement, wasn't that great (Plus none of the other tripe specials we got had that much continuity with the end anyway). Yes, Matt Smith carried the day in this because Billy Pioer was basically shit in the role, unable even to carry the same accent thru. She was okay for her tiny bit in this finale but only as a moment over time. Piper will forever be typecast as a hooker (and not a very good looking one, especially NUDE!) for "Diary of a Call Girl".)., When I saw this story and the followup episode on PBS, I knew Matt Smith was alright and was really excited when he was named d.T.s replacement.

I would have liked to watch ninth for a few more seasons but he told them he didn't want to do Doctor Who anymore so they got David. They originally considered David for the ninth but they chose Chris instead. Oh well what can you do?
And if anyone else wants to see the whole "with regeneration comes a new body and personality", just take a look at the 5th Doctor regenerating to the 6th Doctor. The BBC should have it on their page.
What people need to remember is that with every regeneration the Doctor has, not only does he have a new body, but a new personality as well. I'm very interested to see how Matt Smith will do.
And to philpay95, the man who you are thinking of is named Peter Davison, the 5th Doctor. And mind you, he actually played the Doctor quite brilliantly if you ask me. I think the reason that people think that Matt Smith won't be any good is that past shows he's been in have involved him being a character without much personality or oomph, or a cockney accent, so we haven't really got anything to judge him on...he hasn't acted any character that could compare to the doctor...so, we'll see...

really... How many james bonds have there been? They are supost to look alike and act alike. but they dont. The beauty of Doctor Who is that whenever a charectar want to leave (companion) you can just place them of somwhere in time and space and never walk over the again. In any drama you can do that. But in normal drama... It is really lame when every one have to die and so forth. In doctor who they gave them the ability to regenerate, and so, the show can live forever.
and what will happen to torchwood anyway? If jack does not age... What will happen when the actor dies? or wants to leave? that is why jack left this summer, right? Ofc... he is not totaly gone from torchwood and doctor who yet...
Torchwood will likely be less of a problem because it's never been expressly declared that Jack can't age, just that he can't die. In fact, there have been several allusions in Doctor Who to the fact that, regardless of the fact Jack's a fixed point in time and space, he may just be human enough to age (Rose cheekily saying he's developing wrinkles and looking older, for example, and Jack himself questioning the Doctor whether he'll age like a human despite not dying like one).
I suppose for clarification sake I should mention that I think the confusion stems from the fact all the people Jack's visited comment on how he "doesn't look a day older" than from how he did when they first saw him. But we have to keep in mind he's a time agent. It might have been 2 years from when he last visited, but it might have been 2 days. And who knows -- maybe being not quite human does something to his aging process; he may age, just not at a "normal" rate.

By the way there is a possibility that David Tennant could return because if Matt Smith touches the other Doctor the half Time Lord Half Human Doctor then its possible that the energy will react with Matt Smith's cells and turn uim back to David tennant or the other way

Im all for giving chances for anyone that takes the role of the beloved doctor . but i think that this new doctor is a bit young . it seems TV has this pretty young boy "twilight" bug. which i dont find entertaining . im sure this lad is a fine actor . but i dont think he should be playing a 900yr old time lord . i think early 30's is the youngest they should ever go with the doctor . hell this kid looks not much older than sarah janes kid . common now

And he's not that much younger than Davidson. Did you see his regeneration? Considering he's following the best-loved Doctor EVER, and the fact that he *knows* this, I thought he was amazing. Really made me laugh after the tears I shed at DT's final line. If you're not convinced, find the trailer for Series 5, and pause at about 0:38. See the look on Matt's face? That look is why Matt IS the Doctor. Love DT, but he chose to go. Let's not condemn Dr Who just coz we can't handle change, eh?

well my first impression of Matt is thats he seems to young and boyish , and i was never a big fan of Davidson i thought he was a ok doctor . Again we will have to see if this kid can do it or ruin it .

Pretty boy? lol, I dont think so. If there was a pretty boy Doctor then it would be David Tennant as women seem to fancy the hell out of him. And come on, he looks a lot older thanvsarah janes kid. Moffat made a good point when he sais that even a 60 year old actor would be too young to play a 900 year old. If he regeneration is surposed to be random then how is it wierd that he has the appearance of a 27 year old.

Well I surppose peoples opinion on how young he looks can depend on what age you are yourself. I am a couple of years younger than him so I think he looks older than 27. If you think he looks too young fair enough. After all the show is marketed to childern and i'm sure to them he looks more than old enough. I personally think he is too ugly to for the whole pretty boy thing, which is a good thing after the pretty boy/romance thing David Tennant had gonign on.

Beg to differ, He has basically been asbent from the show since 2008...If you don't count the 2008 Christmas Special, almost a full-two years. This special was fair, followed by that totally atrocious "Planet of the Dead", and even "Waters of Mars" though an improvement, wasn't that great (Plus none of the other tripe specials we got had that much continuity with the end anyway). NO, if it hadn't have been for the last 15 minutes, D.T. would've gone out leaving a bad taste. M.Smith will rule!

Yes, Matt Smith carried the day in this because Billy Pioer was basically shit in the role, unable even to carry the same accent thru. She was okay for her tiny bit in this finale but only as a moment over time. Piper will forever be typecast as a hooker (and not a very good looking one, especially NUDE!) for "Diary of a Call Girl".)., When I saw this story and the followup episode on PBS, I knew Matt Smith was alright and was really excited when he was named d.T.s replacement.

I would have liked to watch ninth for a few more seasons but he told them he didn't want to do Doctor Who anymore so they got David. They originally considered David for the ninth but they chose Chris instead. Oh well what can you do?

What people need to remember is that with every regeneration the Doctor has, not only does he have a new body, but a new personality as well. I'm very interested to see how Matt Smith will do.
And to philpay95, the man who you are thinking of is named Peter Davison, the 5th Doctor. And mind you, he actually played the Doctor quite brilliantly if you ask me. Pretty underrated, and in a lot of ways, reminds me of how David Tennant played his Doctor. Also, the 10th Doctor is a fan of the 5th! :-)

I think the reason that people think that Matt Smith won't be any good is that past shows he's been in have involved him being a character without much personality or oomph, or a cockney accent, so we haven't really got anything to judge him on...he hasn't acted any character that could compare to the doctor...so, we'll see...

Since you started watching with the ninth, you don't have any noption how ridiculous you sound. With the possible exception of the sixth, (shudders), whenever a Doctor is replaced, lots of fans go OH NO HE'S AWFUL EEEUGH. Then, years on, the same Doctor they said sucked is getting replaced. NO I LOVE THIS GUY HE'S BRILLIANT!
Matt Smith will probably not reach the same levels of greatness Tennant did. That's not to say he'll be a bad Doctor. Simply a different one.

Tennant was actually terrible in the first 3 episodes he was in IMO. Give Smith more than 1 chance, give him time to get into the character.

really... How many james bonds have there been? They are supost to look alike and act alike. but they dont. The beauty of Doctor Who is that whenever a charectar want to leave (companion) you can just place them of somwhere in time and space and never walk over the again. In any drama you can do that. But in normal drama... It is really lame when every one have to die and so forth. In doctor who they gave them the ability to regenerate, and so, the show can live forever.

Torchwood will likely be less of a problem because it's never been expressly declared that Jack can't age, just that he can't die. In fact, there have been several allusions in Doctor Who to the fact that, regardless of the fact Jack's a fixed point in time and space, he may just be human enough to age (Rose cheekily saying he's developing wrinkles and looking older, for example, and Jack himself questioning the Doctor whether he'll age like a human despite not dying like one).

I suppose for clarification sake I should mention that I think the confusion stems from the fact all the people Jack's visited comment on how he "doesn't look a day older" than from how he did when they first saw him. But we have to keep in mind he's a time agent. It might have been 2 years from when he last visited, but it might have been 2 days. And who knows -- maybe being not quite human does something to his aging process; he may age, just not at a "normal" rate.

he died in the grindlock episode as the face of boe (He told the doctor and martha he was named the face of boe at the end of season 3's last episode Last of the time lords). He ages, just immortal, can't die, but he still ages, slowly but ages
