Yeah, El Nino translates roughly to "The Little Boy", refering to the Christ Child as it usually occurs around christmas time. Also then, "La Nina" is the little girl, don't know if it has any symbolism but it's probably just to demonstrate that they are opposite.
"El Niño" is a meteorological phenomena that usally used to take place in the Pacific ocean.. is not a huriricane or a tropical storm but this phenomenon gives the right conditions for them, as well as for droughts.. "El Niño" is translated literaly in inglish as "The Boy" ..
