Actually, Vega was the name he was given originally, and M. Bison was the boxer's name. However, in the US, they didn't want it to sound like they were making the boxer into a parody of MIKE TYSON (which is what they pretty much did), so they switched several of the names around. Balrog (the Spanish fighter) became Vega, Bison became Balrog, and Vega became Bison.
