  • Amazing performance!!!

  • Oooh. I'm reading this book in English.. It's depressing.. lol

  • The actor who gave the warning about looters being shot was Philip Ahn, most likely the first American of Korean descent born in the U.S. As a high school student, he met Douglas Fairbanks, who offered him a screen test and a bit part in his "The Thief of Baghdad." But Ahn's mother nixed the idea, saying: "No son of mine is going to get mixed up with those awful people." lol Many decades later, Ahn gained lasting fame as Master Kan in the "Kung Fu" tv series.

  • That wasnt in the book

  • but can she make orange chicken?

  • No woman has ever been more deserving of an Oscar than Luise Rainer in "The Good Earth." I've seen "Camille" twice, and Greta Garbo plays, as usual, Greta Garbo. Garbo was so limited by her masculine looks and deadpan delivery that it amazes me she is considered to have ever been a great actress. Luise Rainer is nearly unrecognizable in this movie, and BECOMES O-lan. One of the best performances by ANYONE in movie history, hands down.

  • i love this book

  • Looks like a real Chinese ,always in FEAR ,ESCAPING ,WAR-FIRE ...

  • She´s a wonderful actress, very beautiful and brilliant, but Irene Dunne should have won for The Awful Truth that year. She deserved the oscar the previously year for The Great Ziegfeld

  • Luise Rainer: the best actress of Century XX!

  • Greta Garbo should have won.

  • @BitchErica1 Agreed!

  • A truly brilliant actress, although I personally would have given this particular award to Greta Garbo for her amazing performance in Camille. That being said, I would rather Luise Rainer won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar over Alice Brady for this performance

  • Supporting? I think you're confusing her two Oscar wins, because her Good Earth was a lead, and her Great Ziegfeld win could be classified as being supporting.

  • @TheSuppActress I know it was classed lead, I just personally felt that it should have been more supporting as she didn't have that much screen time and very little dialogue.

  • Luise Rainer still mesmerizing as an actress and as a person, 100 and still going strong.

  • She looks a little bit like Meryl Streep :)

    Great win!

  • Too stiff for me. You should do this year soon! And 1936 as well!
