  • In Phoenix Wright, there's a character named Godot who states he "never was there when my poor Mia has been murdered".

  • I know Beckett hated when ppl tried 2 interpret this work, but isn't that why playwrights CREATE these works?? So they can be internalized -- what is the point of watching them if you cannot analyze them also? There is CLEARLY a purpose and identity to this Godot character, and Beckett didn't like for anyone to try to figure it out? In my mind, Godot represents God. For me, it's a perfect interpretation, and since SB has never said WHO he is, I am happy w/ my personal interpretation. It fits

  • @SomethingReal1119

I concur completely with your interpretation that Godot is God. The Hobos who are waiting for Him with expectations of how Godot will change their lives parallels the 12 Step program when an alcoholic "came to believe a power greater then myself, could restore me to sanity".

  • @SomethingReal1119 Samual Beckett said expicitly that Godot isn't God. He isn't saying that you can't interpret it or try to figure it out just that your interpretation is wrong.

  • they can plan a suicide but they can't think of dropping Godot........... Godot doesn't mind their hanging themselves but he sure minds their stop waiting for him....... it's unsupportable!!!!!!!!!

  • how alone we are, forget politeness in the face of wonder without joy. How is your brother. ?

  • theater of absurd ---- absurd indeed!

  • Amazing play !!!!!!!

  • I always felt that these guys were waiting for death, for they are dead already. They are ghost, and as ghost they go through the same stuff each day.

    But that's just me.

  • @DrClay999 we are all that way, are we not? at the worse of it any way.

  • i've the entire filmed version uploaded, if anyone wants to see it. :]

  • to me the tale is one of the futility of life. The endless horror and inescapable pointlessness of it all. In seeing the horror of it I see the comedy. Just my take

  • @tkhushrenada the burden of Humanity can be a stale tale. Still i enjoy hearing it as this.

  • Barry McGovern plays Vladimir in this filmed version, and the boy messenger is played by Sam McGovern, his son. It's quite interesting to see the interaction between them in this version, keeping that relationship in mind. Kinda meta. It adds a new dimension to Vladimir's line 'Approach, my child' towards the end of Act 1, I thought.

  • Me and my friend alm

    ost cried, thank you!

  • Love this play... Such a sense of dispair which is felt by all of us as people. I think it's a fabulous metaphor.

  • It is one of the best videos i have seen until now here in youtube...Thanks very very much for the upload...

  • In my humble opinion 'Mr Godot' is not God but waiting for him; 'Mr Godot' is akin to waiting for 'a' God who does nothing as humankind equally does in the scheme of all things..nothing...'shall we go?..'Yes let's go'. The tree, the light to dark in moon arising, the ground underfoot says nothing, never will enoughs been said already and for eternity-the snapping of the belt, lives saved cast into waiting for tomorrow's Godot, always there from the very start.

  • @NyashaMe.... The boy is playing the part of the hesitant, slightly nervous bearer of unwanted news perfectly ......you leaden brained dunce.

  • @NyashaMe The lines for 'the boy' don't leave much room for dramatic interpretation.

  • @michaeijd i am not always a fan of dramatic interpretation. When the words say enough.

  • When was this movie made and who plays the characters? We watched this in class but I never got to see the credits:(

  • I read this play in my literature class and loved it!

  • Vladimir: a tragic character if I've ever seen one.

  • Godot is not God , there is a theory i studied in college , Godot = go do it .

and there is another one that says Godo is a symbole for the savior notion for all the deffierent cultuers ....

  • I hate all the people who think Godot is God! Beckett himself said that if he meant God he would of said God! Godot is not God!

  • where i can watch the full play?

  • @grungyto The entirety of the play is, to the best of my knowledge, availably directly to the right of your screen.

  • The play is about confidence in one's choices ,freedom, and relationships.

  • "I am a purchased slave, my name is Lucky.

I have sold myself in the shop for God's word; where He placed me, there am I placed.

    What cleverness hath Thy slave?

He cannot obey the Lord's order,

My mother was a slave, my father a slave, I was born a

    slave."

Thats a quote from a sikh text. hmm

  • @chewymatty1 Well researched!

  • love this play.

Whole things feels like a metaphor for life as a human

  • @tobs001 .....and did you think of that all by yourself Tobby...?

Sure it must be passing marvellous to have a brain like yours.

I'll pass your gem on to all of the metropolitan critics so that they can revise their opinions as I'm sure they all thought it was just a daft tale of four hobos.........thanks again you genius

  • @Hutch41 No the heavens cracked open and a magnificent ray of light descended upon me. When i looked up in awe a booming voice said "REMEMBER THESE WORDS!! For the are the TRUTH of the world!! WFG is a metaphor for LIFE!!!! And mayonnaise tastes terrible on everything!!!! Go forth and spread my word for I am a spokesperson of PETA!!!" Thanks for the sarcasm jack....

And a large # of people did think it was a daft tale about 4 hobos originally. But youre so smart you probably already knew that.

  • @tobs001..... Me !........Smart !........no no .... not me Mister Toblerone sir. We groundlings all thought the play was a propaganda piece commissioned by Shelter. So thanks for putting us right .

Now let's have another gout of randomly capitalised, irrelevant quotations from you to dazzle the dingbats and keep us all on our toes

  • @Hutch41 What exactly was ironic? That I posted something I thought? I never claimed I was smarter than anyone or that I was making incredible revelations. Whats with all this unwarranted hostility?!?

  • @tobs001 PS.....it wasn't sarcasm.....it was irony.

  • Given the play was originally written in French with the same name for Godot, the idea that Godot = God is a little misleading. Of course, there are many possible interpretations of the play. That's why it's my favourite.

  • "If by Godot I had meant God I would have said God, and not Godot." S. Beckett

  • @alexandropoulosalex

well there goes all my theories on this play

  • all absurd plays have many possible interpretations.

but waiting for godot is great :)

  • If you read the the title waiting for GODOT and take the last two letters out and it is spelled GOD.....hmm makes u think doesnt it, that they have been waiting for sumone to show up that doesnt even live in the world but everywhere I suppose think of it ?

  • this is play is about waiting for god to come and save us.

its a really good play to act out and to read

  • hmm... Funny, Beckett himself implied that Godot isn't God.

  • i think Godot is a pretty cool guy. eh never shows up and doesnt afraid of anything

  • A speck in the void.

    Absolute!

    Thanks for sharing it.

    Big hug

  • Godot's such a cunt

  • so, there is no goddot?

  • Godot does exist, however, he never comes to meet Valdimir and Estergon. They wait in vein.

  • fck godot.

  • we are all waiting for Godot!

  • No - McKellern & Stewart were not as good as this production. They created too many laughs! ! There is really nothing to compare with this - it was marvellous!

  • The only thing to compare this with is the Gate theatre production, with the same cast as here (bar the Boy, they age fast!). Recognised by critics and audienes alike as the Definitive Godot.

  • che meraviglia

  • è difficile trovare altro che possa essere espresso dopo questo....

  • Possibly the greatest comment on human condition of the previous century.

  • True it could well be the greatest...

  • Bravo!

  • brava!
