There is also a German proverb which goes like that: "Der Apfel fällt nicht weit vom Stamm" which translates to "The apple does not fall far from the tree" (which means, an apple is always close to its trunk). It means e.g. that a child is just like its parents :]
@thedarkpoet26 Ermm...atm I don't remember which song(s) he played on the piano (and I'm too lazy to look for it now OTL) but I do remember that I heard "Nocturne Opus 9 No. 2" by Chopin sometimes while watching the Anime (or maybe my mind is just playing tricks on me, haha~) :'D

I've never had a problem understanding Austrian German, altough we learn German-German in the school. There are some tricky words, like Marille, Zwetschken or Erdäpfel instead of Aprikose, Pflaume and Kartoffeln, and sometimes they pronounce stuff differently, but IRL it's not a big deal, with a tiny bit of fantasy it's easy to catch. Not to mention that they don't spell differently. Unlike the Swiss.
Love Austria, it's a beautiful country. :3 Greetings from Hungary! :D <3
That's right (I'm from austria) Let's take the sentence "I like this song really much". In germany you would say: "Ich mag dieses Lied sehr gerne" In austria you would say: " I mog des Liard ur gern!" But every austrian understand the germany german perfektly. So it's no problem learning german and go to Austria... you won't understand the austrian people thougth... but they will understand you xDD
Hmm... When I think about it, I'm kinda like Austria... I play the piano, I have glasses, I love music, and I kinda have the same personality... Ohonhon, how scary xD

skadi, I know you speak German, and I was wondering, how different is Austrian-German from Germany-German? Is it very different like Swiss or just a dialect that a native German speaker could understand without problem?
@aurielMoon You could compare it with English you speak in the UK and in the USA :]
Usually Austrians and Germans understand eachother very good (also, if you study German in school you usually study Germany-German but you won't have a problem to communicate with Austrians too). Swiss are difficult to understand because their accents are SO hard...but they don't have a problem to understand Germans or Austrians~
All German native speakers understand eachother unless they have heavy accents XD
@aurielMoon Hello my friend!^^ I'm from Austria and I have to say, even in Austria we have different dialects. I'm from Vienna and I speak a different dialect than people from Carinthia or Lower Austria.
@aurielMoon my professor for ww1 and ww2 history is german he says the austrians drop their "R"s differently. he used hitlers german as an example since he was austrian.
@kaindrg Yes, but I think that's not such a good example because his speaking was kinda weird :-/
But you could watch e.g. "Inglorious Basterds" and listen how Hans Landa (played by Christoph Waltz, an Austrian) speaks in comparison to the other German actors. Because when I watched the movie the first time it was clear to me that Mr. Waltz is from Austria, even he speaks (like all the other German actors) in High/Standard German :]
@kaindrg Yes, but that was Hitler's way to talk, Austrians usually don't roll the "R" --that-- much (at least I don't know any Austrians who talks like that...) ^^'
@SkadiPirate i think back then regional dialects were more apparent then that are now since education largely makes it soo its easier to communicate the same words the same way. just like in america we have some interesting accents. just ask a bostoner to day "park the car in havard yard" for them it become "Pak the Ca' In Havad Yad"

@18dustyrose Yes, according to the legend, the flag was invented by Duke Leopold V of Austria as a consequence of his fighting during the Crusades. After a battle, his white battle dress was drenched in blood; when he removed his belt, the cloth underneath was untouched by it, revealing the combination of red-white-red. :]
About the Lativan flag: one legend refers to a wounded Latvian who was wounded in battle, and the edge of the white sheet in which he was wrapped were stained by his blood.
@256NatLiz or how creek in the north is pronounced Cr-ik as in the south its Cre-ek, or cement in the north is Ca-ment while in the south its Sea-ment and then in the north its called soda pop and in the south its just called Coke

I've been to Vienna, Austria. Such a beautiful place. I wish I could have stayed longer though because the places I went in Europe were amazing! Though I didn't see too much of the few countries I went to, what I did see was so much cooler than America. America can be amazing, but something as ancient as Europe(or any other old, old countries) are just pure win!
And no thanks to Hetalia, I now want to go to all the countries of the characters represented. Some I've already seen.
I'm planning on studying abroad in Austria in the next two years, and it's been really fun learning their dialect. I'm a native German-speaker, but I speak normal German, not Austrian German. Due to some problems in the family, we had to move to America, but I really do want to go to Austria for their language and their amazing music programs. I love this video, by the way. It;'s very well made, and helped me put an Austrian accent into my German. -three thumbs up!-
Mmm...while I don't like the vocals of the guy singing this and the background music...I really love the lyrics...XD Hmmm...but now you make me want to see if I can find other songs now. ^^
I am german, but i was never able to understand the little and similar country to the southeast of us but this song got added to my favs and opened up a window of apprecaiten to our very similar brother
I love what you've decided to do. Put each of the countries in a slideshow to a song of their own language. Really interesting. I wish they would do that for the Hetalia CD.
I went on a feild trip to Pittsburgh and we went into the Cathedral Of Learning and I was so hoping to into the Austrian room. We almost didn't ! But it was absolotely AMAZING! xD So elegant and fancy, If it had had a piano I so could have seen Roderich being in there playing lol.
btw. I'm thinking about uploading the REAL anthem, should I?

Though I didn't see too much of the few countries I went to, what I did see was so much cooler than America. America can be amazing, but something as ancient as Europe(or any other old, old countries) are just pure win!
And no thanks to Hetalia, I now want to go to all the countries of the characters represented. Some I've already seen.

@SolitaryWinterStar Let me save you the Canada trip. It's like America. Except colder, with more trees and less rednecks.
MrSlaide 11 months ago
@MrSlaide I'd still want to go ^-^
Because, it's funner to actually be there to see it than read about it. :D
SolitaryWinterStar 11 months ago
@SolitaryWinterStar Agreed... I just wanted to take a stab at rednecks.

At 1.28 the last word is supposed to be: haben~!
I love the video~!
woeffa 1 year ago
@woeffa He's singing in an Austrian German dialect, so "ham" is okay here. Though you're right, in standard German it would be "haben" :]

I love what you've decided to do. Put each of the countries in a slideshow to a song of their own language. Really interesting. I wish they would do that for the Hetalia CD.
totallyspytrue 1 year ago 7
great that you´ve changed the lyrics in austrian-german! but sometimes it´s still a bit too hochdeutsch.... in my opinion...
for example:
you wrote: "zieht noch den Hut vor dir?"
i would write: "ziagt nu den Huat voa dia?"

It's great that you write 'Austrian-German' because sometimes the pronounciation really is different :)
Ah~ Austria is such a cool character x3 (not my favorite, but almost xD)
