Spike Lee should do a film on Dr King; it needs to be done on a scale of his "Malcolm X" masterpiece. Cant understand why he hasnt yet.
Maybe Spike is waiting until after 2016 when the Obamas leave the White House- maybe the Hollywood Enfant Terrible is already writing their script. Hope he has the copyright: the Obamas Story will be the hottest property in Hollywood I have no doubt.
Your understanding of Malcolm X is limited. In this interview, as my description clearly states, he was expressing the views of Elijah Muhammad's Nation of Islam (NOI). If you haven't already done so, I would recommend that you read Malcolm X's autobiography or the collections of his post-NOI speeches, writings and interviews, which represent his own views.
@apmirkin True, but there were also many constants between Malcolm X's positions as a Nation of Islam and a Sunni Muslim minister, including his belief in "black" self-determination, a "United Black Front" and solidarity with "black" peoples around the world. I have the honor to remain
Malcolm subscribed himself to the very dangerous, racist philosophy that the "white man" utilized to oppress his people in the first place. MLK recognized "whites" and "blacks" were equal.
@finxoner Honey, you obviously don't know history then. The white man, everywhere, has oppressed whoever did not look like himself--even his own sisters. Malcolm recognized this, and armed himself against anymore oppression from the white man who had told our brothers and sisters that they were trash. MLK, while he was a good man, was deluded into thinking that we could put aside any differences and "reach" them with nonviolence. Malcolm was using his mind.
@finxoner Although, your comment is somewhat true... It should be noted that El-Hajj had a different perspective on people in general, after making his pilgrimage to Mecca.
@pauldarwinlee Today I just came across your comment asking people to post their insults somewhere else. I wish all the channel moderators were like you. These videos of the past great black leaders are priceless. And for anyone to post anti-black racist comments is a smear against Malcolm X's memory.I think it's terrible the way other moderators sit silent and let racists post views that angers blacks it leads to constant arguments and Malcolm X's message is forgotten
@wolof2000 Thank you. Ironically, I just deleted three racists comments! While I appreciate the Internet, I regret that it gives license for cowards who are afraid to identify themselves and, therefore, accept responsibility for their words, to vent their fear-based hatefulness. That's why I always sign my comments -- because I'm willing to stand behind them. Thanx again. I have the honor to be
While some free "black" people supported the founding of Liberian, which became a republic in 1847, most did not, recognizing that its "white" fathers were not the friends of "black" people. At any rate, Liberia's constitution and bill of rights were modeled after those of the U. S., thus the use of the term "Negro," which was the popular designation that "whites" imposed on "black" people at the time.
Liberia, the name of which is taken from the word "liberty," was founded in 1820 by the American Colonization Society, which was a peculiar combination of "white" philanthropists, slave-owners and politicians, including President James Monroe. The capital of the colony, Monrovia, was named after the latter. Among Liberia's original purposes were the removal from the U. S. of the troublesome agitation of free "black" people and the burdensome presence of uncontrollable enslaved "blacks" people.
I love history and cherish those that lived before me. That being said, I have been doing work in West Africa and have come upon a very interesting find. This is NOT a joke and I stumbled upon it....Liberian documents state that "no one can become a citizen of Liberia unless they are a negro or of negro decent" Um...that kind of puts Mr. X's views as off, not worthy. So, was it Liberians that took Negro from the US or was the phrase always there?
