If they're only out of the water for a few seconds, there's no need to wave water into its gills. And bass and bream are hardy fish. Throwing them won't do them harm. however, with larger fish, such as pike, throwing is generally a bad idea. Unless you'd prefer them biting your hand off.

I love it! Went out for bluegills in the rain today. Also a pen rod extreme fanatic. Bluegill fishing is something I do after a good day chasing bass or carp. Kind of 'unwinds" me, takes the tension off and reminds me that just catching fish is fun. Plus, if you are a backwoods heathen - bluegills are great eating. Got some in the freezer now.......... And I got my first shiner today on a mealworm. Just need a shad and an eel to complete my list....

It depends.

If your really low on bait then I would set the hook when it was nibbling because it has less of a chance to steal your bait and you get to fish longer. However you have more of a chance of missing with nibbiling.
