Johnny Cash was my dads favorite musician. He used to play these songs for me, sing them with me, he was my best friend and the only person to ever really understand how my head worked. He died when I was 16. It has been 4 years, that circle remains strong. Thanks for making me bawwww youtube.
i love this song.but it makes me think of my mom she did everything for me since me dad cheated on her when i was 8.i still love the man but its mostly pitty.all i can hope for is that i am a better man than him
I'm listening to this because my grandmother passed away Saturday, October 29th. Her and grandpa had an 8 track of Johhny Cash and June Carter Cash singing a bunch of Christian songs. I have memories of being at their place and hearing this song on a Sunday morning.
my mom is 85 ears old . she's on borrowed time . i'll miss her so when she goes to god and family . she introduced me to god and country music thank god and mom for giving me life and values
I love this song. Grandma Katie (RIP Aug 23, 1919-Aug 19,2010) always sang this to me. My best friend, my everything. I know she wanted me to keep the family together, keep the circle unbroken.
I'm not even remotely christian but this was my great grandmothers favorite song before she passed away. it was the song we played at her funeral.I miss her every day that goes by she was the most amazing woman I knew.
This was played at my mamaw's funeral, back in September. She was my best friend.I miss her so much, every single day. But,hopefully,Ill get to see her again one day :)
my father was listening to this crying because it reminds us of his mother that passed away 2 years ago. i was 10, and let me tell u, i was a wreck! her birthday is coming up 2. luv u gram :*)
I live near the Carter Family Fold in Hilton, Virginia and I was blessed to get to hear June Carter Cash sing this song. She did excellent. I miss her presence at the Fold.
A..P. Carter found and copyrighted this song in the mid twenty's. He was a traveling salesman that gathered up many such traditional folk songs then arranged them with the help of Maybelle Carter.
This is perhaps one of the most simple yet powerful American folk songs ever written.
@tnleggs59 and our atoms will mingle in the earth, feeding the trees and grass below our children s feet, and maybe whats left of me can hum this song.

Uh, this is Not Johnny Cash and June Carter. You should label your song COVER of their song.
wjhonson 1 year ago
@wjhonson...It's not "their song" either. Written in 1908. Pretty much every version of it you ever hear is a cover.

Love hearing Johnny on the chords. Best way to learn it is hearing this version, especially the first 30 seconds.
