The most homophobic people IMO are the ones who don't know anyone who is gay and so they have only their internal and highly ignorant idea of what gay people are like. Once they know and interact with someone personally, they almost always have less negative ideas about what it really means.

Just look at the studies regarding gays in the military. Soldiers who know and work with gay soldiers have minimal issues with it.

That is what the recent survey regarding DADT showed. The root of prejudice is ignorance. And i'm sure you assume the people you know/work with are straight, since 1 to 5% of the general pop is thought gay. That's why gay people need to be visible. If gay people don't come out, progress to achieve equal rights will take longer.

You accept the terms of your own free will, and if you violate them, you should expect to lost your job. It's no different than the private sector. You agree to abide by the terms your employer sets out when hired, and if one of those clauses is no sexual contact, regardless of gender, and you do it anyway, IT IS YOUR FAULT.
