Gary Oldman is a tremendous actor, one of my favorites. I still like his role a Drexel the best haha, but he is good in just about everything including this. He even sort of hid the fact Keanu Reeves is terrible.
I really like the look this movie had. The musical score is good too, like when Lucy returned to her grave with that baby and they were waiting to kill her, real creepy shit.
@Juggernaut76 Bela Lugosi is the one, true, Vampire of cinema. The only one who ever came close to matching his talented performance was Gary Oldman. I love this film too. It was a real departure from Francis Ford Coppola's usual formula. It showed the internal struggles of all the characters through amazing visualization and cinematography.
This type of Vampire flick I will watch. Bringing Vampire's into a modern world is a little blah for my taste. The only exception is Hellsing.
This movie blows twilight out of the water.. hell, twilight isn't even a vampire movie and anyone thinking it is, should be draged out into the street and slaped like a little bitch...
@spyrothedragon590 It is a good movie, for the most part because it is scary, as Dracula is. Although it slightly differs from the novel in parts. I don't want to spoil too much, but in the novel, Mina vows to destroy Dracula before she gives into the curse, in this movie, well she feels a little different... and this is where I did not like it. It's still worth watching because Oldman and Hopkins played their characters so well. The orinigal with Lugosi is still the best.
@JurassicJeremyJames@spyrothedragon590 I just finished reading the novel today. It's excellent. I just finished the Bela Lugosi film minutes ago. I'm not a fan of this movie. It was cut up awkwardly and nothing was explained. Coppola's film was much better I thought, but I hate that it's referred to as Bram Stoker's Dracula. It should be Coppola's 'Dracula,' kind of like Kubricks 'The Shinning.'
@TheCivilJerk Definitely a great book! I'm reading the sequel now! As for the 1931, I think I praised it because it fit the character of Dracula as a creature of the night, rather than Coppola's misunderstood, horny vampire LOL I do think the 1992 film was (in most cases) closer to the book and that's why I like it more plot-wise. But once they made Mina a whore, I hated it in that aspect, but just that. Both films have their ups and downs, and are great though in their own ways. :)
My complaint about this film is the romance between Count Dracula and Mina. In this movie, he is seen as a tragic soul, but in the original novel, Dracula is described as PURE EVIL! in the book, Dracula forces Mina to bend over, and starts sucking the blood off her night gown whether she liked it or not. This was entirely out of revenge on the hunters who vow to destroy him. There's nothing wrong about this, but just like to point it out.
@killer92173 Exactly! If this movie didn't emphasize on the sexual-romance aspect of Dracula and not made Mina a whore (pardon my French), this would have been perfect. The movie was still good though despite that. Van Helsing was the best in this movie. The movie looked really creepy too, as a Dracula movie should be! I am curious if they will do a remake of Dracula in the future. Kind of like giving the "modern vampire" generation a history lesson LOL
@JurassicJeremyJames Another thing to point out is in the novel when Jonathan first meets Dracula at the beginning, Dracula is cloaked all in black. In here, he's cloaked in red, which to me isn't very fitting. If I was the director, I might have chosen Christopher Lee to play the older version of Dracula. Not a major complaint here, but something to point out. IMO.
@KnightZ1987 Did you find out the name of the track used in the end credits of this video? I've been wanting it as well since this movie was released.
Why the fuck does everyone bring up Stephie Meyer on every single vampire-related movie and video? This is DRACULA. You don't have to mention Twilight at all. Just watch this trailer, which contains a totally awesome and old-school and real vampire, and forget Twilight even exists.
To be honest, I though wasn't going to like this movie, hugely because of how sympathetic this "Dracula" was, but after watching it on Fear.net On Demand, I really dug this film. Visually and emotionally rich. Gary Oldman was sensational as "Dracula" and Winona Ryder was good as "Mina". 3 1/2 Stars out of 4.
@prostsinteu i live in romania too. it's a movie about vampires, remember? of course this didn't hapen. it's my favourite movie so stop saying shits about it. use your energy in other ways.
@prostsinteu This isn't about history. This is about a compilation of legend, myth, superstitions, mysticism and psychological truths. . reflecting something of the inner nature . . . of things . . . !
@PaulaLlombart actually twilight was a different take on vampires and werewolves cuz there are other takes that follow the whole cant walk in day like the underworld series and the more subtle can walk in the day but you dont know i am not human like twilight
@gabbagabon Adding "Bram Stroker's" to the title misled some into thinking it meant a faithful adaptation when in fact they added the author's name because they needed to distinguish their film from another.
Interesting how the trailer shows scenes (different angles of shots) that weren't in the final movie :) Now if only Coppola could clean up the workprint and release it!
I thought this movie would be better, but tons of special effects and too much of dramatic music destroyed it. It was rather funny than scary. I really tried to like it but i couldnt.

At 0:54 is that a deleted scene? I don't remember that scene wich is Dracula outside the window throwing Arthur Holmwood seated in a chair, only with his had like magic. What do you say?
To be fair, movies have to make some changes when adapting from a novel (especially one like Dracula who's been exploited countless times), but Lee was right save for the 1977 version which is almost entirely accurate. However this one changed the whole point and theme! Visually it's great and Oldman, Waits, and the Brides are good, but it's love story is awful and the rest of the cast is bad. What other versions lacked in accuracy, they at least kept the central theme.
@balrog13571 My point is how exciting, dark and chilling is Stoker's writing. No movie can reach the atmosphere of horror that gives the reading of this masterpiece.Besides that i totally agree with you about the Dracula movies
Yeah that's true. I think the movies did about as much as could do with the budget and technical resources they had. Usually they get at least one thing right and it depends on what your looking for specifically. Nosferatu,Dracula,Horror of Dracula, etc had nice atmosphere even if they couldn't tell the whole story, The 1970 one got the character down, 1977's BBC one got the narrative and the rest of the characters down pretty well, and this... well it looked nice.
totally playing castlevania: sotn tonight, afterwards I will proceed to to get drunk and watch this great movie...fuck april fools day...i'm goin full dracula today lol
why were the lines "There is a sinister, darker sideto him that I find irresistible; I have never met any man with such a passion for life" and "The power of his evil desire has no end" and the scene where Van Helsing says "Make no mistake: he must be stopped" cut from the film?
@goliathlup1 My Friend I don't know what u know so much about Dracula and dramatized yourself as the all known guy.But have u really read Bram Stoker's Dracula. The Novel Pisses the Twilight off ur tiny imagination.
I don't know why people keep loving such idiotic and senseless movies nowadays.
@goliathlup1 Vampires have always been sexual monsters. From the moment Carmella was written in the 1870s all the way to the present, there is an underlying seductiveness about them even in this film. Need I also point out, Carmella was a metaphor for a dominant lesbian confusing and deflowering young women. Ergo, they have always been gay.
But there is 'I seduce and drain the blood of my same gendered victims' gay and there is 'I sparkle in sunlight gay'. The distinction is important
@VriskaSerket Thank you. I just found your response after I replied. Thank you. I also added about general campness about the male aristocrat vampire set up. Not to confuse that with being gay, but people who fall for using gay in insulting terms don't usually distinguish.
@goliathlup1 Not saying gay and camp are synonymous, but Dracula has always been a slightly camp character. Although Twlight vampires aren't gay as in homosexual. And if we want to talk about that there are plenty of lesbian vampires throughout the years. I really am not a person for Twilight either, I haven't even bothered to read the books or watch the films. But I'm not going to bring up insults on false ideas. The mary sue characters are enough. Not going to make gay as an insult.
@goliathlup1 way I see it shit like this is stereotypical embarrassing cliche vampire bullshit and Twilight made vampires cool again, just like vampire diaries and true blood. THIS however is a fucking JOKE
@goliathlup1 ..yes, but this movie is great! and gary oldman is an excellent, evil, and - at the same time - fragile vampire..........a real vampire...I think it's strange that, in twilight saga, we cant' never see a vampire acting like a vampire..I mean...sucking blood, killing people etc etc..
@PLATOON72 Why? Just because you don't understand what i'm saying that doesn"t mean i'm wrong. It makes sense... and i know what i'm talking about because i've studied philosophy.
@EssentielInvisible you've studied without applicating it with yout mind: how the hell could you associate the love with the desire of death?? They are antithesis.
@PLATOON72 No... Well Hate is the opposite of love but they can be the same...
A lot of people experienced it. And Thanatos doesn't mean just "desire of death"" in ancient greek. I'm not supposed to speak with you. YOU don't even have arguments to defend your opinion. You just say "they are antithesis" and you are glad. And you started this boring conversation in the first place. Ok whatever have a nice day, i'm not going to be as rude as you are.
Yeah, because love is synonim of life, and the desire of death is surely the opposite. When you are in love with someone, and you are corresponded, you breathe life, when you are making love with someone, you're breathing live, that's why I've told that is the antithesis.
Sorry, but the only person that sounded rude here was you. I don't see where I was even just a few rude here...
@PLATOON72 Yeah ok, very good argument i must say. You see i can agree with your opinion. Now i"ll explain. This love you are talking about can easily transform into hate (and you shouldn't understand desire of death litterally), its opposite and at the same time its equal. When somebody hurts for example, betrays you
And the feeling called "love" has darker parts. It is not only pink butterflies. It's more complex. So what i was trying to say it's that you can feel 2 atithetical feelings in 1
1:20 Emperor Palpatine. LOL.

@ADSCP
That scene isn't in the final movie. In the final movie it shows him snarling not putting his hand onto the window, from memory.

@sturmgewehr44athens
What other versions lacked in accuracy, they at least kept the central theme.
balrog13571 8 months ago
@balrog13571 My point is how exciting, dark and chilling is Stoker's writing. No movie can reach the atmosphere of horror that gives the reading of this masterpiece.Besides that i totally agree with you about the Dracula movies
sturmgewehr44athens 6 months ago
@sturmgewehr44athens
Yeah that's true. I think the movies did about as much as could do with the budget and technical resources they had. Usually they get at least one thing right and it depends on what your looking for specifically. Nosferatu,Dracula,Horror of Dracula, etc had nice atmosphere even if they couldn't tell the whole story, The 1970 one got the character down, 1977's BBC one got the narrative and the rest of the characters down pretty well, and this... well it looked nice.

why were the lines "There is a sinister, darker sideto him that I find irresistible; I have never met any man with such a passion for life" and "The power of his evil desire has no end" and the scene where Van Helsing says "Make no mistake: he must be stopped" cut from the film?
BibleJoker2Face 10 months ago
@BibleJoker2Face
Not sure, though soooo many scenes and dialogue were cut from the final movie to cut down final screen time. It sucks :(

Vampires have become so gay! They were badass for 100 years and twilight managed to singlehandidly make them into chick flicks .

TheNehailu 6 months ago

Not to confuse that with being gay, but people who fall for using gay in insulting terms don't usually distinguish.
jeneshisugakuto 4 months ago
@goliathlup1 Not saying gay and camp are synonymous, but Dracula has always been a slightly camp character. Although Twlight vampires aren't gay as in homosexual. And if we want to talk about that there are plenty of lesbian vampires throughout the years. I really am not a person for Twilight either, I haven't even bothered to read the books or watch the films. But I'm not going to bring up insults on false ideas. The mary sue characters are enough. Not going to make gay as an insult.
jeneshisugakuto 4 months ago
@goliathlup1 way I see it shit like this is stereotypical embarrassing cliche vampire bullshit and Twilight made vampires cool again, just like vampire diaries and true blood. THIS however is a fucking JOKE
DanRKO815 4 months ago
@goliathlup1 ..yes, but this movie is great! and gary oldman is an excellent, evil, and - at the same time - fragile vampire..........a real vampire...I think it's strange that, in twilight saga, we cant' never see a vampire acting like a vampire..I mean...sucking blood, killing people etc etc..

this is a great movie, philosophical.... mix between Eros (god of love) and Thanatos (desire of death) and the ambiguity of this feeling...
EssentielInvisible 1 year ago
@EssentielInvisible you have the ideas very confused, pal.
PLATOON72 11 months ago
@PLATOON72 Why? Just because you don't understand what i'm saying that doesn"t mean i'm wrong. It makes sense... and i know what i'm talking about because i've studied philosophy.
EssentielInvisible 11 months ago
@EssentielInvisible you've studied without applicating it with yout mind: how the hell could you associate the love with the desire of death?? They are antithesis.
PLATOON72 11 months ago
@PLATOON72 No... Well Hate is the opposite of love but they can be the same...
A lot of people experienced it. And Thanatos doesn't mean just "desire of death"" in ancient greek. I'm not supposed to speak with you. YOU don't even have arguments to defend your opinion. You just say "they are antithesis" and you are glad. And you started this boring conversation in the first place. Ok whatever have a nice day, i'm not going to be as rude as you are.
EssentielInvisible 11 months ago
Yeah, because love is synonim of life, and the desire of death is surely the opposite. When you are in love with someone, and you are corresponded, you breathe life, when you are making love with someone, you're breathing live, that's why I've told that is the antithesis.
Sorry, but the only person that sounded rude here was you. I don't see where I was even just a few rude here...
PLATOON72 11 months ago
@PLATOON72 Yeah ok, very good argument i must say. You see i can agree with your opinion. Now i"ll explain. This love you are talking about can easily transform into hate (and you shouldn't understand desire of death litterally), its opposite and at the same time its equal. When somebody hurts for example, betrays you
And the feeling called "love" has darker parts. It is not only pink butterflies. It's more complex. So what i was trying to say it's that you can feel 2 atithetical feelings in 1
EssentielInvisible 11 months ago
@PLATOON72 Oh and you were rude when you said "how the hell"...I'm not here to fight.
EssentielInvisible 11 months ago
Yes, because I really saw no liaisons between the two things. But m
