I have this CD. Whenever I listen to it, it takes me straight back to those old Rita Hayworth movies - and I think that's the spirit of the whole thing. Linda Ronstadt has no accent at all when singing in Spanish, and this is not what impresses me most, but the feelings she puts in her voice. There is nothing "fake" about it - Linda does have a Spanish soul. One million thumbs up.
Thing is she knows how to choose her musicians in any project she chooses as well....The guitarist in this album is absolutely superb...I mean I love my love's voice however I love her choice in musicians as well...Perfect...

Ciao.
This is so good. I don't think Linda was dressed appropriately for singing a sexy song like this. She looked more like a Nun!..........Still, it was great!!

@18seki . No she is NorthAmerican. As long as I know she use to live in Nogales, Arizona in the border with Mexico. She learned mexican music because his father liked it very much and heard a lot of Mexican music.

Respectfully ---couldn't be '76. I saw Ronstadt in concert in '76 and again about one year later. I don't wish to be disrespectful or rude but, in fact, she was quite a bit 'lighter' in the 70s. Nevertheless, Linda is always sexy and one of the great vocalists of all time.
Beautiful song! Great Latin feel of the late '30's- I heard Artie Shaw heard this song while on vacation in Mexico in 1939 and jazzed it up, and it was a big hit in the states. Could someone send me the Spanish lyrics to this classic gem? Thank you- Patrick
Composer/arranger Alberto Dominguez was born in the Mexican state of Chiapas in 1913. In 1939, he composed two songs that went on to become standards of Latin jazz: "Frenesí," recorded by Pérez Prado who was from Cuba...

I am not convinced that this is actually Linda. Perhaps Maria Osmond with new teeth? The leg muscles are lacking. How big? Lee Grant big. They should look like Goldie Hawn's legs (Overboard) and Frida's left pinkie is crooked which she shares with Linda Rondstadt and Melanie Safdt and maybe Sally Fields. It mite be??? I am not convinced
THIS IS A GREAT ORQUESTRA SOUND THAT WAS POPULAR IN THE 1930-1940's throughout Mexico and South America! I think this song MIGHT have originated in Cuba like so many of the great orquestra (Big Band) songs... My DAD LOVED THIS SONG!
My friend,
I am sorry to correct you but this is not a Consuelo Velazquez's song. This song (lyric and music) was created by Alberto Dominguez, one of the most important composers from Chiapas, Mexico.
sanırım beni elştirten kişi ya hiç ergen olmamış ya da coooooooook mükemmel bi insanmışşda kimseye özenmemiş.ben şunu anlmıyorum herkesin aynı olmak zorunda olduğu bi yer deil bu dünya ama insanlar kısıtlamaya çalışıyolar herkes birinin doğrusuna göre yaşsaydı hayal gücü yartıcılık,sanat bi yana yaşama sevinci bile olmzdı..fikirlere ve hayatlara,geçmişlerimize ve cocukluğumuza saygı,beceremiyosanız KENDİNİZE ayna tutun zirakendinizde bulduğunuz kusurlardan başkalrına sıra gelmez böyle krkterde
Linda Ronstadt is an icon of a bygone era and for that she commands respect and awe. The fact is there is no one out there who can hold a candle to her but son, let's face it, she is 61 years old and no one at 61 sounds like they did at 35. Only the cream of the crop can still sell tickets at 61. The "B" listers end up down in Florida performing at the Red Buttons Auditorium at Century Village. Life can be cruel!
What happens at 1:52? 2:59? Look, it is a fact of life. Maria Callas lost her voice in her early 50's. People age and the parts wear out. It is sad but we can still listen to her studio recordings.
I think as we get older we savor the strength of our heritages in America, not the differences! We here in the South have Cherokee/Irish/Italian/German ancestry, so who is an American?
I have read that she always thought of herself as Mexican American.
I have this album. I love it. I don't speak a lick of Spanish, and I don't care. The album rocks (salsas?). She sings great. (Yes, at 61 she has lost a little something, but who hasn't. She is still my favorite.) The band is great. If you are a Linda fan, and don't have the album, you are missing out.
You are so right. I can't pick a favorite on this album because each one has its own flavor. If I had to choose one it would be En Mi Soledad. Awesome song, voice and accompaniment
Her studio recording of this song is far superior. Unfortunately, here her beautiful voice is starting to fade. Let's hope she just had a throat infection or something. She is and always will be a treasure.....
that studio recording is one of my most frequently played songs. what hurts is her appearance. . .just watched the 1978 movie "FM" - what a contrast. i'm no better - not criticising . i looked great in 78, and i look awful now. LR sounds as good as ever, though, good to know she's still got it.
I always liked linda, but I was amazed to hear her doing latin music. see that little guy with the cuatro sitting down to her left? that is the one and only cuatro master, my uncle....YOMO TORO.....kick ass Yomo!

Brains, beauty (both inside & out) and unparalleled talent.
Since I first heard her in 1967, I’ve been a huge fan (and I must admit have had a secret crush on her like so many other men).
She has brought joy to many millions with her incomparable vocals, angelic voice and good deeds.
Johnnie Carson put it best, after hearing her sing, “When You Wish Upon a Star”, he said, “Now that’s real class!”
She is truly a national treasure.
Happy Birthday, Linda and best wishes for many more!

What am I missing, folks? I think she sounds delicious and looks delicious. If you don't have the album, GET IT. You'll never stop listening to it.

ANTRAXXX1862 3 years ago
Amigo, temo corregirte.
My friend,
I am sorry to correct you but this is not a Consuelo Velazquez's song. This song (lyric and music) was created by Alberto Dominguez, one of the most important composers from Chiapas, Mexico.
Saludos,

Perfida is my favorite, though.

She is and always will be a treasure.....
charlotteamalie 4 years ago
that studio recording is one of my most frequently played songs. what hurts is her appearance. . .just watched the 1978 movie "FM" - what a contrast. i'm no better - not criticising . i looked great in 78, and i look awful now. LR sounds as good as ever, though, good to know she's still got it.

I have Eydie Gorme doing an up tempo version of this with a seriously good big band chart backing her. It's my favorite vocal recording!
Linda does a nice version too. :)
