  • this was quite common those days...

there are many examples of such weddings in eastern europe too.

  • Getting married by proxy wasn't actually all that uncommon at this time, the only reason this is funny or shocking is that 'we' can't imagine not being present at our own weddings.

  • @QueenIsabella18 Catholics still allow proxy weddings on VERY rare occasions.

  • @SuperPunitor My point exactly. :)

  • "Friend of the husband and somebody elses wife."

Does he get to sleep with the King's wife in behalf of the King?

  • The girl is very good. Check her out as Joan of Arc..

  • It was not unusual for a royal or noble to 'marry by proxy', that is, have someone stand in for them at the wedding.

  • @InnannasRainbow That´s what I was thinking

  • why doesn't she marry mat

  • you could do worse im a duke hes a king!!! lmfao

  • This is defo one of HH's best sketches!!!!!!!!

  • I can't get over the fact that lawry sounds SO much like my french teacher in this XD

  • whats the girls real name???

  • @iamhere4uanduonly her real name is alice lowe

  • Vaseofdryflowers strikes again. You know why your flowers are dead mate? You bored them to death! I'd want to die to if I was having to listen to the manure you spread!

    Horrible Histories is BRILLIANT.

  • I always cry at weddings!! lawl

  • "You could do worst, I am a duke."

    "He is the king."

"Oh yeah, yes I supposes he is."

    LOL love that pieces.

  • Who'd want to marry Lauri?

  • in fact... sort of... xD

  • I thought the icon was a cartoon for a second haha

  • It's the priest the guy that plays Death in the "Stupid Deaths" segment?

  • @mistresssaturn no ur thinking of simon... the priest is larry!

  • The preacher looks like a pirate

  • I get the impression Larry said he was crying at the end more due to the fact he was stifling a case of the giggles. xD

  • Hahahahahahahaha lol ..... That better not happen at my wedding

  • that man at the end looks like hes laughing not crying

  • lawfully wedded wafe

  • Such a behavior was not so uncommon in history as you might think.

  • I now pronounce you friend of the husband and somebody else's wife.

  • Who wouldnt want to marry her? She is absolutely beautiful

  • " you look beautiful"

"why thank you!," (pulls back veil) "who are you?!"

  • She is a very pretty actress

  • I know pronounce you friend of the husband and... somebody else's wife

  • I'm so sorry, I always cry at weddings :) lol

  • I like how the bride is wearing blue to the wedding - white only became popular as a colour after Victoria's reign. Love the little touches ^___^

  • Love her wedding dress. Gotta have one of those when I get married :)

  • lol

I now pronounce you frond of the 'usband and somebody else's waife.

  • thats oliver cromwell

  • Actually most royal marriages were performed by proxy at this time. A princess wasn't sent out of her country except as the legal wife of the ruler she was arranged to marry. They would have a more formal wedding once in her husband's country.

  • I believe weddings by proxy were common a few hundred years ago. Particularly for royalty.

  • loool!

  • LULZ

  • Awhh Larry :') I'm so sorry i always cry at weddings...

  • lol you may now kiss the other fellow's bride

  • Larry's face at 0:29

  • WOW this may be true, but it is funny LLS

  • She has really nice eyes.

  • This would be a nightmare considering that, as a woman, your wedding defined your entire life. If I were in her shoes I'd be afraid of the legal limbo this ceremony might put me in... Particularly when you consider Charles' predecessor Henry VIII and how he tried to use all sorts of legal and religious loopholes to get out of *his* marriages... No wonder she was so upset!

  • @GeishaShattori I can defintely see your point. But the marriage itself, (at the time) was probably more treacherous for the King. A protestant king marrying a catholic? After all the debacles with the Pope in past century? Tricky and delicate situation. Though, I think with the restoration of the Monarchy, it defined a more liberal time for marriages, considering Charles II's many "interests".

  • @Lieblingsfachful This was the wedding of Charles the Ist, right?

  • @GeishaShattori

um actually it was quite common for royal marriages to occur by proxy before the real ceremony later on...

  • @GeishaShattori If I think of the legal difficulties that my own wedding involved (three countries involved, different legal systems, etc.) and the creativity needed to bypass some of the problems of the process. I believe a "stand in" wedding can't really add so much more to the trouble there is already.

On the other hand: I wouldn't even trust my best friend enough for this procedure. LOL! :-)

  • @GeishaShattori

Actually Charles was quite devoutly loyal to his wife...odd as it may seem.

  • @GeishaShattori ve quiet woman....you argue as if females had any rights during this age

  • @GeishaShattori

Charles was a Studart a descendant of the Scottish throne and King James II of England and VI of Scotland. The Tudors died out with Elizabeth I so I don't think Charles was directly related to Henry but I can see where your coming from, disrespectful to the bride not even showing up to the wedding

  • love that lady's french accent!

  • I always cry at weddings xD!!!

  • big silly cake! xx

  • yeah king Charles the 1st couldnt be at her brides wedding cause he is a Catholic.

  • @dim432 - No, she was Catholic. He was Protestant.

  • @dim432 she was Catholic. He was supposed to be a Protestant (But did a lot of Catholic things), so marrying her in a catholic style wedding would get him in trouble with people.
