That actually sounds pretty good and nice fix. Little muddy on the kick drum bass. Foam rot is common in these speakers. You could re foam them or just use the tape as it does work.

too bad that music was coming from a DIFFERENT speaker. with the surround missing like that it will not put out that kind of bass. you can use MORE tape and make a brand new surround though. masking tape actually works best for this, make 2 layers, and super glue the edges to the cone and to the frame of the speaker.

nice job thumbs up for the cheap fix. u know new foams are like 10/set though itd be best to invest in a set if you wanna keep the woofer. i got a nice 1974(according to EIA code) ALNICO boxes that ill be refoaming and 1 fisher made atlantis(other is already done) in my storage i think they all are 12s and 2 5.25 inchers in an infinity s-10 set.:)

i got picture proof of it working on a $35 8" AIWA sub that 1/4th of the styrofoam surround. works just fine now. i gave it to the rents and hooked it up to their TV. considering they don't push it anywhere near hard or anything, it's holding up just fine :)

well actually i did play it plenty hard before giving it to them and it was fine. but it's only an 8" AIWA 45W sub, so it can only do so much, and since i repaired it with DT it's not like i could get the $30 back that i paid for it. so it went to a good cause :-)

dad's glad he doesn't have to turn up the TV alot anymore for the explosions to sound awesome.

but ya, the tape is sealed up enough that it sounds just fine.
