I have one for sale mint condition was stored for 30 years in living room right now with cases and foot pedal, rod for foot pedal and chains also has wood shipping containers real sweet, sounds just like the one above but our amp isn't as good, email me at kijijistjames@gmail.com if you would like to see pictures.
@novanine9 This piano has strings, just like a real piano. Not possible to transpose without retuning the entire piano. Now you could get a Big Briar / Moog Piano Bar to transmit MIDI and turn the piano's amp off.
@novanine9 No, the CP-80 does not have MIDI. However, there is also a CP-80M and CP-70M which do have MIDI outputs. Bob Moog made a product in the late 90's / early 00's called a Piano Bar which can be placed on top of a piano's keyboard and transmit MIDI.
that's a jewel.it has it's own personality, like the fender rhodes and wurli.hopefully the sound of these instruments are back in today's music.thanks for posting zibbybone
@KKOPPI Only difference between the 70 & 80 are the number of keys: 73 on the CP-70 and full 88 on the 80. The CP-70B also has balanced outputs like the CP-80 whereas the 70 only has unbalanced outs. The 70M and 80M also add MIDI OUTputs.
@thevideoresponsedude Not a "rip" of Super Mario RPG, "C.R.E.A.M." or Inspector Gadget. Any similarities are coincidental. Other than Inspector Gadget, I had not heard any of these songs before making this video.
Man this CP is in MINT condition- was it like that when you bought it or did you get it fixed up? I have a CP80 but the tolex is torn up and I want to get it redone.
@cb08abe My CP-80 is in good condition, but far from mint. There are a few Tolex rips, but nothing to be too concerned about. I have not had any work done to it.
Forgive me, I don't know much about these kind of electric pianos, but does this work more like a computerized piano, or is it more like an electric guitar where there are magnetic pickups that create sound the same way other electric instruments do?
@tf2whackyengineer From Wikipedia: Yamaha, Baldwin, Helpinstill and Kawai's electric pianos are actual grand or upright pianos with strings and hammers. The Helpinstill models have a traditional soundboard; the others have none, and are more akin to a solid-body electric guitar. On Yamaha, Baldwin and Kawai's pianos, the vibration of the strings is converted to an electrical signal by piezoelectric pickups under the bridge.
@shawno66 Not sure if there are any MIDI retrofit kits, but I do know that Big Briar (Bob Moog's company) made a device called Piano Bar that sits atop a piano keyboard to transmit MIDI. They were quite expensive and seldom show up on the used market. I wouldn't mind one myself.
I don't know, If it is in good quallity then a bit more expensive.
I know the popularity is getting up again withe these pianos so it gets harder to find one, and then the price gets higher, I can almost promise that in like 5 years these pianos are in between 2000-3500 dollars!
Fell in love with the CP70/80, when i heard it used by ex- 'Dream Theater' keyboardist 'Kevin Moore', on his solo project 'Chroma Key'.. Beautiful ambient sound
The CP-80 has full 88 key keyboard, whereas the CP-70 has either 73 or 76 (I forget how many). The CP-80 also has both unbalanced phone plugs and balanced XLR outs whereas only the CP-70B has balanced outs. The "M" models (both 70 & 80) add MIDI OUTs. Other than the number of keys and balanced outs, there is no difference except maybe a few pounds of weight.
The first 5 notes are similar to Inspector Gadget. I played it for my 15 year old son and he then played me the music from one of his Nintendo games (forgot which one). The 1st part (before the modulations) is exactly like the game's music.
I love the CP-80 sound. This one sounds like it's in great condition. Only thing about the hi-quality video was there was no sound but some noise in the right channel. Otherwise, nice sound and chord/scale ideas.
Be sure to check out the video with the JC-120 Jazz Chorus amp and be sure to add &fmt=18 for stereo sound. Thanks for the kind words. This CP-80 does sound pretty good. There's a couple notes than need to be tuned and the are some burns and chips on some keys and the usual torn Tolex in some spots. If you're ever in Arlington/GP, you should swing by.
do you mind if i use the first fiew cords from the start and just play around with different chords as i feel it would make a gr8 tech track of just chords played like that. i only ask as its your creation and to be polite as i tested it out on my piano and it sounded gr8.
Thanks for the kind words. If you think the piano sounds good in this video, check out my video using the Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus amp(be sure to add &fmt=18 at end of URL to hear in stereo).
My 14 year old son heard me play this piece I'm working on and then played me a song on a Nintendo video game - very similar. The chords of my piece are Dm, G & F
Can u give me the song name and maybe dowload?

I hope I'm not being too nosy, but how much did it cost? I want to look for one for myself and I want to know a ballpark figure to save up for.

A very popular piano with rock bands in the 80's. Nice looking one you have there.

can you semi tone transpose or is it limited to the physical boundaries or analog tines?

@zibbybone - thanks for the info...
so basically, you can use the cp80 as midi controller?
I am considering the cp 80 for live gigs with my band.

What chord are you playing at 1:11?
connersaltzer 1 year ago
@connersaltzer
Tha'ts clearly the sound of a major chord with the bass one tone higher than the chord fundamental note, in this case, a D with the bass in E
