Gosh, I get so jealous of my sisters sometimes. They got to really experience the 80s, 90s and they're only 30 somethings now. Great decades to be teens. The music, films, fashion, school years, gah! I was born in '88. Ya'll are so lucky, real talk. This song is like a time machine for me.
PORTIA GRIFFIN VOCALS ARE AN EXAMPLE OF GOOD VOCAL LYRICS,CONTROL, NOTES ARE TONES OF MINNIE RIPPERTON? IN THIS PARTICULAR SONG "GOODBYE"...........GREAT SONG FULL OF ACTION! "TURN THAT SUCKER OFF : ) G.I
@deeperthanmost1 They released a special edition DVD of the movie a few years back, and as a bonus, included a separate CD of the entire soundtrack, I've seen it at Best Buy, Borders, and a few other outlets, so there you go.
you it gets to me wen this song goes of and this song plays because with the beauty, soulful jazz and the heart felt energy in this song, if you are old enuff, it takes you back to the old fun days where you pretty much didnt have to worry about any of the stuff today. plus the unity and togetherness, AND THE LOVE BETWEEN BRUTHAS AND SISTAS. YA DIG, SHO NUFF.
Aww so many memories from this song. Clark Atlanta University campus, 1990, Freshman year, away from home for the first time. This song was definitely a part of the soundtrack of my life in those days! Good times.
"Nobody cried when we said goodbye. No reason why." I loved this song. I worked in a movie theater when this was playing so I heard this song a million times and it never go old.
I remember reading this song almost didn't make the soundtrack, but was forced on Spike to use as a part of the record labels (EMI) request to have one of their artist represented... I'm happy they did that. This song is in my top ten of all time favorites. Arrangement by Fisher, vocals by Portia, POAD, and lyrics by Raymond... great!
This song and movie makes me think of my college years at my HBCU!!! Glad I went to a HBCU!!! Great times. Pledging was the best and Hell at the same time!!!
This was spike lee's best movie awsome soundtrack this by far was the best song on the C.D. thanks for posting.I saw my Jr. ,Senior year all over again Northside high Class of 90.
@freakwilliams Wow I was 1yrs old lol but it's all good though. I think it's cool how a movie or song can take you to a good place in your life! Side note wanna give a shout out to all the Greeks!!! And to Spike Lee for making great movies! OO-OOP! : )
This song is the joint!!!! I loved it. I remember watching this movie in the theater out in the military town of Norfolk, VA, while I was a sailor stationed on the USS Coral Sea. That songs brings back all the great memories of my time as a young man in the military and in Norfolk, VA....thanks for posting it....
This is a beautiful song and its been apart of my collection since I purchased the soundtrack right after seeing the film. I love the vocals, arrangement, everything because it all comes together to create a timeless classic.
I'm sorry...I know it's pieces of a Dream, and Portia is a guess singer, but to me Mr. Fisher MADE this song....his string arrangement is beautiful....
I've been a fan of School Daze since it first came out in the 80's. This song is dedicated to my sister Tanya RIP who took me to see my first movie ...school Daze...
Portia Griffin, ure one helluva singer! Where r u???
This 1988 funk/jazz track is my favorite one from the School Daze soundtrack, the groove is all that, with the excellent musical arrangements, and the melodious, and soul laced vocals of Portia Griffin, simply quality 80's music, undeniably!!
i couldn't wait for the end of the movie either, to hear this song!!! that, and the one little acorn song... i haven't heard this in many years, and i remember all the words... i used to listen to this song all the time. the music/score is one of my favourite things about spike lee films.
I swear I listened to this song at least once every year during my HBCU experience. Great movie, great song, good times. *sigh* Portia Griffin's voice is a dream, I love the "jiggyness" of the sax @ 3:25, & the strings! My God the strings!
Not my fave Spike Joint, but - Some Amazing music on this soundtrack . . . Ummmmmmmmm - like THIS. Love this song - can listen to it all day long. Be Alone Tonight is another Great song from the soundtrack.
Spike always has wonderful soundtracks. His father is a musician. Thank you Spike Lee for your body of work.

It can read like a dime store novel
Filled up with tension and fear
First you get the romance, then there is trouble maybe tears
Still I loved you spite of distance of myself
I wanted to resolve this before I dealt with someone else......???
But there is nothing to say
We didn't know yesterday
We already said goodbye
Before we said hello
