  • @jflinn210 there is a mix of parts with guidelines and parts that were straight made up.

  • i still dont understnd..was the jazz part all improvised or was it music to it? i really wanna try and play it but i cant seem to understand if this was sheet music or improvised?

  • To put Eddie Daniels' skill in easily understood terms: Eddie Daniels played better than the Asian Pianist.

  • too bad about the three people who sneezed when they tried to click on the like button and hit the dislike button by accident :'(

  • @KlarinetUK I have to disagree. I think the beard is well groomed.

  • Rien à dire, la clarinette parfaite!

  • I would like to see Justine Bieber play this...No editing either

  • @youtube why bother with likes/dislikes...all it does is facilitate/enable the haters out there.....who in their right mind could dislike this piece. Do all of us a favour and get rid of that useless function. Best Regards =D

  • There is a CD with this on it but it's not available any more :-(

  • Great gig!

Anybody knows if there's a cd by Eddie Daniels with this track and others with similar mood, classical/jazz?

    Thanks a lot!

  • @gameexpert09 You can get it for free in sheetmusictrade. com i discovered this website some weeks ago and I just love it. The jazz improv that appears in the sheet is the original (it is still awesome) since Eddie makes some modifications in this vid. Nevertheless you can get the original soundtrack (coinciding with the sheet impr) in the cd "Breakthrough" by Eddie Daniels, easy to download ;)

  • I love the range on tonal colors he has.

  • Is it just me or is this talented person the next benny goodman, or has he passed. Excellent. Thank you for all of your talent.

  • I feel so impresed after watch it! is incredible!

Who is the composer of this pieces? I don't know.

  • He should have better shaved up....

  • He should have better shaved....

  • I need to know where I can get this for sheet music. Did he imrpov over those jazz chord changes

  • @austinwaynick

Good thing they had that classical there to clean up all the jazz.

  • Yes I agree. He is one of the few clarinetists who 'truly' managed to bridge the divide between classical and jazz styles of playing but, sadly, he came at a time when, as jazz instrument, the clarinet was going out of vogue. After the Goodman & Shaw Swing era zentith, it sadly never really took a hold in Bebop or beyond. It still seems to have taken an age for these amazing clips of Daniels virtuouso playing to find their way onto You Tube. Lets have some more please.

  • This is included the album "Breakthrough". I bought it many years ago.

He's also an outstanding sax player; especially alto. Never got the credit he deserves. This solo is markedly different from the one on the album; the mark of a true innovator.

  • What an amazing clarinet player!

  • Cutie piano player too

  • This is absolutely divine! Just came back from a sax quartett rehearsal, where we try to play it...and then we checked out eddie doing it....speechless!!!

  • In terms of technique, is Eddie Daniels considered to be the best clarinet player ever?

  • @ihateuutube One of the best. There are alot of great players out there.

  • I was like "Eddie Daniels" :) Then I was like "Orchestral music" :/ then he played and I was like "HOLY SHIT" XO

  • All really great musicians, regardless of instument or style can make it look easy...Daniels goes beyond...he looks likes the ideas just pour out of him and whatever he thinks, he immediately makes it come out of his horn...and enjoys every minute...come to think of it, that's probably exactly what happens!

  • I feel very lucky and honored to have played this piece with Eddie Daniels in 2005. To have such a great musician play with you at any time is amazing. I loved that during rehearsal with us each time the jazz solo section would be different. Sometimes I forgot to come in on my part because I was enjoying watching him so much.

  • I asked Eddie if he had ever worked with David Sanborn, and he replied "I taught him Flute".

    Eddie's great!!

  • The Pat Metheny of Clarinet; and then some. Briliant!!!

  • gotta love the eddie daniels characteristic smile at the end.

  • eddie is amazing!!!

  • semplicemente... genio!

  • the two people that disliked accidently missed the like button i bet.

  • eddie such a nice guy. i get lessons from him once in a while. my teacher (Lori Lovato, principal clarinet, Sante Fe Symphony) is currently studying with him.

  • hermosa melodia ----- = ) song

  • FAVOLOSO....SEMPLICEMENTE FAVOLOSO.......

  • É impressionante como ele transita entre o erudito e o jazz com total desenvoltura em ambos estilos!

  • This phenomenal!! Pure genius.

  • il est vachement fort...

    merci eddie!!!

  • che emozione

  • eddie you are the best ....:X:X

  • This just shows what a great instrument the clarinet can be in the right hands. In the wrong hands, it can be a weapon! I always knew of Eddie Daniels' abilities on jazz and classical clarinet, just hadn't really witnessed it until this clip. Outstanding.

  • dayum, good stuff...

  • @RyaZila24 This just demonstrates what a beautiful instrument the clarinet can be - in the right hands. In the wrong hands, it can be a weapon.

  • anyone knows what the name of that pice ? amaizing and the improvisation part :)

  • @itagoosh solfegetto and metamorphisis. First half is by CPE. Bach.

  • holy jesus hes good :O

  • fantastico

  • Fantastic

  • the best clarinet player...

    desde colombia,

    EXELENTE !!!

  • nice beard

  • This is out of this world. Fantastic. Eddie in THE prime of playing. Bravo....we are lucky to have him on Planet Earth!

  • @TedLane

a few weeks ago i played the bass guitar in our bigband at midwest and eddie daniels played with us :D

  • @TedLane Were... :( RIP Eddie Daniels...

  • @TedLane i accually saw him on my trip in pluto. quite a differet guy. he plays the electris bass. his skin is inside out too.

  • the first part of it is in frederick thurston passage studies book 2 for b-flat clarinet...i'm working on it rite now, but nowhere near that speed!! that's insane!!

  • this man is my idol!

  • Jodeeer!

  • Love this clip. Thanks for posting! Eddie really makes his clarinet sing in a way I can only dream of...

  • how do i get the music??

  • I want to play this!!!! It seems like so much fun...and I need to learn how to improvise over changes, I never learned how...

  • veramente staordinario!!!

  • es el amo

  • The best!

  • hmm, i bought the book, and the jazz section is completely different....wat the heck? it is not even slightly written the same....????? i want this version its so cool.....if you have the skill to play this....then please buy the book its fun to play....really really fun so buy it

  • thats cause this is a live version. The one in the book is off of his Breakthrough CD. If you dont have get it....now!!! lol. I can e-mail you a recording of this song if you want.

  • ya that would be awesome, but why does he play this one then??? during live its so much cooler than the stupid one in the book..

  • Thats cause that jazz section is improvised. You don't play the same solo during every concert. Trust me. The recording sounds alot better than this. At least I thing. And in my opinion this orchestra is ok as far as pros go. and the recording has a drums to give it that heavy jazz feel so you can really get into it. Listen to the studio recording. That transcript doesn't do eddie justice.

  • Hah, saw your comment after I posted mine...I agree! London Philharmonia is much better (of course, it is also a studio quality recording as compared to a live performance).

  • That might be because it's an improvised solo. The version in the book is probably either transcribed from Breakthrough or pretty basic to allow for improvisation.

  • it is transcribed from the cd. I think the London Philharmonia would have sounded better live as well.

  • Beutiful!

    Incrivél!

    Nice!

Is this arragment of Etore Satra?

  • Insuperabile pezzo !!! Bellissima musica !! Grande Eddie, solo Henghel Gualdi gli è superiore per il suono ma non per la tecnica !!! Grande musica !!! Mary Italy

  • *twitch, twitch* It's freaking beautiful, and his technique is out of this world!!!

  • I jus found someone to look up too... eddie daniels you're my idol!!!

  • i just jazzed in my pants

  • haha nice!!

  • @austinwaynick did you need a mop and bucket afterward to clean up?

  • @austinwaynick How is this dumbass comment rated the top comment here? Who is the dumbass who rates this stuff? I'm sure this comment will be rated low.

  • @austinwaynick : This is absolutely divine! Just came back from a sax quartett rehearsal, where we try to play it...and then we checked out eddie doing it....speechless!!!

  • que loco, Daniels simplemente el mejor....

  • Eddie Daniels= the second coming of Jesus

    haha

  • That's music !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BEAUTIFUL!!! And who is the babe playin' piano?

  • Hiroko Kokubu, according to the description, i don't know personally

  • NO WORDS..... [AMAAAAAAAZING]! o.O

  • someday ill be as good as him or better! thats my goal.

  • he is the best!!

  • Appreciate your comments about Eddie. Using any yardstick you want he is the best clarinet player ever.

  • Having worked with Eddie for many years in the recording industry, I can only say that, as a composer, one of my biggest decisions was whether to ask him to play clarinet, sax, or flute. His was an equal display of virtuosity on all of them, although he preferred clarinet. He was always my first call on any single reed or flute, and I rescheduled many recording sessions to fit his booking availability. This video is a perfect example of why.

  • many of you may not believe this but i went to eddie daniel's most recent concert at the jazz bakery in california and at the concert i was talking to eddie, and mentioned this piece and how well he played and he turned me around and said, by the way there is the man who made this wonderful arrangement. i was stunned, it was crazy

  • i am a 16 year band director specializing in woodwinds. eddie daniels is the clarinet world's 'tiger' or 'jordan'. just amazing.

his tone is so pure and liquidy.

thank you for putting this on youtube.

  • Does he not use his own ligature? The one he developed with Rovner?

  • comon man, this is prior to that correspondence with rovner

  • what key is this in?

  • concert D minor

  • Absolute pitch?

  • Heck no! I just know the piece.

  • Heh, hoping someone else out there has it :)

  • oooh.

  • Finally someone posted a vid of this, thank you!! This is what got me hooked on Eddie Daniels in college. I used to listen to it for hours every day back then.

  • OH YEAH!!!!

clearly a master of all genres of music

i love the vibrato that he's able to achieve

  • Eddie Daniels is clearly the epitome of clarinet in today's era.

  • Just amazing..!!! eddie daniels its the best exponent of the clarinet actually... Thanks for your music eddie...!

  • ...(trying to find the adequate word, but at a loss for minutes)

  • I can only play along with him for the first 6 measures my clarinet! AHH

  • If you dont have this CD, then you don't know what your missing. Pure greatness!!! The cd is called Breakthrough

  • please check out Eddie playing the Brahms Clarinet Quintet

  • My God!

Just in case you weren't sure if Eddie could really play the classics.

    Wow!

  • my jaw's too heavy to pick up off the ground right now. I played this song on piano for a recital. It was fun.
