Congrats to Kristine - a fantastic display of swordmanship. Better technique wins the day!
However, I think you all are being to hard on the ninja guy. He put his abilities to the test, entered the tournament and made it to the finals. While I also don't like his fencing style taking 2nd place in such a tournament has got to take some fighting ability and skill. If he really doesn't have any HEMA training if think such an achievment is quite impressive.
I do not like to see a young girl beaten, but she deserved it from her bad self protection. Ninjaboy is a FMA Stickfighter - he do not stop beating seeing another person hitting him. She is presenting a great opening by lifting her sword over her head, Ninjaboy is reacting as a stickfighter with a blow from the side that would smash an other stick away. Did not work that way with swords. But Kristine should have followed the old Lutger's advices and the advice of Liechtenauer not to be greedy.
About late hits, especially after a clear first hit, I don't like them at all. But there is a slight point in trying to defend oneself even after a clear hit. Still, It's unnecessary bruises...
I find all of Staffan's late hits rather sad. I guess he simply bulled his way through the tourney. Kristine's work on the other hand is very heartening. Great sense of timing and distance, form and movement. Kudos! I hope she teaches a class here in the states soon.
Making up for insufficient technique and tactics by irresponsibly whacking a lightly protected opponent is neither sportsman-like nor has it anything to do with simulating a duel with sharp swords. Why was there no warning after the first apparent over-commitment? Kudos to Kristine for retaining her form.
But I cringed watching this. The brave lady must have been left with severe bruises. No promotion for such competitions, I am afraid to say.
@warzechas - Agreed, and high praise for Kristine, who is a true fighter. I would genuinely like to fight her someday - I hope I get the chance. I'm not at all certain I would prevail, either.
Meh.
