  • I believe my dog has the focal form of MG, and we can't afford the antibody test as the vet drained us over $1200 just to figure out he had megaesophagus. Wondering what a positive tensilon test looks like in a dog that doesn't have such dramatic symptoms?

  • @myplaceintime hi , I posted the comment below. Barney has MG and Megaesophagus.

He takes a medicine called mestinon for the MG. If your dog has either or both he can survive with a lot of work. We no longer go through the vets as we ran out of insurance money. He has not visited the vet for a year as we self medicate him. My email is jeanee2@tiscali.co.uk if you want to chat. Let me know exactly what symptoms your dog has.

  • our dog has MG. it is treatable although we have had a rough time keeping his symptoms under control. He has had it 2 years and is not in remission but with our own way of medicating him he is like normal now. It involves giving him mestinon every 4 hrs. if you need any advice post a comment and we may be able to help. x

  • Our medical school showed this to us when we were covering Myasthenia gravis! This is truly beautiful!!

  • @koreandramasrock Oh good! I'm glad you liked the video! It was really great to watch it in action!

  • Wonderful I’m a Respiratory Therapist and I have never seen a tensilon test done yet. This is great thank you.

  • @Christheoverlord

    You're welcome!

  • thank you for the video

  • Oh wow, that's amazing! He looked so happy! :'D

  • wow in an instant effect!!

  • You gave two injections? One would have been the Tensilon, so what was the other? Atropine or placebo??

  • The second injection was a flush. :)

  • I teach nursing and show this video in class to show how dramatic a positive Tensilon test is. I hope this doggie is doing well.

  • Oh good! I'm glad you're getting use out of it! I actually don't know how this dog is doing now as the doctor moved to another clinic nearer her house and I believe the client went as well.

  • I have MG... They gave me the same injection.,, the Dr used it as a Diagnostic. They are also changing the Class the deaseae,,, is in?? Now it is considered part of the Gulf syndrome.. But its main source comes from WWI & WWII, Cause??? nerve Gas..You will be seeing a lot more of this disease when the troops of the Gulf war start having kids, Hopfuly the Government will releases more information down to the civilian Doctors??

  • My Lab Bella, was just diagnosed with MG, she has been on the medication treatment for 3 weeks now.... how is this Pup doing now, any improvement to date????

  • Not sure. The doctor t hat initially treated him is at another clinic now, and I think the client followed her there, so unfortunately, I don't know what his status is! Hope your dog does well!

  • Ola,

Gostaria de saber o nome e a idade desse Golden...

    Obrigada

  • That's pretty great. And quick. If I may ask, what is the injection you gave here? And I heard in the background this lasts approx 5 minutes? So this is strictly diagnostic and not therapeutic. Well thanks so much for the response and the video. ~B~

  • We gave him an injection of edrophonium, also called tensilon. Yeah, it only lasts a few minutes. Therapy for a myasthenic dog is a lot more involved. Giving drugs that last a lot longer, like pyridostigmine, making sure feedings are closely monitored to prevent aspiration, etc. BUT!!! Please do not take my word for it, since I'm not a doctor! Just a veterinary technician.

  • Pyridostigmine is correct for long-term anti-cholinesterase activity. It is also common practice to give prednisolone or azathioprine to help suppress the immune system to prevent the body from creating more autoantibodies against the acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junctions. :)

    Cheers!
