Wow, forgot about this one from the early 70's (I'm 45). You know, this so-called politically correct crap is for the birds. If these PC people really cared, they'd get the kids off the gangster rap.
I remember this short! You're right, mstatz - they would never air this short today even though the bully got what was coming to him. Also, you see the boy who is trying to get the ball consider several ways to accomplish the task. He didn't react immediately, he used his brain. This would be a good lesson to teach to children.
OMG! I so do remember this! For a moment I was transported back in time about 35 years ago. Thank you so much mstatz for posting this!
I also agree with you about what this teaches kids. You won't find this on Sesame Street today probably because it doesn't "jive" with how adults who are politically correct would want kids to solve their conflicts peacefully - which does have its merit - but, sometimes you gotta fight fire with fire. :)
Dang, the one skit that just came back to me in a flash is the baseball one with an A minor song, where a stranger arrives on the field and makes a spectacular catch. Where is that one?...
@Smartboy8877 I haven't looked for Sesame Street clips since I started applying to business schools and I'd completely forgotten about this message until you replied. Now I've found it. Makes me really happy again.
Man, just goes to show you're never too old for vintage Sesame Street. :D
For no good reason I always grin at :54, the way the bully stuffs the (imaginary) ice cream into his mouth like that. Even imaginary brain freeze can hurt!
in the 1997 version the little kid grabs a bat and beats the bully to death, THEN grabs the ball... no ?? just kidding.. it would have been a hcokey game instead of baseball anyways. GREAT memory trip again Statz !! Thanx !! and keep `em coming !!
This segment teaches the same lesson that Oscar the Grouch taught: that not everyone you meet is nice. Oscar was generally dealt with polite patience, but this segment acknowledges that not every unkind person can be dealt with in that way.
I think it was covertly started by "closet bullies" who play the reverse psychology game to eventually make it inappropriate to speak out against there injustice. Thereby allowing these bullies to continue their quest social and political domination.
Anyone notice that the guy who hit the deep fly ball is a VERY slow runner? He was running around the bases the entire time the kid was having problems with the bully and was thrown out at home plate at the end.
Give me the ball you faggot!

It also teaches people that most bullies are not as tough as they appear to be.

It's also a lesson in how all bullies are cowards at heart. Also, for me, a memory flash

@Sparkina
I agree with your point of view about bullies being cowards! They need to be taught who is boss like this one was!

Maybe that bully's a fixer for the other team.

It also teaches on how to solve problems by thinking them out first, as opposed to acting impulsively

You are correct. There is no substitute for thinking strategically.

You will get no argument from me about the way kids are today No discipline
KPCarter2000 4 years ago
Sad but true. If you even attempt to discipline a child, they will threaten to call DCFS. Sometimes you can't spare the rod.

I noticed that too!
