Keep at it! Just remember that you'll get through in the end and when you graduate...you'll have your first ever lovely fat paycheck to look forward to. And after a few years working you will have out-earned a lot of your friends. Good luck :)
@callistinea i've been working for a year now... and lets just say i am poorer than a lot of my friends, but i must say although the majority of work is depressing, there are certain moments which make everything worthwhile =)
We all have thought the same question - third year in med. school - long days and longer nights with books and mindmaps and PPP and just keep memorizing...
Why did I do this?
But then you remember why. And you will be silent. And continue to memorize the symptoms of VSD.
i know how it feels like to get into something you just don't want to do. i'm second year audiology student and really don't like it. A lways wanted to do medicine, but now just feel stuc and don't know what to do?
Yeah.. I feel exactly the same.. But it's too late to drop it.. :D I must go on.. :))) You too.. But I see it's old video.. So maybe you feel a bit different now?? :D
I've had these moments, but it all passes with time. I''m kind of addicted to these studies, because it has taken so much from me that sometimes it seems that this is the only thing that's left for me to do... everyone convinced me that it couldn't possibly be as bad as people say it is. Well, it's not bad, just that it takes away hope sometimes and that sucks like hell. BTW I study med in europe, but I see it's the same everywhere :) hold on!
im in med school.. learn to love it , be passionate about it and think that you will be helping others. all that hard wok and dedication will pay off later.
Bruddah, you is in da wrong profession. Perhaps you is best suited for a career in da film industry or maybe even da xxx industry. Don't go down the road that makes you want to kill yaself. Get over it man, suck it up, we all make mistakes. How we ever gonna know what we want to do until we do it, ya know?
I'm in the same boat. It's a means to an end, buddy. Everyone starts out at the bottom of the heap as a chump. Lawyers starting out go through the same thing, as a clark. Once you get through it you'll have earned the privilages that come with being a doctor, and you'll have a chance to improve the experience of the next generation of medical students (if that's what you decide to do).
I'm looking forward to being a Dr, but yes, life at the moment sucks. Guess it depends how badly you want it.
come on...study gets harder but i know it will improve over time...im not exactly there yet but its what ive seen with others. dont give up study....just give up smoking! :-)
personally im planning on becoming a psych and feel quite passionate about it... you have to be mentally strong, passionate and independent.. U must not worry about your social circle.. if friends get upset your not around fk em their not friends.. ... helping people is very rewarding
I understand that medical school is both physically and intellectually challenging, but it's not so bad. There are people all across the globe who find themselves working 3 jobs for many more years than it takes a diligent student to complete med school. Stop having a pity party for yourself, because you chose this life!
cool clinical website to help you guys get you past medical school. I am about to begin my 4th year in residency and have gone through what you guys talk about...hope my site helps
bravo thats what i think i mean he chose medicne and u shoudve known how hard it is LSD03 u put it in a very good way i cudnt put it in a better myself :-)
I feel you, here we have to do the work of doctors before we qualify because the state hospitals are so understaffed - 26 hour shifts followed be class are nothing out of the ordinary here...
MissHermes without the specialty of radiology, the surgical procedures your "obviously" a master in conducting wouldn't be possible. Turn off grey's anatomy and finish pgy-1. Think before you speak troll...
What bothers me is that getting into med school and getting through are so difficult and so much work. But anybody with a room temp IQ can get a law degree somewhere and second guess anything a physician does and sell it to 12 ignoramuses and take the physician's money, self esteem, practice, sanity...Need I go on??? Happens all the time. "First, kill all the lawyers."
I am a first year medical student... ahhh second time because I had never learned like that in my life, I didn't know what i want or where I want to be, I was lonely, depressed and getting good marks so nobody could understand wtf is wrong with me. But when I dropped out, I finally realised that this is my life, how I can be useful.
Melodramatic self pity, much? I hope you saw it through to the end. Every Med student is in the same boat, everybody goes through the same phases of self doubt.
yes,it reflects the truthful thoughts of med student, the courses are boring, the frequent exams make you tired, but don't give up,if you works harder than who in other majors, you may lives better that them
I understand partner. This is the most toucher I have subjected myself to. We are not mentally right to be going to med school. None of my friends who do regular 9-5's would ever subject themselves to this. Anyway we got to be strong it and eventually it will get better. Wow your video does sum up the present situation.
and if i have the answer to keeping up the strong will ... i would tell you ...
when u can't study .. take a little time off, do something that would lessen the tension .. no one ever said it's gonna be easy being a med student .. it's just a matter of time .. in a couple of years, u'll have the best life, hopefully ..
passion is all well and good, and i guess it is passion that has got me to where i am. the second year exams at oxford were one of the hardest set of university exams in the world, and that was recognised by the Guiness Book of Records.
You must remember, that to become a surgeon there is an entire journey one must traverse and overcome beforehand. I'm in my fifth year, and i had two weeks off since my 4th year final exams, and already i am back with pathology lectures 7 hours a day. All my friends are chilling at home! It's passion that keeps me going. But even that has its limits.
I am not blaming you for anything you are doing. What you are embarking upon is immensely difficult, I can see that and at this point I can only assume how it will hit me.But i see you as an example from which I can learn from. Was it possible to have positivity through out your pre-med career and now?
You know what the best part about a surgery rotation is? Watching the losers crumble and fly into the open arms of some ass-speciality like radiology.
Of course...I dont know much about anything so why am I giving you advice when I myself am to begin my premed career? I hope that your pesimism has evaporated, because to become doctor one requires passion but most of all the will and means to go on and succeed, you cannot possibly be content with mediocrity.I wish you the best.
dude, it's wel easy to say that when you aren't in the quagmire yourself. wait a couple of years, see where your friends are, and then re-evaluate your sentiments.
Wow that's weird...in the US most med students feel 4th year is one of the easiest years...dunno how it's set up in England but here you'd be done with most of the big licensing tests already, and probably have matched into your residency already...so it's just lighthearted rotations to finish out your last year.
i'm at oxford university. just moved to imperial in london for clinical attachments, as that's where all the world class hospitals are. they are a bitch to work at though.
While I do agree it's like working 9 to 5 with extra hours of homework. Everyone else going on vacations while you're stuck on delivery unit or on call or studying for boards. It kind of eats you alive seeing everyone else having a great time while we kill ourselves slowly. But dude, residency is worse.
I'm about to graduate and the last talk we got at med school was about keeping an eye out for each other. So many junior doctors end up topping themselves and, safescraper, that sort of holier than thou attitude doesn't help people who just need to be picked up again.
We're all in the same boat, so we all just need to watch each others backs a little..
don't worry it isn't the end of the world. it can feel like it if you've narrowed your vision too much, but the best advice can be seen atop a jar of mayonnaise:
and Safe-Scraper, wtf? Don't go jumping on that particular bandwagon. "Oh you don't enjoy being treated like crap every minute of the day and are dying to actually get paid something, so you'll never be a good Dr."
Everyone feels like that sometimes. Me, pretty much all the time just now.
Next week I start my exams that will determine my whole future. Whether I get into med school or not. I'm freaking out .I've been studying for a whole years and all my work is done to these exams. So what to do if I didn't get in???
sorry dude..but you would never be a good doctor if you're doing it for the respect, hope you were just kidding. I'm studying med and despite being exhausted by the exertion and for the night-shifts, i would never be able to do something different
I also relate to all, of course except doing harm to my self. Thats not an option! Believe me I have been there, for much much longer than you. Do NOT stop trying and dont let what others say afect you. My assistant in internal med said: anatomists are liars, the truth is that we have 2 ears so that what comes in from one ear can go out from the other.
Hey man, if u kill yourself maybe you can donate your body to my old campus. I`ve been a doc for a year now, and I`m happy. Don`t let those hard times bring u down, we all have been there.
Because its in the genes. Plus I think behind all medics is a hidden quality for self-flagellation. I can totally relate to EVERY point except killing myself, I dont wanna do that. Have you thought of taking up yoga??? It really helps :)
