Umm... thats NOT a 50 foot semi truck. The average size would be more like 74 feet depending on the fifth wheel location on this specific freightliner. Still cool though. Especially since I drive a Semi Truck and I also own a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Could be I might need that kind of help in the future. :)
You guys all realize these jeeps could also be had with the 4.7 V8 right? Looks like it is a limited so most likely has the V8. Not disagreeing with any of the 4.0 comments as its a great motor but this jeep probably isnt the I6.
@mugenfa5 That's not the zoom, It's the auto focus. I believe the large amount of snow falling is throwing it off. It's trying to stay focused on the trucks.
this should be a jeep commercial, would get more people to buy them, I love mine and I only had it a few months, can't wait to take it off-roading this winter ! I have an '01 grand cherokee laredo with the 6 cylinder selec-trac , we also have a 97 grand cherokee with the 4.0 also ! Great vehicles !
I did this last winter. The trucks have such sensitive traction control that they just don't move. The slight pull from the jeep allows the truck to help its self along as the traction control sensors assume that the truck is moving under its own power and keeps turning the wheels. Wish I had a video of mine doing it :)
One of the best vids I've seen. I was lookinf close and that there were snow chains on the Jeep at first but there aren't any. All tires and a straight 6 at that. Most people don't know but the 4.0 liter straight 6 cylinder has more torque than even an f250. It only takes that straight 6 1500rpm to reach max torque. Add the AT tires and this is still amazing! I proud to be driving the American engineered masterpiece.
In what world does Jeep's 4.0L make more torque than a F250? You would have to go back to the antiquated carburated engine from the early 80's for this 2000+ engine to match up. An F250 from the same era produces 365 ft-lbs with their smallest engine available. The v6 in the F150 produces 260 ft-lb, which is its smallest engine, compared to the 230 given by the Cherokee.
@TheTsyw inline engine configurations allow for max torque at lower rpms which decreases the chance of wheel spin before full power gets sent to the ground. That show stunt busters had a segment where a 4.0 xj beat a dodge ram in a tug of war. the 4.0 puts the power down early and efficiently.
i could see now what the semi driver was saying as he's sitting in the rig..."this guy ain't ever gonna get me outta here, its only a jeep, not a caterpillar...ohhh, ohhh, ohhh shit...i'm out!"
is the truck loaded or not? I think what the driver should of done is call the Company and have someone send a truck out to tow him out. The First off he should of had chains which u know its against the law if your not carrying changes for the snow then you would get a ticket. That is how some states works you chain it or you ticket.
Not a single comment about the jeep pulling the truck and trailer over the snow bank on the side of the road. I've pulled those drop trailers, there is no suspension travel. Once that right side of the trailer got up on that bank it lifted weight off the trucks drive tires. I've used my 99 4.0L wj to haul a load of rock in 6' x 12' trailer, jeep trailer and load scaled out at 20,500 lbs. it pulled hills floored at 2200 rpm and no trailer brakes going down hill. Trans did overheat by end of trip.
Back in the day my dad had a comanche 5 spd 31's and a 4.0. He pulled a semi out of a nasty spot one day. All four tires just hucking rocks. Jeeps are tuff!
Guys i'm getting a new tires for a 2002 grand cherokee overland soon , i'm stuck between 2 kind of tires , one is general grabber h-t tire and no.2 is yokohama geolander a/t-s , which one is better ?
i don't offroad too much but i would like the tire to be good in snow and sand
The 4.0 is a good engine, the 42RE tranny behind it isnt.. One of the worst transmissions ever.. of course we have a 98 ZJ 4.0 and the 42re has 180k but for the vast majority its a horrible tranny...
As for the engine while i agree its a great reliable engine, for a 4 liter engine the torque is very low only 225lbs even if it is low end torque.
Reliability, that it being a inline engine makes it super reliable is the main reason why ppl i think like it. I have seen cash for clunker vids lasting 10 minutes even when they blew up through the oil pan and caught fire still running. The 42re's suck yea, but i think it really depends on how you treat it. Ours has 180k on it which is a lot for an automatic.
I have a 5.9 ZJ also, love both of them, I think tho they got rid of the 4.0 because of emission issues.
@1ownjoo2 yeah, they did. was becoming more of a pain in the ass to smog it then it should've. problem was, the little V6s in the jeeps now will never be what the 4.0L inline 6 was. they're good little sixes but they're not THAT good.
I agree, it depends on what you're doing with it. god I love the 5.9L, no one fucks with that. not even the HEMI and everyone can disagree but for what it was, man that thing was a beast and the 4.0 can go forever.
@WarWolfAngel001 agreed one of the best motors ever built. I had a dodge pull my truck from a dock once on ice. It had the cummins diesel and it impressed me. But I like seeing the jeep better. I have a 4.0 with 282k miles on it and still runs and sounds like a new one. Amazing engines
Dodge's and Jeeps were made by chrysler, up until a few years ago when Jeep became their own independent company. Getting back to the point, Jeeps are designed to handle a stronger load, and extreme terrains. They are built to go anywhere. If you want to rant on a car, or suggest a better car for the job, you should at least reply with an educated response. When coming to harsh, and extreme terrains, Jeeps are the best tools, and toys to have.
@NewHipHop2010 Hey I know they are good and would love to have one looking like that but I am just saying that a dodge would have an easier time pulling it out. But Jeeps and Dodges are both good car companies.
@NewHipHop2010 You are aware that it is still part of Chrysler. Thats like saying a mercury is not a ford... when in fact they are almost the same. And a jeep handling a stronger load? what do you mean by that? im pretty sure a dodge truck will handle a bigger load than a jeep any day of the week. maybe you should reply with an educated response.
Now obviously that diesel behind you helped a lot. But that jeep definitely helped pull that rig. Was the trailer loaded or were they just finishing and got stuck?
@parsons537 I have an 06 Grand Cherokee V8 Hemi, I can't tell you how many cars and small pickups I pulled out of ditches. I pulled out the police chief's ford taurus when the tow truck got stuck. I love pulling people out with the power of a Jeep. Nice Job

@parsons537 fyi.
