Dinu Lipatti actually played this as a lullaby! In her book "Souvenirs de ma vie avec Frank Martin," Maria Martin writes about this "petit choral": "(...) il l'avait joué chez nous pour endormir nos enfants (...)"
I meant Wilhelm Friedemann Johann Gottfried Bernhard Johann Christoph Friedrich Johann Christian Carl Philipp Emanuel Regina Susanna Elisabeth Juliana Friederica… and then some :)
later this year (Oct?) we can expect Hyperion to release Jonathan Plowright's 2008 interpretation of this Myra Hess arrangement, along with many other great English transcriptions of JSB. I have posted one - the Sarabande from cello suite no. suite no. 6, transc. Herbert Fryer, on my youtube page
Fantastico........

Lipatti's version is my favourite against to the bad qualaty. He plays it very smooth, and he don't dramatize it too much.
Peaple love to say: Bach is the connection beetween human and God.
I love to say: Hess is the connection beetween us and Bach's 147 canatata, choral.

@agemate And Lipatti is a strong connection to all of them!

i hate musically analysing performances as good as this, but im trying to find reasons why i like it so much...
1. The bass does its job perfectly. I know its there but unaware of it.
2. The Schopp melody is perfectly featured.
3. Myra Hess' arrangement is fantastic.
4. The control. Total control.
Beautiful.
