Hey man, nice videos! I think your easy to understand use of language and your humour is definitely something which endears me to your videos. Keep rocking man.
Working on training your fingers to go in these unusual directions is awesome exercise,I believe that when trying to learn this or any type of new music you should listen to a lot of in this case to fusion, it helps to train your ear and you will always pick up ideas if your ear is good. Thanks for all your tips and ideas.
Great playing and ideas :) This is meant as a compliment, but "Listen to Jimmy Herring much?" :) I really like this stuff man, this style of playing is what I aim for so keep it coming
@SASPython Thanks for asking. Not anymore, but I do give online group classes every Friday evening. I also sell lessons and backing tracks on my site guitarplayback(dot)com
The most popular item is the "applied theory for guitar players". Every item is at least 30% off until this Sunday too. :-)
@Wallimann hmm I'm assuming the info for these group classes is on your site, I'll be sure to check it out in depth when I have some more time on my hands. You're videos are really useful, and the best part I think is that you combine a nice balance of practicality, explanation, and humour, which keeps it interesting and sets it aside from other videos which just throw licks and terminology at you. I'll defiantly be getting some of those jam tracks. And 30% off? mmm I like!
hey man love your playing.is there a handy way of soloing over blues. i seem to loose it when 4th an 5thchords .do i stay in same key or do i hit a certain note while chord changes .ts there a simple way around it. thanks
You can do it either way. I would start just staying within the minor pentatonic scale and just start developing ideas as you would if you are making a speech.
i study composition in a music academy called Fermatta here in mexico!! but there is a class where i need to know how to do impro in all the modes of the major scale!! by the way, nice videos
@chamucopirata no habia escuchado de esa escuela. , saludos desde monterrey. desde mi perspeciva como musico, los modos no sirven de mucho, quiza el modo frigio es el más perceptible
@Wallimann good lincks, i want share my lincks, im classic guitar, then, when i compose, i dont think like an electric guitar. many players tell me, what i compose es very hard to play. CHECK mi linnk in
@GuadalupeBatista The dorian scale is a mode in the major harmonic scale. Think of it like a box like the boxes in the pentatonic scale, but just like all the other modes in the major harmonic scale, the dorian mode can be used as a scale on it's own, making all the other modes in the major harmonic scale your other boxes.
@ImaDjentleman Fusion = You put together different styles (fuse them). But what most people think when they hear the word fusion is Jazz/blues or Jazz/rock.
@ImaDjentleman Fusion = You put together different styles (fuse them). But what most people think when they hear the word fusion is Jazz/blues or Jazz/rock.
Never been a fan of the lick-rehearsal method of guitar playing. It's like rehearsing what you would say in a conversation in case the subject will ever come up. Skip the licks and start working on your ear.
@deadithink i kind of agree ... on the other hand : if you learn a language you first learn the words and than you always learn examples on how to use them. so for me (playing guitar for almost 3 years now and just getting deeper into the modes) it is extremely helpful to listen to different pieces and also just learn licks to give me an idea on how i can use those notes and how they will sound together :)
@makiimedia That's fine, but, and I will temporarily abandon the language metaphor, I prefer to focus on learning the sounds so I can play freely what i hear in my head. In terms of the metaphor, I want to learn the object and then the word describing it, instead of responding to prompts in the language. Some player go by the lick method, and when prompted by a chord change, respond with the same licks over and over. If you learn the sounds in your head, you will ultimately become a freer player

Ta maîtrise de l'anglais est excellente dans ce cas ;-) mais tu dois déjà le savoir... @georgeorlando705 You're right buddy, the F doesn't belong to B Dorian. A lot of times, fusion players use notes that are not part of the scale to add a bit of tension. That's what's happening here. The lick works well in a Dorian key, and that F just adds a bit of extra tension.
