  • @v2vroth Thanks! Free live class in a couple hours btw on justin(dot)tv/wallimann

  • Dude thank you for making these videos its competely changed the way I approach soloing and song writing in general. Lick 6 is my favorite

  • @YourGraveIsHere Thanks!!

  • Hey man, nice videos! I think your easy to understand use of language and your humour is definitely something which endears me to your videos. Keep rocking man.

    Peace from Maldives!

  • @DeadlyPenguinMusic Thanks so much!

  • Working on training your fingers to go in these unusual directions is awesome exercise,I believe that when trying to learn this or any type of new music you should listen to a lot of in this case to fusion, it helps to train your ear and you will always pick up ideas if your ear is good. Thanks for all your tips and ideas.

  • @1stchoicemodern Thanks for watching!

  • Dude, Your Parker Fly is beautiful.

  • @MrJago1994 Thanks! This model is an early Nitefly model. Got it in 98 I think...

  • Pow Wallimann is what we need, fusion in the vein grateful :0

  • very cool man. Your lessons are so interesting. Thanks and good luck. Congratulations from Brazil.

  • @mmarciomachado72 Thanks man!

  • Great playing and ideas :) This is meant as a compliment, but "Listen to Jimmy Herring much?" :) I really like this stuff man, this style of playing is what I aim for so keep it coming

  • @southernshred Thanks so much! Yes!!! I love Jimmy Herring!

  • Sick playing. You have a killer vibrato

  • @BlackAdderLXX Thanks a lot!

  • @Wallimann your a good teacher and i love how you have tab with it perfect

  • @satchrules101 Thank you for all your nice comments, it means a lot!

  • 1:17 that is soooo Inspector Gadget :P

  • @PGm0nkey Yes it is! :-)

  • do you give private lessons?

  • @SASPython Thanks for asking. Not anymore, but I do give online group classes every Friday evening. I also sell lessons and backing tracks on my site guitarplayback(dot)com

The most popular item is the "applied theory for guitar players". Every item is at least 30% off until this Sunday too. :-)

  • @Wallimann hmm I'm assuming the info for these group classes is on your site, I'll be sure to check it out in depth when I have some more time on my hands. You're videos are really useful, and the best part I think is that you combine a nice balance of practicality, explanation, and humour, which keeps it interesting and sets it aside from other videos which just throw licks and terminology at you. I'll defiantly be getting some of those jam tracks. And 30% off? mmm I like!

  • @SASPython :-)

  • thanks for sharing ur skills, its was very helpful..i might be up all night workin on these.....

  • @jsax426 Thanks for watching!

  • I'm suscribing... Parles tu français?

  • @oxmanuxo Thanks! Oui, effectivement je suis Français. :-)

  • great ideas and concepts. Thank You. I'm Your fan

  • @lawina76 Thank you so much, I really appreciate that!

  • JEW

  • @Marubache Huh?

  • hey man love your playing.is there a handy way of soloing over blues. i seem to loose it when 4th an 5thchords .do i stay in same key or do i hit a certain note while chord changes .ts there a simple way around it. thanks

  • @darrenoneill1001 Thank you very much for the nice comments!

You can do it either way. I would start just staying within the minor pentatonic scale and just start developing ideas as you would if you are making a speech.

  • i hope this help me for my tomorrow modal improvisation exame!!! (sorry about my bad english)

  • @chamucopirata Let me know how you do!

  • @chamucopirata What kind of exam is that for by the way?

  • i study composition in a music academy called Fermatta here in mexico!! but there is a class where i need to know how to do impro in all the modes of the major scale!! by the way, nice videos

  • @chamucopirata Very cool! Best of luck with the exam! :-)

  • @chamucopirata no habia escuchado de esa escuela. , saludos desde monterrey. desde mi perspeciva como musico, los modos no sirven de mucho, quiza el modo frigio es el más perceptible

  • @Wallimann good lincks, i want share my lincks, im classic guitar, then, when i compose, i dont think like an electric guitar. many players tell me, what i compose es very hard to play. CHECK mi linnk in

(sorry i dont speak eanglish very well)

  • @basenjiguitar Good job!! :-)

  • so what key are these licks in

  • @topdog2328 B Dorian...

  • check out chris poland.... amazing fusion player. the best

  • Lick 3: I just thought "omg, Satriani!" :D

  • What is a dorian scale? And is there a helpfull video/ (and, or) Site that can help me find out? THANKS!!

  • @GuadalupeBatista I'm giving an online Masterclass on that subject Sept the 18th. Check my video: Playing Modal Online Masterclass :-)

  • @Wallimann Thank you Mr.Williamnn:D!! Your videos are awsome by the way You taught me ALOT!! Thanks for that :D!!!

  • @GuadalupeBatista The dorian scale is a mode in the major harmonic scale. Think of it like a box like the boxes in the pentatonic scale, but just like all the other modes in the major harmonic scale, the dorian mode can be used as a scale on it's own, making all the other modes in the major harmonic scale your other boxes.

  • @GuadalupeBatista its a flat third and a flat seven XD

  • @GuadalupeBatista dorian is the second mode of the major scale......if you play it with no sharps or flats it would be D, E, F, G, A, B, C, D

  • Well it's Dorian but with borrowed/chromatic passing notes, right ?

  • @cheul Yeah!

  • i know this is a stupid question but im havin trouble defining what fusion is?

like a genre? like guthrie govan/ gregg howe?

I still i dont get it. grr, frustrating

  • @ImaDjentleman Yeah, that's it. It's just a mix of several genres..

  • @ImaDjentleman Fusion = You put together different styles (fuse them). But what most people think when they hear the word fusion is Jazz/blues or Jazz/rock.

  • how can I apply this licks?is this major or minor?

  • @tianrocks They're all Dorian licks. :-)

  • Great ideas. I love the idea of presenting "short" phrases. Definitely going to give me something to work on. Thanks!

  • @carvetop Thanks! Glad you liked it!

  • those licks sound evil/fusion 'esque.

    i like it ;)

  • @slayisinsanified Thanks for watching!

  • que florazo men al grano....DONT TALK A LOT PLEASE ....

  • @MrDlorean Sir! Yes Sir!

  • Love these licks. But why do they end sometimes on a weird sounding note?

  • @drannelli Just to add tension. :-D

  • Great licks! I particularly enjoyed the 2nd one

  • @jparecki95 Thanks man!

  • That was fun.

  • @jwandhistools Thanks for watching!

  • Never been a fan of the lick-rehearsal method of guitar playing. It's like rehearsing what you would say in a conversation in case the subject will ever come up. Skip the licks and start working on your ear.

  • @deadithink I absolutely agree with you on that. But some licks can be starting ideas though...

  • @deadithink i kind of agree ... on the other hand : if you learn a language you first learn the words and than you always learn examples on how to use them. so for me (playing guitar for almost 3 years now and just getting deeper into the modes) it is extremely helpful to listen to different pieces and also just learn licks to give me an idea on how i can use those notes and how they will sound together :)

  • @makiimedia That's fine, but, and I will temporarily abandon the language metaphor, I prefer to focus on learning the sounds so I can play freely what i hear in my head. In terms of the metaphor, I want to learn the object and then the word describing it, instead of responding to prompts in the language. Some player go by the lick method, and when prompted by a chord change, respond with the same licks over and over. If you learn the sounds in your head, you will ultimately become a freer player

  • Lick 8 is my favourite!

  • fantastic video! Ive never thought of writing licks BEFORE soloing before... Ive been making them up on the spot. I wonder if that has some effect on my issue.

  • @Parmenides480BC Thanks! Yeah, working on new licks can help. Kind of like learning new words. :-)

  • didnt say anything about having to buy the damned backing tracks :(

  • @spike4379 You don't have to, you can use these anywhere you want...

  • @Wallimann course i know that lol

  • @spike4379 I probably didn't understand your original message.... What did you mean?

  • @Wallimann oh sorry i just meant that in the video you didnt mention the backing tracks were tobuy only

  • @spike4379 Oh ok! :-D

  • Euuh.. tu serais pas français par hasard ? (sinon j'adore tes vidéos :) )

  • @acdcfandefrance Merci! Oui oui, je suis bien Français. :-D

  • @Wallimann

    Merci!

  • @arasu90 Merci beaucoup!

    Bonne chance avec les exams!

  • nice lick, thanks man it helps a lot...

  • @njreyes1 Thanks for watching!

  • Walliman you're cool with it , man...thx and keep it coming plz! :)

  • @BeauShelbyandFlyy Thanks!

  • @rexasul Thanks for watching, I'm glad you liked this!

  • go fusion master!

  • 3 people couldnt learn the licks.

  • Great licks. Nice to see someone using a Parker. Very underrated axe.

  • @jwandhistools Thanks man! I love Parkers! :-)

  • Thanks for the instructions. These are great and your teaching method is great. How can there be 2 dislikes? WTF?

  • @cajunstrat Thank you! :-)

  • The tabs arent on your website :\

  • @mehtabb1 Yeah, I'm sorry.

This is an old video and the website was completely redone since.

    Sorry~

  • @Wallimann

No problem, at least they're in the video! Thanks for the licks dude!

  • wow this guy is awesome i just subscribed :)

  • @rippedray Thank you so much! :-)

  • These licks are great. Thank you!

  • walliman reminds me of jason segel....thinner....awesome licks!! loved them all.

  • Is that considered fusion? Sounds like Satriani or Eric Johnson type shred. I never considered that to be fusion.

  • Good stuff.

  • @kalebman5000 Thanks man!

  • 1.18 gadget gadget.... uh uhh gadget gadget,,

  • HI Wallimann....Thanks for sharing all of this great stuff. I have a question about lick #1...Please excuse my naive question, as I am still learning about lead guitar. You said that this lick, as all the rest, is in B dorian. I don't understand why there is an F natural at the end of the lick. Could you please explain? It would be very helpful and much appreciated. Thanks!

  • @georgeorlando705 You're right buddy, the F doesn't belong to B Dorian. A lot of times, fusion players use notes that are not part of the scale to add a bit of tension. That's what's happening here. The lick works well in a Dorian key, and that F just adds a bit of extra tension.

    I hope that helps!

  • are u french dude ye? btw what gear have u used on this?? im most interested in the guitar, but as much as u could tell me would be mint.

  • @dobsonone Hi man!

Yes, I'm French exiled in Colorado. I'm originally from Aix en Provence.

The guitar is a Parker Nitefly. :-)

  • I just stumbled upon your channel, seems like there is alot here that's worth exploring.

    Thank you for sharing!

  • @Explosive184 Thanks! And welcome! :-)

  • Nice Tone!

  • What are you going to do with licks? If you don't know the notes on your fretboard or something theory, those licks are useless.

  • @diamonddust22 Yeah, I know. :-)

  • @diamonddust22 you can use them, analyse them etc. Licks are never useless.

  • @CobHatecrewNor Well, that makes sense.

  • SUBSCRIBED.

  • @Aeoliandorian Thanks!

  • great video! thank you! will be a big help

  • @wickedmojo Glad you like it! :-)

  • Thanks for sharing David, love your style of playing.

I'm still learning to do all this and to understand what it is you're doing.

I'm in my second year of studying jazz and we haven't come this far yet, but this is the direction I want to go eventually.

I would love to help you anyway I can with tabs and all, but for the moment I'm kinda short on time myself.

I really want you to become one of YouTubes' most appreciated guitar players, because I know what you can do.

  • @goldheartguitar Thank you so much for the very nice words!

I wish we all had more time on our hands for sure!

Good luck with your studies too man. :-)

  • You dont have to use this licks if you are learning scales, but this is very good finger practice!.

  • @LeXdOVideoz Glad you like them! :-)

  • Great lesson to be learned!

  • @ElWischi Glad you liked it!

  • do more..talk less

  • @chalhuaia Sir! Yes Sir! :-)

  • @Wallimann haha..

  • man youre the best!

  • @Jinkzy123 Thanks!! I'm glad you liked the video!

  • @Wallimann I have a question. How do you solo that sounds like fusion or what scales should I use because my solo sounds like blues whatever I do?

  • @Jinkzy123 You should look into richer scales than the pentatonic maybe? Try the Dorian which is just like a minor pentatonic with an additional Major 2nd and Major 6th. :-)

  • Very interesting and inspiring licks! By the way, is that the same guitar Dean Brown uses? :)

  • @BackToTheLabOnceMore Thanks!

Hmmm.. I'm not familiar with Dean, who is it?

  • @Wallimann

He played together with Marcus Miller (a jazz/funk bassist) and I thought his guitar had a similar shape.

  • @BackToTheLabOnceMore Cool!

I'll have to check him out, I love Marcus!

  • Just Love this Ideas.

And just love your videos :-)

    Congarts

  • @chavamel Oh man, thank you sooo much! :-)
