@Kkerr72 Ther's no reason to wright it in 11/12 caus it would sound the same anyway. It would just be harder for the musicians to read the piece if you change it from 8 or 16 to 12. Thats why its allways in 11/4, 8, 16 or higher.
in other hand, combining a 4/4 and a 4/3 would make it sound like first 4 Quarter notes and than 4 Tuplet's.
I saw the Ellis orchestra perform this live in Verona, NJ, in 1972, in one of the most memorable concerts I ever attended. The pianist is Milcho Leviev, who had only recently joined the band from his native Bulgaria.
Thank you for posting this! I haven't heard this stuff since 1972, I loved it then and I love it now. There is some Don Ellis on iTunes but not this song or any of the other really good stuff like "Hey Jude" or "Loss".
Don Ellis, place and date of birth The Angels, California, the USA, 07-25-1934 and the place and date of his(her, your) death Hollywood, California, the USA, 12-17-1978. Thank you for his(her, your) commentary.

@purplecloud191702 You are mistaken. It is in 11/12, hence blues in elf (eleven).

Look up a company called Wounded Bird Records; they licensed this and put out a 2 cd set a couple years ago. This is from "Tears of Joy".

I think Amazon has the album on CD :)

I believe this tune was on the LP Tears of Joy. Milcho Leviev was the Bulgarian piano soloist. Great stuff!
Thanks for posting a nice memory.
