  • It's the Maton Tommy Emmanuel model. There's also a Fender Tommy Emmanuel Telecaster 3 pickup ( Mexican )

  • Maton--an australian made guitar--he has a deal with them, I believe.

  • Whatz he playing? Martin?

  • Is thgis an open tuning?

  • I have seen this fellow play on stage in Sydney and he is amazing! He plays for the crowd and for himself depending on the tune, He can play anything any style and any speed and you amateur playing clowns that criticize this genius of the guitar are laughable...!

  • If he enjoys what he is doing and how he plays. I say the power to him. Do what makes you happy in life.

  • This guy is very good, but he constantly spoils his performance by playing so fast that it becomes all about his speed rather than the sound of the song. A song can be played too fast to enjoy, and he does this all too often.

Is he good? No he is Great, a Master Player for sure. Just cranks up the speed to the point of being out of crisp control. Turns an impressive performance into a blur of Ego Rubish.

  • @01Stratplayer To be honest, he plays more crisp than most musicians do at half that speed. While I don't always agree with showboating, sometimes guitars need to just go nuts and have fun - variety is the spice of life. I think he's able to keep his fun attitude about playing guitar because he has those moments of silly little tricks and whatnot, instead of being perfect 24/7. I'm not trying to argue, but I think he's earned the privilege to do whatever he wantsat this point lol

  • The video is sped up just look at his head and body movements around 1:45...still crazy though

  • @TheAtomBuster Watch the [EBS SPACE] Tommy Emmanuel - Tall Fiddler.mp4 video. Its in hi-def and the camera can actually keep up with him. You will be amazed when you realize he is just actually that fast.

  • Er....is there anything he cant play ???

  • As good as he is He shows off every time he picks up a guitar.... even when he's not trying....

  • he can show off any time he likes........... he's a genius

  • There's no "camera" work....or speed of video changes.. This IS Tommy Emanuel at his norm....just phenomenal..!!!

  • Tommy lives in another dimension.

  • Holy shit! He's a cyborg from the year 2112, here to put all other 21st Century guitar players to shame...bow before his awesome might and swear your allegiance to.........the Tommynator!

  • I want that guitar strap...sweeeet!

  • As much as I love Tommy, and this isn't meant to take away from him, but I'm pretty positive this *is* sped up. Just look at his movements from around 1:40. Everything is very insect-like, and the usual TE flow isn't there. It's extremely twitchy. Very likely sped up.

  • by the way, search youtube for other videos of Tommy playing Tall Fiddler--you'll find plenty of others where the video seems to be sped up but is not. Tommy re-defines possibility.

  • sorry man, you sound fairly knowledgeable, but you're wrong. I was there and shot the video. I promise you, it's not sped up. But in your defense, if I hadn't seen it myself I would not have believed it was possible either.

  • @bentile1 his technique of alternating between strict locked wrist strums and half-strum/half-single-notes-picked with the wrist and fingers is just sick ! That's the kind of stuff where you're so good you CANT even think about what it is your doing, you're just making music straight from the heart to the hands.

  • I'm pretty sure, after playing for 30yrs and seeing Tommy in concert many times - and playing many of his songs (reasonably well) - that this particular video is sped up 10-15%. I've studied Al Di Meola, John Mc Laughlin, Shawn Lane, Chris Impellitiri, Micheal Angelo Battio, Frank Gambale, P Gilbert and all usual suspects in alternative picking mastery and I don't think this second section is humanly possible. Good fun, but mis-leading to those who don't know. Compare it to other vids yourself.

  • @simonkoelmeyer no its not you twisted man

  • @simonkoelmeyer - If you speeded up a video, the pitch of the guitar would go up by the same amount. Go get your acoustic, put a capo on the second fret and play a folk G major shape. You will find that it's perfectly in tune with the blessed Tommy's guitar. The piece is in A major. Also cedarhawk take note.

  • 7 people have not understood anything about the music ...

  • Whose Pickin that Banjo !

  • ARGGGHHH! and? so what! what is that song turkey jive?

  • Tommy has no need to show off....Showing off is for people who think they have something to prove. Tommy is just being Tommy!!!!

  • he is not showing off, for him it is something that he does every day before breakfast

  • Too bad the camera guy never heard of a steady cam??

  • Its amazing what you can find on youtube sometimes. I was trying to play something else and clikked this one by accident and now I forgot what I was originally looking for. Do I care? Hell no, I wish all my mistakes were this productive.

  • Who sped up the video? Like holy s**t Emmanuel =O

  • The guitar never stood a chance!!

  • buy a fucking tripod....

  • looks like a sped up version of the hunt

  • is he deliberately making it sound like a banjo or what?? o_O

  • yeah - it's good... but it'll never replace music.

  • wharrrrrrk!

  • @AlisonChaynes Wrong! This is a walk in the park for TE.

  • @AlisonChaynes I can vouch for @Moley892 - not sped up at all. I was at the concert last night too and we witnessed him playing this piece at this speed with our own eyes. The guy is utterly incomparable :)

  • @AlisonChaynes nope... saw him last night and unless he can slow time down then this is exactly how he played at my gig =O

  • I saw him once - he's a crazy mf - excellent musician.

  • dragonforce aint got nuthin on tommy

  • So is he a honda or toyota robot?

  • He's not showing off, he's entertaining!

  • AXEBOY I take it back I'm sorry, I dont really fuck your mother.

  • @axeboy and Bentlie1, First off I am not on YOUR youtube. Second, I said that he was an decent player just that your lousy video takes away from the enjoyment of the performance. Don't post them if they suck. AXEBOY -I wipe my dick after fucking your your mother! You got big mouths online saying shit to someone you don't even know. The both of you are probably shitty guitar players who enjoy sucking the dicks of those who can. So get on your knees BOYS! and start suckin!

  • I'm sorry, but that was completely impossible :-) He's one of those players with hummingbird speed -- can never figure out what their hands are doing--or which one is doing whatever it is they're doing --to produce the magic. There's talent, then there's Tommy. Thanks for sharing the soul food.

  • Well he has been practicing since the age of 6, and well only Tommy can do Tommy and aren't we just that fortunate for it, I am.

  • i hope the guitar was 18 years old...

  • 0_0 Humans arent designed to move that fast. Tommy is superhuman

  • Thanks for sharing your experience with us! Hopefully I will get that same chance.

  • Tommy does not show off. He simply exists.

  • this guy re-writes the book. Inspirational.

  • i almost thought it was in fast forward

  • Who recorded this video? MJFox?

  • Geewillakers!

  • now that was fun.

  • Um, ok, at what point was he showing off? If he was blind folded when he played this, then i would say he was showing off, but this is just warming up to him.

  • The Genius that is,Tommy Emmanuel!....WOW! He's mind blowing!

  • UNBELIEVABLE!....I would love to have seen Tommy and Danny Gatton play together... Would that have been something! HA

  • UNBELIEVABLE!....

  • Jesus Christ - that is unbelievable.

  • WTF, 5 dislikes?!

  • I just learned to play this, just cant be bothered to post the vid...

  • My ears are to slow to keep up with his fingers. That is a real knuckle buster. Was that smoke coming off of the pick?

  • Thx for sharing your video :-)

  • @chirpybee You're welcome. Glad you appreciated it. Tommy's awesome, and I loved meeting him afterward. I told him that my dad was a real fan of his, and had just passed away, and I was hoping he would play "I still can't say goodbye". He said he almost chose to play that, and that the song meant a lot to him too when he thought of his dad. Cool Guy!

  • @chirpybee Yes thank you for this video of the VIRTUOSO at work! Tommy has got to be the best alive! God He is Awesome!

  • @TadRapidly yeah, well I was less interested in taking the video than watching him with my own two eyes. Not to mention I was zoomed in a good distance--but anyway, You're welcome.

  • @TadRapidly oh shit you just got told!

  • @SamRIPJimi Yes, I have been pwned. It would have been extra embarrassing if he actually was epileptic.

  • This is Tommy taking a nap.

  • @appetitefordynamite hahahaha

  • 0:01-1:59 - sick

  • When I was kid I used to watch him play at the local pub. He was just another local guy. Had no idea at the time how one day I'd wish I could go back and do it again over and over.

  • I saw tommy play 9-21-2001, he played this song awesome! I wish he played classical gas tho. Hopefully he does next time!

  • He's the master!

  • Showing off? This is tuning to him :P

  • The song is Tall Fiddler for those who was wondering.

  • forget coffee, just play Tommy, ridiculous

  • all i can say is wow!!!

  • great stuff. I was getting dizzy though! lol

  • @xdivinebladex

    Make it better , idiot!

  • Does anyone know what kind of pick or thumb device he is using? He's moving so fast I can't tell.

  • @PhantomDrums917 Tommy uses the Dunlop thumb pick primarily as wraps about the thumb.. comes in small, medium or large sizes... about £1.20 to buy.

  • @PhantomDrums917 For this song he uses a flat pick.... For some of his other songs he uses the dunlop thumbpicks

  • @Mattias0KL I actually just saw him in New Brunswick and bought a couple of his signature picks. :):) Thanks though!

  • As much as I love Tommy, this is just too fast! He overdoes the speed at the cost of musicality and even becomes sloppy here and there. No wonder at this speed but still, the recorded version on the CD is at 3/4 the tempo and is groovy and slick, 100 times better!

  • @Anne1878 Unfortuantly, not true. There is almost nothing wrong with this video. This is how the song was originally written, and how many cover it today. The CD version I beleve wasn't as fast the second time around, but still is just as grovey at high speeds. This particular video is one of emmanuel's best version of this song today.

  • awesome to see tall fiddler played on this maton, normaly it is played on his custom made maton :P. love you tommy (L)

  • tommy a normal day at work:)

  • True genius!! It's so fucking natural to him it makes me sick.

  • must melt a lot of strings!!

  • @MrPaboy69 I heard him say on youtube that he gets new chords for every concert. :)

  • @anrei0000 Not Chords; strings.

  • Could anyone think of an even more vague title for a Tommy vid? lol

  • Tommy showing off wouldnt be possible to comprehend. tommy just playing normally is what you see/hear in the video.. if he were showing off your eyes might melt and eardrums explode from the awesomeness.

  • He doesn't have to show off. He is just the GOD.

  • WOAHH look how new his guitar is back then =P

lol it wouldn't have lasted long before recieving that distiguishing Tommy-treatment =P

  • no way hes not fuckign human like what does hits guy eat

  • You call me an idiot,or it was heard to me?

  • what is this song called?

  • tall fiddler i guess...

  • It's called "Tall Fiddler" ;)
