No disrespect to you brother Tavis, be OUR children need to see the BIG PICTURE. The last 500 years is but a flicker in time, compared to our true GLORIOUS PAST.
We know about OUR history for the last 500 years! What about the 5000 thousand years before that? Or the 50,000 years before that? We don't need to see any shackles, to remind us of the oppression that still exsists today. We need to see images of our past GREATNESS. THOSE IMAGES WILL GIVE WAY TO OUR FUTURE GREATNESS. That is how we get our people to "KEEP THE FAITH".
How about some history talking about who we were BEFORE we were "slaves"? I'm tired of hearing about the "shackles" and the "whips". I'm tired of hearing about "Michael Jordan" and "Muhammed Ali". Talk about when we were Kings and Queens. Talk about the Olmecs and Washitaw tribes. Talk about something that most of our youth in school never hears about. Talking about "slavery" is detrimental on the minds of our children making them believe that was all that our ancestors were.
I march on. Doing what I can for myself, my family and my community. I have learned to look away from and to confront evil. I realize I can only do what I can. It doesn't matter to me what anyone else thinks about anymore. What matters is that the work gets done for the benefit of today and tommorow. If I know with a clear concious I have made an effort may the works I have done speak for me. The exhibit is a great great great event. With all sincerity thanks for not giving up.
This is a very positive exhibit and I hope that it catches on. So many young people especially since they are the future need to understand what it means to be african-american or black period. It is a great legacy and it does not seem like it will ever be told the right way. But, being a woman of faith in God. Walk by faith not by sight.
What's interesting to me is that there is a difference between America (the continent) and United States of America (the corporation/government). At times this seems petty, but I believe it is important to understand and keep in mind these two important differences. When looking at it in that perspective you take in all the history, including the facts that Africans came to this continent way before Columbus and it was originally Native American land.
Thank you Tavis for your ongoing knowledge. I also interned for you as well. I appreciate the opportunity and your support. It was an amazing experience. PEACE AND BLESSINGS,OMAR
George Washington Carver did invent peanut butter... it was created by an M.D. in St. Louis as a protein substitute for patients that couldn't eat solid foods.
George Washington Carver did much to aid agriculture and other sciences, but he did not create peanut butter.
we have to be careful that as African Americans we always hold on to a free thinking spirit and never feel bullied into being sheep or not allowed to have a different opinion than the NEXT african American.
I didnt receive the memo that all Blacks had to fall lockstep in with each other.
the idea that gorge washington carver created Peanut butter is a myth. Yes, Dr. Carver created a little over 100 things you can do with Peanuts. Peanut butter was invented in 1890 by Dr. John Kellogg. In a way its sad that Mr. Smiley would not know this or if he dose kepp up the myth of it. Dr. Carver did a lot of great things and saved most of the farming in the south, this is true, but gorge washington carver did not create peanut butter.
So he got it wrong. Good. I believe thats his point. Learn our country's history, regardless of what race you are and maybe than people can appreciate what each culture brings, if not, we will just continue the same old shiggity!
Good job, Tavis. I really appreciate what you're doing. I will keep the faith. :-)

Forget you Tavis, you and Jessie Jackson have gone astray! Your mind has been filled with a deceptive kind of envy toward Senator Obama.
You know better.
