I remember first seeing it after playing Berserk for a while. It really made Berserk look like a joke. I don't think I ever played Berserk again after discovering Robotron. Definately a classic.

I remember playing this on saturday mornings, I'd find "slugs" cause I couldn't afford quarters and played the game forever. One day I got into the zone and played for 4 hours straight on one quarter. I was late to dinner. I had a hard time riding home on my bicycleI didn't sleep right for a day or so.

The Zen of video games, and you're good at it. I think the two-stick, upright version of the game should be pronounced, officially, the best video game design of all time. I was playing at a friend's house a few months ago and it hit me: Robotron IS the best video game ever. And, perhaps like God is the supreme being, no amount of argument or dispute can ever take that away.

I have to agree - Robotron Is the best videogame EVER! No other game then or since could get my pulse raised up with the shere intensity of the game like Robotron could. It's like being in the opening scene where they're storming the beach in Saving Private Ryan - only more intense! Loved this game and spent a small fortune playing it in high school.

defender was probably in the same league. You either loved that game or never saw any further than level two. The control layout was horrible but if you got the method right you could whilse away hours of what would have been nothing to do.

I'm writing a version of Robotron 2084 but the Hulk AI has me stumped. They are just too random to emulate properly. Anyone know of any good Robotron sources that can explain (and not seanriddle's site, already looked at that, also checked MAME source too)

Doubt if there will be any design documents that detail, to the code level, how the hulks behave, to be honest. I thought they would seek out family first THEN player but in the early waves they seem to be very random.

The highest officially verified score for this game is nearly 348,691,680 but anything over a million is pretty blasted good. Well done. To master this game is an achievement that actually says something far more than just being good at a video game: Most people will never be good enough to master Robotron if they tried for the rest of their lives.

How is this possible? It take about 4 hours to get 10 million. The most I ever played on one quarter was about 20 million over 8 hours cause I accidentally rolled the score over the first time, so I kept on playing.

Simple math ... it would take about 5 1/2 days of continuous playing with no sleep, bathroom breaks, or food to get about 340 million.

Who did it and when? I'm interested in knowing.

i read in the 'computer & video games' magazine back in the early 80's the highest scores for certain video games and Robotron was one of them i can remember reading that a guy called MIKE ZAC who lived in WESTBLOOMFIELD,MICHIGAN,USA had the worlds highest score of 350,000,000 i wonder if it is the same guy you are on about?

this game will NEVER get old.. no matter HOW good graphics will get.. it's not about the graphics, it's about the gameplay and other than Tempest, NO other game requires TOTAL focus than this game for me... you can't think about ANYTHING else if you want to do well on 2084.

Ahhh this was my teen years right here...so much time spent on this game. My 'high' was over 3 million - not sure what difficulty level was but I remember getting the high and some kid of the guy who owned the arcade got into the machine and put his name on my high score...lol. I used to love the level where it gets really thick with little red robots. I'd clear a path straight down, across to the right side then up.
