A coconut is the same thinkness and resistence as a human skull, as in you can take cut someone's head in half (assuming you don't hit the jaw bone which is not facotred in)
I love japanese swords and I have one myself, made of spring steel, bought in Toledo, Spain, years ago.
BUT, believe it or not... I can split an unpeeled coconut in two perfect halves with a single blow, with my $10 - 12" blade machete... I used to do that daily, back in Panama/Caribbean, to eat the pulp after drinking one. So... :)
besides, yes: technique does matter a lot, despite the blade price.
I guarantee you can cut a 2" branch from a tree with a 10 bucks machete, if you know how.
that sword isnt an actual japanese forged katana its most likley a chinese forged replica if it was real it would of sliced through your cooler a real katana can slice through fully grown bamboo stalks which is harder than the plywood your using
Yeah, I am going to buy a Ronin katana for about 800. Is a one of a kind. :P I wont say what one, of it will get bought. :O Differentially hardened (clayed) and water quenched. awsome.
$800 is fuck all for a "specially forged blade" - I doubt that.
Traditional swords steel is worth a lot, the blades take forever to fold, so to sell it for $800 is fucking bull shit it IS a replica it's not real it's just steel I bet it doesn't even have iron on the blade (sharpness) or so I think it's iron.
@xXMC023Xx It would cost more if it was made from the traditional japanse sword steel Tamahagane. Now that could cost up to 80,000 dollars. But, alot of katanas in the US are made from either a high carbon steel or a tool steel like W2 or T10 just to make it cheaper but, functional.
@xXMC023Xx You're not in a position to tell anyone what is and isn't bullshit it you "think" it's iron. The iron is not on the blade, traditionally forged japanese swords have an iron core, the sharpess comes from the steel. Steel is harder than iron, but too britle by itself; hence the iron core which gives it needed flexibility.
The Masayoshi Katana is forged using the Japanese Nihonto method. It is a fully functional Japanese katana, NOT a replica. This is an $800 hand forged Sword. so know what your talkin about before you talk shit. I was nervous about cutting the coconut in half thinking it might damage my blade, it cut clean through and the katana was fine. The only thing i didnt do properly was cut the coconut on a solid surface. when i make the cut the cooler bounced off my deck. But i still made the cut.

But none the less thank you for the video

@xXMC023Xx I totally agree. $800 for a katana only implies that it is of shit quality.
