@DenisTheMenace93 not only did it inspire Temple of the Dog but without Temple of the Dog, the members of Pearl Jam would probably not have gotten together so we really owe two great bands to his death as sad as it is
I miss the simplicity of the time. I didn't mind being a poster collector, during the grunge period. I like the melodies of that time, music is today so much a monotone, digitally speaking. I can listen to these dudes try, all day, I hate all the bands thinking they "got it". I don't follow the Seattle careers though. Tool followed them and they aren't very talented despite the mathematics and his itchy ass. Seattle was so refreshing. No more waiting for Sabbath. Don't like Foo fighters though.
but u gata remeber drugs made grunge ......think abt it who was good and clean durin tht time period?? noone loollzzz i mean this is true 4 most types of music but specialy grunge
Im a metal head, but im not ashamed to listen to this because half this band, including the singer, are clearly leaning more toward hair metal. Like borderline.
@lurycio i hear what your saying definitely.. but how many albums do you hear these days where they are playable all the way through and i just don't mean one time (as im saying about this cd). Then you have to throw into the mix its the first album (which in MLB case) the only one... there is tons of bands that are still rocking and there first cd wasn't as good as maybe there 2nd or so on..
@jeanely14 Well said, guys like Lennon, Oliva, Zappa, Burton (off the top of my head) were taken. Woods and many many others are gone by their own doing. Sad but i will not moarn those that threw away what others would love to have .... life....
So whatever happened to Bruce Fairweather and Greg Gilmore? It kinda sucks that they never had the success that Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament had after the Wood tragedy.
Andrew Wood is, I believe, one of the most influencial musicians of the grunge era..he died so early, and yet he is quite famous.. just imagine if was still alive 4-5 years laters..and of course even his death provided us with some awsome music(Temple of the Dog)..you are missed Andy, alongside with all the others taken from drugs..

I respect this band a ton, but I prefer both Green River and Pearl Jam. Like others have said, Mother Love Bone embraced the "glam metal" just a bit too much for me.
There were many pioneers of grunge, even outside the Seattle scene. If someone asked me where the seeds of Grunge began, I would say Black Sabbath's "Master of Reality".
Black Flag's "My War" was also a big influence on Seattle bands. Nirvana just brought something to the mainstream that was happening for a long time. I don't hate on Nirvana though, because they were a good band, but they took a lot from early Soundgarden, Melvins, Mudhoney, Green River etc to get their "original" sound.
Really, in my eyes, Nirvana were the Metallica of 90's and the grunge scene. They didn't do it first, and they most certaintly didn't do it better. They just caught the eye of the general public and were blown into "The" band.
I'm a stardog champion...........ufff what an imponent song and Andy Wood was the most under rated singer in rock story, his voice it's amazing....he rocks in heaven...
I like this. you can hear where MLB is crossing that fine line, at the time between hair-metal rock and the new Seattle sound. There's still much of the metal swagger, but different somehow. I find it interesting how quickly hair-metal and butt-rock died and their fans seemed to fucking disappear overnight...making room for the more punk-influenced/art-damaged sound from Seattle.
@plusgloss I have a theory about this. If the so called “grunge” thing as we know it hadn’t exploded, then glam would have had to grow up and evolve. Were Mother Love Bone the heralds of ‘grunge’ or the grown-up glam that might’ve happened instead if Andrew Wood had lived? We’ll never know.
@JoannaoftheZee interesting theory. I am always trying to figure out why metal died so quickly. why the fans went away overnight. metal is dumb, but it still seems so fast. immaturity, perhaps. MLB could be the "not-so-missing-link" between glam/hair-metal and grunge. lots of folks made careers on the back of that. Andrew Wood is a fascinating rock and roll figure. he embodies all the dreams we have as kids growing up it seems. too bad it went so tragic and senseless.
@plusgloss Yeah, I agree. If grunge hadn't gotten so big, we might have seen a more 'evolved' and intelligent glam or sorta-glam come through in its place. One with better musicality and lyrics that went deeper than just partying and strippers. Bands like Jane's Addiction and MLB and the Nymphs seemed to indicate the way the wind was blowing pre-Nirvana.
Scary thought: if MLB had gotten huge instead of Nirvana, would Courtney Love have thrown herself at Andy Wood instead of Kurt?
@JoannaoftheZee that cunt-piece-of-shit COURTNEY LOVE would have exploited whomever or whatever she had to in order to attain somebody else's wealth. She is an asshole and a no-talent. She just happened to be around when "douche was chic".
@Joanna:With many old glammers still plugging way at the same old thing in any willing venue, I'd say not much evolution'd occur in any case. General rule is that musicians do their best work at the beginning of their success. Improvement, evolution, maturing, (in a positive sense)? It happens, but rarely. That's why musicians who die young are so loved: They never got a chance to suck. / Andy lived? MLB's huge? Courtney attaches herself?: Andy dies,1 or 2yrs later than in reality, @the most.
@tangyzesty ok using ur logic isnt it possible that by going out and making music some producer etc will decide to make ur music the next big thing. WTF "bands dont form organically anymore" thats just a bullshit statement . As for attitude problems i think its just to many people have the same attitiude as u with there heads stuck in the past and up their own assholes . But i guess u just cant understand that unless u lived in the present with me instead of the world of ur rectum .
I remember when I used to see all the NW greats in the 90's......beautiful. Who would have thunk they would have acheived superstar staus??? They just rocked....locally
Very true. I still catch shit online from Nirvana fans outside Seattle who refuse to believe their heroes, pre-Nevermind, were never hometown "superstars" equal to the level of Mudhoney, Soundgarden and Mother Love Bone. Still not sure why the national press had such a hard-on for that band in 1991, but, it was never like that locally before then.
@Fakename70 As a Nirvana fan outside of Seattle, I think most of us are very aware of that, and that Nirvana did not do anything Mudhoney didn't do first. And if we are a fan of the scene, know that MLB was supposed to be it's Nirvana. They just got famous first and quick, and I think a lot of that has to do with their tour and support from Sonic Youth. In my opinion anyway.
I don't think Mudhoney has ever gotten enough credit outside of Seattle and the U.K. for having "done it first", though. But, you're so right about the SY influence though. That, and The Year Punk Broke helped that band tremendously.
man im sick of people bitching about how the 90's was the last great decade of music and how they wish they could go back. shut the fuck up. you cant go back so instead of whining go out and start working on making sick music for the future. by all means look to the past for inspiration but then drag the past into the present and then kick that fucker into the future. see what happens

@ScreamingTree3000 I HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS I was looking at itunes rock charts They have an album that was just released on july 19 called " melodies& Dreams"- Andrew Wood But here is the bad news the sound quality is crappy and andy Doesnt sound very good due to the quality. But When I was Previewing the album I found a good couple of songs, "MY Star" To Praise it's Name" and the people review the album saying they didnt know who he was, weLL thats dumb CUZ IM FUCKING 14 AND KNOW WHO HE WAS! LOL
This video should have many more views... People today just like shit like Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga... Thumbs up if you're gonna watch this video every day, so we can beat the number of views of the Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga's videos :)
they came out same time as alice and pj, and mlb was formed by people from malfunkshun, green river, skin yard, and ten minute warning - all early grunge bands
this does not sound like alice or pj, alice and pj sound like this
they did not come out at the same time as pearl jam. when mother love bone's lead singer died the band was helped by then soundgarden's singer chris cornell. they started the band temple of the dog, who's notable single was "hunger strike" (I DON MIIINNND STEALIN BREAD, and so on). they later became pearl jam, and cornell went back to soundgarden.
Mark Arm is like Kieth Richards probably gonna open for the main Band playing armagedon. Monkeywrench just dropped a new CD and Mudhoney Has a couple dates next month before summer European tour
Andy.... you were a doll too cute to last I guess. Great times & great music. Going out to the Seattle to clubs in the 80's/90's was a blast! I can feel the energy in all these old video's! Thanks guy's!
@GRRJayyy yeah it's wrong...I hate Nirvana but they were a big part of the grunge scene...besides wood/cornell/cobain/vedder/staley/arm etc... all sound different...they have a different crunch...you can't compare one to the other...granted we wouldnt have PJ today if Wood didn't pass but still...
@GRRJayyy Yes it is ...Pretty much go Fuck yourself Asshole.It's just as easy to say You prefer Eddie.I don't have anything against Eddie but i certainly take offense to you dissing Andrew.Have some respect for a young man who contributed greatly to a monster music scene that raged for a decade with pretty much Zero kickback because he literally passed as their album was released.I was here in Seattle then and it was fucking Magic.Grunge took a huge loss with the passing of Andrew.That help?
@bentleyabc I am a new Mother Love Bone fan. ^.^ It started with Pearl Jam and Nirvana as a little kid, then I got older and looked deeper into the scene's music. There hasn't been a grunge band I've heard that I didn't like.
Soundgarden was formed, recording and signed to a label first...but it was Chris Cornell's roomate Andy Wood (then known as Landrew the Love Child) joining the guitarists from the band Green River to form Mother Love Bone that exploded Seattle into the whole grunge phenomenon!
@yojimbo2002 respectfully..one little correction.. it was actually 3 bands that formed Mother Love Bone Green River, Malfunkshun, and 10 Minute Warning.
Malfunkshun being Andrews band with his brothers Landrew the Love Child.. THUNDARR and KEVINSTEIN. Andy always believed in the power of 3..thats why I wanted to mention that M.L.B. was formed from 3 bands. :)
this song is about the star Sirius...... andrew wood was into some heavy esoteric stuff in case none of you ppl knew that. sirius is known as the "dog star"
@CCRockit THANK YOU~! Thats what I was going to say... ITS LOVE ROCK PEOPLE~! Not GRUNGE..ALTERNATIVE...or anything else... Its in a category of its own~!
it's rock period stop labeling music that's what the store's and the record company's do it dosen't matter what everybody think's it's rock n roll and that's what it as always been meant to be
You sure you have your timeline straight? Chris and Susan weren't living with Andy when he died, if he ever lived with her at all. He was living with Xana at the Marqueen when he OD'd. She's the one who found him, remember?
21 years....21 years... since we lost the man of golden words...the stargazer...the half ass monkey boy.....21 years L'Andrew........Andrew Wood 1966-1990....RIP ...Stardog Champion...Love rock awaits you!!

metalgod1967 8 months ago
They could have made it big. It's a shame Wood had to die. There truly is no justice in the world, is there?
HardcoreGamer4Ever 8 months ago
if you didnt know, i'd say this sounds more like an alice in chains precursor than pearl jam
umumgot 8 months ago
@umumgot
they came out same time as alice and pj, and mlb was formed by people from malfunkshun, green river, skin yard, and ten minute warning - all early grunge bands
this does not sound like alice or pj, alice and pj sound like this
xnmxcowboyxnmx 8 months ago
@xnmxcowboyxnmx
they did not come out at the same time as pearl jam. when mother love bone's lead singer died the band was helped by then soundgarden's singer chris cornell. they started the band temple of the dog, who's notable single was "hunger strike" (I DON MIIINNND STEALIN BREAD, and so on). they later became pearl jam, and cornell went back to soundgarden.
jimmyjonesjuniorfive 8 months ago
@xnmxcowboyxnmx isnt that basically what i said? i said it sounds more like a PRECURSOR to aic than pj, not this sounds like alice in chains, dick

At the beginning it reminds me of AIC style of playing in Facelift

is it bad to say i'm glad Andrew wood died because he is nothing compared to Eddie Vedder ?
GRRJayyy 9 months ago
@GRRJayyy yeah it's wrong...I hate Nirvana but they were a big part of the grunge scene...besides wood/cornell/cobain/vedder/staley/arm etc... all sound different...they have a different crunch...you can't compare one to the other...granted we wouldnt have PJ today if Wood didn't pass but still...
blake50785 9 months ago
@blake50785 very true.. nothing beats grunge, but mother love bone still had time to release songs before PJ so it all worked out quite nicely ;)
GRRJayyy 9 months ago
@GRRJayyy Yes it is ...Pretty much go Fuck yourself Asshole.It's just as easy to say You prefer Eddie.I don't have anything against Eddie but i certainly take offense to you dissing Andrew.Have some respect for a young man who contributed greatly to a monster music scene that raged for a decade with pretty much Zero kickback because he literally passed as their album was released.I was here in Seattle then and it was fucking Magic.Grunge took a huge loss with the passing of Andrew.That help?
LutherRayable 4 months ago
@LutherRayable thats a fair point, i just love eddie vedder too much, he's made himself a servant to music in a way no other man has

Im blown away to see NEW Mother Love Bone fans... THATS AWESOME~!
bentleyabc 9 months ago 4
@bentleyabc I am a new Mother Love Bone fan. ^.^ It started with Pearl Jam and Nirvana as a little kid, then I got older and looked deeper into the scene's music. There hasn't been a grunge band I've heard that I didn't like.

What ever Mother Love Bone started the whole Seattle scene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
739Rangekid 9 months ago
@739Rangekid soundgarden existed four years before mother love bone tard
ippiman 9 months ago
@739Rangekid
Soundgarden was formed, recording and signed to a label first...but it was Chris Cornell's roomate Andy Wood (then known as Landrew the Love Child) joining the guitarists from the band Green River to form Mother Love Bone that exploded Seattle into the whole grunge phenomenon!
yojimbo2002 9 months ago 2
@yojimbo2002 respectfully..one little correction.. it was actually 3 bands that formed Mother Love Bone Green River, Malfunkshun, and 10 Minute Warning.
Malfunkshun being Andrews band with his brothers Landrew the Love Child.. THUNDARR and KEVINSTEIN. Andy always believed in the power of 3..thats why I wanted to mention that M.L.B. was formed from 3 bands. :)
bentleyabc 9 months ago
this song is about the star Sirius...... andrew wood was into some heavy esoteric stuff in case none of you ppl knew that. sirius is known as the "dog star"
freakoutguitarsolo1 9 months ago
I believe Andy used to refer to this as love rock.
there now stop the pointless debates.
CCRockit 9 months ago 2
@CCRockit THANK YOU~! Thats what I was going to say... ITS LOVE ROCK PEOPLE~! Not GRUNGE..ALTERNATIVE...or anything else... Its in a category of its own~!
bentleyabc 9 months ago
@bentleyabc
Kinda like Led Zeppelin or Soundgarden, they're in a genre of their own.
CCRockit 9 months ago
@bentleyabc It's grunge... love rock ..LMAO and Soundgraden was grunge too. Nothing wrong with saying that. It's a pacific north west thing.
HanoverFist247 9 months ago
@CCRockit
Andy always talked about introducing the world to "love rock" but he never defined it to anyone but the music speaks for itself.

@TxInMyBlood Chris's wife/manager was living with them also--sadly they were the ones who found Andrew, passed WAY too soon like many of these guys!

@jendamoe
You sure you have your timeline straight? Chris and Susan weren't living with Andy when he died, if he ever lived with her at all. He was living with Xana at the Marqueen when he OD'd. She's the one who found him, remember?
