The sad thing about djent...and this, is that vocals just...suck...why don't they have singers like Dio, Ian Gillan, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford or so...
Check out this band's singer Mikee Goodman's new project with Iron Maiden's Adrian Smith called Primal Rock Rebellion. It also has SikTh member Dan Foord on Drums.
Their first single is on my profile, and it kicks ass :)
I was in HMV this afternoon and there I saw "Death of a Dead Day" and I immediately snatched it up OMFG. I've been looking for it for over a year and I was told they weren't been printed but to see it today made my year.
from sikth, i got into the fall of troy, then blakfish, then iwrestledabearonce, then dance gavin dance, then this town needs guns, modern american theatre, the speed of sound in seawater, trapped in kansas ...and a part of me is like, "well, how the fuck did that happen?" but mostly, i think the word "math" saved my musical life. and i couldn't generally care less about genres.
can`t get into my mind what level of proficiency and quality (I don`t mean the 240p now lol) can be discovered in some gems of the underground. This band is UNBELIEVABLY good.
@XpEAnUTBuTtERsUckSX thats really a bold statement to say in fact if you knew anything about music you would know that in terms of difficulty both bands are up there. saying one is harder then the other shows your ignorance. I love AAL, but sikth is more unique and therefore better in my book. and his name is Tosin.
@XpEAnUTBuTtERsUckSX In all honesty, it's tech metal/mathcore. They're bound to run over some sort of generic twists. But they, in no way, carry a heavy generic weight.
@f1endslayer yeah. i dont really know about meshuggah so much but the main riffs are very bulb-ish stuff and all the clean (clean vocals) parts and clean break downs are SUCH tessie sorta thing. sikth was formed in 98 and bulb was doing his thing starting in -02-03 so i guess there is a chance he was influenced by this but i really do feel like the guys from tessie, this is one of their huge influences but im not them, so i dont know.
ya the world may be dark and brutal and ya life ain't easy but dissent mean shit it will get worse and worse because people don't what to do shit about it and that's how the world fucken work's is because people fucken sit around and do nothing for someone else besides them self's and we look at one ever day we turn on the tv
i saw these guys just b4 the split after this album at the cockpit in leeds, i was so geared up to see them n when i saw them, i was so miffed, pissed off n let down :( they eezed trouble in the camp, sutch a shame, my bro introduced me to their demo b4 the 1st album n i was hooked, but to watch six guys on stage with no chemistry, n a crowd that only wanted to hear the 1st album really gutted me! sutch a shame, an awsome band, jus wish they wuda stuck to the sound of the 1st album. R.I.P :(
@HateLoveLive Yes. I do. Metalcore is sick as hell. It's funny how the "true metal" fans don't understand that yet. You guys will catch up eventually ;)
@qpstrafe metalcore is alright, musically and technically though its lackluster. this is so far ahead of any metalcore band I ever heard. and the screams are very creative and interesting where as metalcore is the tried and over done long growls/screams which become boring after a minute. if you like metalcore thats fine, I enjoy it every now and then but dont go bashing this band please.
@IGNsucks I didn't bash it. I said the chorus was really good, but screams weren't, and after listening to it again the screams aren't as bad as I originally thought.
I have never found any band that can come close to the sheer brilliance that this track conveys. No one else can match this sound or vocal style and its uniqueness just stands out <3

@dahudge14 well dude the whole point of progressive metal is to move on from one idea to the next. so expanding on one idea really wouldnt be progressive would it and besides the reason you like the part you like is because its short, more of the same would just down grade it.
No way dude. I wish there was more of it because it sounded really great, and it's one of the only parts of the song that is really truly outside of the progression, the rest is kind of like your standard build of a song (verse, chorus, bridge, etc). @killallwasps Dude scrillious is there best album! I liked kieza the most before, fortress was really close tho, but scrilliuos is a new level of sick haha
oh boy, this still gets me tearin' up no end. what a band. imagine what they would have sounded like now if they'd never broken up? fuck knows. i bet metal on the whole would be different though coz these guys would be making everyone else look bad. i mean they do NOW and DOADD was 5 years ago...
As much as I love Meshuggah's rhytmically complexity/layering I wish they had found a way to incoperate melodic lines in the vocals. Singing tis awesome when done properly (I can totally imagine James Maynard Keenan doing a tune with Meshuggah). That's why i like this band, they mesh the tonal with the atonal. To me that the next step in metal.
@BIoodrunk Nobody else sounds like Sikth. Try checking out some of the bands on Basick Records. Also look into the band Aliases (ex members of Sikth) Happy hunting.
@BIoodrunk Um.. I heard about this band from the band Architects, but they don't sound much like these guys. Maybe.. Children of Bodom is something you would like? Or SikTh and Aliases. SikTh isn't really doing anything, and I just found about about Aliases too.
@CanWeAllDream The closest I've heard are The Arusha Accord. Still nowhere near as good but they have a similar style. Also some Cyclamen stuff. And just incase anybody hasn't heard Pin's new band, Aliases, they should!
@CanWeAllDream There are a shit load of bands that now sound similar(ish) to Sikth. With the whole kick-off of the "djent" sound, basically coined by Meshuggah, bands are springing up all over the place trying to jump on the band-wagon.
TesseracT's demo was very good, then they got their new vocalist and they just sound exactly like every other djent band out there, great music but then fucking terrible whiny vocals. A real shame.
@SilenceSoSudden That's proper djent in my opinion, not any of this whiney emo kid vocal crap. Still, I lost interest in djent a while back when it turned into exactly what Tesseract have become, something for kids to turn up to and "crab" to or whatever the fuck it is that's called.
@Hamgammy Yes TesseracT looked to be really awesome at the beginning, with their original vocalist their early demo seemed impressive. Then the lineup changed and they became generic "djent" bullshit.
@fsbfsbfsbfsbfsbfsb id say they have the time signature similarity as well,not that there time signature are even remotely identical, but that they both use them,lol, but besides that, nothing but that they are both badass bands.
@Polyrthyawhut i think what you meant to say was that all music is based on time signatures.. all music and beats are used through time signature, time signature is the beat....... too bad you didnt realize that i was being sarcastic. their time signature change ups are used frequently and are based on alot of the less common time signatures. which basically means that they play alot of off beat sounding shit thats hard for most to keep up with. sorry for your confusion.
You're wrong again. A Time signature is not the beat, it defines the pulse. Doesn't even matter considering that bands like this don't even think in time signatures when writing riffs, its all groove and creativity.
You may want to learn something besides broken english in the future though.
@fsbfsbfsbfsbfsbfsb id say they have the time signature similarity as well,not that their time signatures are even remotely identical, but that they both use them,lol, but besides that, nothing but that they are both badass bands.
Wow. All this discussion of theory and no one seems to know the fucking answer. I haven't even looked at the notes or tried to play the song, but it doesn't even matter. It all comes down to what key the song is in. Use the circle of fifths and figure it out!
the guys that recorded, mixed and mastered this song are geniuses. this has to be one of the best mixes in metal today. every instrument is balanced perfectly.
@SASchertz I wonder what Meshuggah are thinking to. So many band use djent style before Periphery, and rly, i think periphery is not rly djent, only prog 8string metal (well, its consider djent, but imo not rly :P). Real Djent imo are bands like Fellsilent, Tesseract, Vildhjarta and many other band.
The sad thing about djent...and this, is that vocals just...suck...why don't they have singers like Dio, Ian Gillan, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford or so...

@Hamgammy Yes TesseracT looked to be really awesome at the beginning, with their original vocalist their early demo seemed impressive. Then the lineup changed and they became generic "djent" bullshit.

@CanWeAllDream Vortice, Sybreed..
CanadianBean28 8 months ago
@CanadianBean28 You think Sybreed sounds like Sikth? The only similarity I can think of is that they both have an S in their band name...
fsbfsbfsbfsbfsbfsb 7 months ago
@fsbfsbfsbfsbfsbfsb id say they have the time signature similarity as well,not that there time signature are even remotely identical, but that they both use them,lol, but besides that, nothing but that they are both badass bands.
glnorris 7 months ago
@glnorris ..Every musician uses time signatures. What you said makes zero sense.
Polyrthyawhut 7 months ago
@Polyrthyawhut i think what you meant to say was that all music is based on time signatures.. all music and beats are used through time signature, time signature is the beat....... too bad you didnt realize that i was being sarcastic. their time signature change ups are used frequently and are based on alot of the less common time signatures. which basically means that they play alot of off beat sounding shit thats hard for most to keep up with. sorry for your confusion.
glnorris 6 months ago
You're wrong again. A Time signature is not the beat, it defines the pulse. Doesn't even matter considering that bands like this don't even think in time signatures when writing riffs, its all groove and creativity.
You may want to learn something besides broken english in the future though.

@CanWeAllDream periphery has a similar sound, or at least the same kind of sound production
9al9ola 6 months ago
@CanWeAllDream try architects to the death!
But it's normal if none of those bands sounds similar, it's not the same genre!
Protest the Hero==> progressive metal/metalcore
Meshuggah ==> progressive metal ( djent )
TesseracT ==> Djent ( a little) and progressive metal ( too melodic for me )
Silkth is Mathcore ( Math rock + metalcore/hardcore ) it's one of the best known mathcore bands but u can find a lot of bands in thsi style!

Wow. All this discussion of theory and no one seems to know the fucking answer. I haven't even looked at the notes or tried to play the song, but it doesn't even matter. It all comes down to what key the song is in. Use the circle of fifths and figure it out!
Chyanide 9 months ago
the guys that recorded, mixed and mastered this song are geniuses. this has to be one of the best mixes in metal today. every instrument is balanced perfectly.

I wonder if sikth gets annoyed when they hear periphery created djent....
SASchertz 10 months ago
@SASchertz
Hahaha probably. Though, I will give Periphery the fact that they made it a pretty huge thing (djent) in a short period of time.
TheDjTransition 10 months ago
@SASchertz I wonder what Meshuggah are thinking to. So many band use djent style before Periphery, and rly, i think periphery is not rly djent, only prog 8string metal (well, its consider djent, but imo not rly :P). Real Djent imo are bands like Fellsilent, Tesseract, Vildhjarta and many other band.
