I'm watching this stuff because I am a music teacher, and thus I come in cotact with alot of people each day. I recently found out one of my students is on nitro for a heart condition and it made me think that I need to know a little about emergency first aid, so I have one question, is the patient usually in any pain afterwards and is holding them and cradling their head all you can do to make them comfortable until help arrives?
Everyone is slightly different when they have seizures and my advice would be to ensure they are in a safe place, away from anything that could harm them while they are thrashing about, if possible put them in the recovery position or at least their head to the side (if its not in spasm) to avoid choking on saliva. Comfort and privacy are always good and call an ambulance once they are safe. Its great that you are finding out about this stuff .. well done !!
@Maestrp37388 My niece has seizures and Im trying to learn as much as I can about her condition. They usually arent in any pain and only cradling their head and comfort words are the only thing you can do when a person is having a seizure. If it's not a spasm--then place them on their side -make sure there's no music or no noise around. After the seizure is over the person could be reeally sleepy or go to sleep right away.
@KaiserVadin He is asleep when the seizure starts and is unconcious during the seizure and afterwards he comes round for a minute or so and then falls back to sleep.
@Jaxxon10 Yes he is still alive, the seizures don't kill him they are just bursts of electricity in the brain that he has every day and he recovers afterwards and is just usually left a bit sleepy.
My daughter has mito and seizes like this pretty regularly. I agree with you that I'd rather have people know and be informed rather than just assume things about my child.
He has an undiagnosed neurological disease. Possibly metabolic and possibly de-generative although he has remained stable for 3 years, thank goodness. He can't walk, talk, see, has no muscle tone so can't sit or hold his head but is still a happy, content and healthy boy. The epilepsy is def. the worst part of his condition. Great to hear you are educating yourself for your niece's sake, thats really lovely! If you have any epilepsy questions, feel free to ask, I've seen the lot ! Take care
@abovell Thank you for your message. My niece has Mitochondrial Disease-she has low muscle tone-issues with fine and gross motor skill-and some sort of learning disability- doctors still DONTt know his she'll be at the same level as her peers, or not- Which is a bit frustrating - however just like your son epilepsy is the worst part for her condition. She's a happy child-she's 4 1/2 HAPPY girl. My fear is not recognizing when she has ONE! She's got many kinds!
They think Nathan's cond. is prob mito. too but can't define it. He is very severely affected though, sounds like your niece is much less so. He has so many szs that we don't worry too much about each one, just the big ones and also his never really need treatment so we're lucky in that way (so far). I really hope things work out for your little niece .. keep up the good work x
I'm in nursing school and I'm studying neurological illness right now. Thanks for posting this video; it helps me to visualize and understand what I might see in a clinical setting. My heart goes out to you and your family.

On January 29, 2010 the medicine LamictalXR was approved for generalized tonic-clonic seizures in kids 13 years+ (medicine is also approved for partial onset seizures). This is really good news. The Wall Street Journal and many other news sources ran this news. Do a Google search for this news to read about how it can help families through these tough experiences. (YouTube will not accept a URL to share the news).
I am a medical student currently taking a neurology course. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for sharing. May God bless Nathan and you, his courageous parents.

I am unconscious during a seizure, have no signs warning me when one is going to happen and I have no memory during the recovery period afterwards which can be 10-15mins. I've been sitting on the sofa at the beginning and still sitting there when my conscious comes back. Only knowing that I had a tonic clonic via clues such as the headache I always have after which has a unique feeling from other headaches, disorientation, drowsyness and other such signs.
I would rather people ask like you have than be ignorant and not understand epilepsy, so thank you!
I have not had a seizure myself but I have been told that they do not hurt and that you are not aware you have had one (although there are different types and they vary a lot). Sometimes if they hurt themselves when falling or bite their lip then obviously that hurts but the seizure itself doesn't. Type in epilepsy on google and you will learn more. thanks
I am epileptic, and have seizures up to 15 a year, but I was wondering, are some people completely aware of themselves having a seizure, even if it is a grand mal?
God bless you Nathan and Nathan's Mom. He is so beautiful. I hate the helpless feeling of watching your child go through this. You just want to kiss the boo boo away, but you can't.
Hi, he has a tube in his stomach (gastrostomy) so that we can feed him directly into his stomach rather than via his mouth. Due to his muscles not working well, if he swallows food and drink can enter his ait pipe and choke him. It allows us to keep him nourished and prolong his life too. It has been a god send.
omg i am crying how sad to these type of children like this. Why do people have to be sick it is not fair for them they want to be like regular people but they can't becuz god has to create them with some stupid seizure and they want to live normal but they can't omg this just touch me so hard with anger i just hate it y some people have to be born with sickeness it is just not fair :''( when they grow up what r other ppl going to think of them, they want to be normal jesus help these people plz

I stumbled upon your videos today while just browsing.
First, let me say that you all have a beautiful son, and are truly blessed.

i will pray for your child when i go to chapel, i hope he gets better some day soon. it kills me to see his pain thankyou for sharing this video , it makes me realize how unfair life can be to people... god bless you and your family and especially your precious son.
Nathan is almost 4 now, unfortunately he shows no sign of growing out of his seizures. He has an underlying metabolic condition so it is unlikely he every will. He is very brave and content though so we will get through it. Sorry to hear about your absence's, epilepsy is such a mystery and horrible condition to have. Take care
No he did not swear, the seizures have left him with severe brain damage and he is unable to speak (it would be a miracle if he could say the F word to be honest!!) he goes very stiff during the seizure and can not breathe then tries to get air in through the spasm and it sounds like he is snoring.
Thanks for posting this knowing that some people will not understand. We are dealing with a 2 year old having terrible seizures..he went code blue in the hospital this morning during a seizure...they have no idea why or what kind of seizure, they only know that hes having more than one kind at the same time. thanks again for posting this and helping in my search for answers. Good luck to your son and your family..I know its hard and nerve racking..God Bless...
I'm glad that you found Nathan's video of some use. Over the last 3 years he has had just about every type of seizure there is, he used to go very blue and its horrible, I know what you are going through. I hope they get some answers soon and some effective treatment. I would suggest you join an epilepsy support group, its been my saviour. I am on parents of kids with epilepsy (pokwe uk). good luck with your son and god bless x

Marshie338, you said everything I wanted to say. Sadly, "You Tube" is dominated by immature young people who think it's entertainment only, rather than a vehicle to exchange and share information. How and why they end up watching a topic like this, is hard to understand. But they show up everywhere, and can't help themselves from leaving their silly, inane, juvenile comments - complete with first-grade grammar and spelling. Anyway... Thanks to the parents for sharing this experience with us.
This video made me so sad - and some of the comments, even sadder. This gorgeous boy is special and he is brave. Thank you for posting this video. It is educational to those who want and need to learn more and inspiring to those with, and dealing with Epilepsy. I hope that he gets better soon, truly.
shut the fuck up No1chelseafanx... don't go making comments about the video to take it off... this poor little boy deals with having seizures everyday... he is extremely brave... so just because it makes u feel better to make negative comments like ---> "omg!take dis off plz" then just don't watch the video in the first place...
how dumb are you... really??? did u even read the description of this video... obviously not... it explains everthing there... think before u comment again No1chelseafanx.....
The nasty comments about this video defy belief. To see someone you love so much struggle with seizures is the most harrowing experience. The fact that there are over 35 different seizure type and the uneducated only know of 2 of those types, it is a necessity to show the differing types in the hope that correct diagnosis is made sooner rather than later. Well done for having the guts to show this, love and hugs to Nathan and his family for being so brave. Love Vix
Hey gorgeous bloke. We just got back from hospital. Lewis had a tonic clonic today, frightened the insides out of his daddy! We ended up going to hospital in an ambulance as it lasted for 6 minutes, they think its because of his infected PEG. Love you babe, see you 2 weeks today wahey! xxx

Love you babe, see you 2 weeks today wahey! xxx
