Now don't get me wrong, I love this song. It's a beautiful look back but idealism shouldn't blind you to reality. The reality is no time period is perfect. Not the 50s or the 40s or any decade of the 20th century. If you value something from the past like chivalry then do your best to keep it alive in how you act but we all need to make the best out of our own time and realize that the sky isn't falling. Things aren't nearly as bad now as they were in the past and humanity has come a long way.
Look nostalgia is nice but every era has its problems. People think this time is more messed up and crazy than it's ever been? Go back to the 70s and you had the gas crisis and Iranian hostage situation. Go back to the 60s and you had a time when women and racial minorities were struggling just to be equal. Go back to the 50s and you're in the grip of McCarthyism where people were terrified of atomic war with the USSR, and in the 1940s besides WWII it was still acceptable to lynch black people.
Yes, the legendary fallout 3 brought me here, which i still occasionally play, but when I hear this song, it relaxes me, and makes me feel goood... and it makes me want to trek through the d.c ruins in fallout 3 :D
This song reminds me of fallout 3. By far the most fun and memorable game I have ever played. Largly due to the songs and me and my best friend always talking about it. He died last year. These songs always remind me of the happy times.
i love this kind of music and i am 23years old, i listen to all kind of music. But this were the best singers, no computer and other high tech to change his voice or anything
back then wouldn't being black basically make it impossible for you to become a singer? or be considered lower class and cannot mix to be friends with whites? no offence intended tho, 1 of my mates is black.
@11haythem black musicians were actually KIND OF respected back then, considering there was more black bands than white bands in the 1930's ...just like how there was Jewish musicians in Nazi Germany...They were respected because they made good music. nothing more, nothing less.
@11haythem They erased lines and made people forget about the color of skin when the listeners realized these singers were making songs that defined how people (white & black) felt about certain things. I wasn't alive back then but I'd figure it was hard for black people to gain success but they were too good to be held down, which is great cause if not for them we probably would've never had most musicians/artists we love today if they hadn't given the music industry life.
I love this era. Sure, fallout brought me here, but I was captivated the moment I heard the song on the radio. :D makes my heart swell and brings a tear to my eye. Back in the day when everything was easy and perfect... it was about courting a girl, not hitting it and quitting it.. Back when cars were cars and not engine powered plastic airbag launchers.. idk. Good times. :')
@Iraqnid2088 ...and don't forget, that this man's perfect pitch is due to talent, not enhanced software in the studio. This era was filled with brilliant voices and great talent.
@Iraqnid2088 Are you kidding me? Yes this is a great song...but you mean "back in the day" when racism and segregation was was tolerated in the U.S. When women were expected to be house wives. You might think looking back at it now it was "perfect" but it was not. I'm sure people 50 years from now will look back in the 2000-2020 and call it easy and perfect.
@czarmonger geez think a bit more positive... yeah there was WWII the was WWI before that as well there are wars now going about, but believe me people were more alive than now and exactly the wars and all that led people into creating such beautiful songs... because troughout the music they tried to keep their spirits unlike nowadays where there is no major war and people just get agressive with music creating all that emocore, black metal, death metal. music is more agressive nowadays
@Iraqnid2088 i hate to tell you... there never was perfection and there never will be, it'll only get worse and worse untill humans end ourselves and the planet entirely, the best time of the planet, was one before humans existed, when things were peaceful.
@TEHORANGEAVENGER well I mean dinosaurs also ate the hell out of eachother <.< and then those fast ones that ate the other dinosaurs' eggs are also pretty mean and hurtful D: I agree, there will never be "peace", but at the same time I believe this era was one where the American Dream was something everyone wanted, and it wasn't about celebrities and war and all this propaganda crap going on today. It was about the prosperity of the family and trying to earn an honest living. Legit living. :)
@Iraqnid2088 laws were titer than a leash, racism was so thick if you were the whitest man in the world and got a bit of soot on yourself you'd be catagorized as a lower class citizen and all that is concidered abuse now was dicipline, and what was abuse then is now murder
@mussleandclams Wow. You are so witty, mussleboundhams! The next time I need a retort, I'll certainly seek your advice prior to any comeback attempt. I never would have thought of telling someone they should have sexual intercourse with music - OMG, your past experiences must have led you to believe that others share your exotic erotic preferences - only with goats.

@VampirusRain Yeah that dude's white, it is not just you. Google is your friend.

@VampirusRain yeah i guess that's why they're called the ink spots. The white guy is the paper and the black guys are the ink. LOL.
