Now don't get me wrong, I love this song. It's a beautiful look back but idealism shouldn't blind you to reality. The reality is no time period is perfect. Not the 50s or the 40s or any decade of the 20th century. If you value something from the past like chivalry then do your best to keep it alive in how you act but we all need to make the best out of our own time and realize that the sky isn't falling. Things aren't nearly as bad now as they were in the past and humanity has come a long way.

Look nostalgia is nice but every era has its problems. People think this time is more messed up and crazy than it's ever been? Go back to the 70s and you had the gas crisis and Iranian hostage situation. Go back to the 60s and you had a time when women and racial minorities were struggling just to be equal. Go back to the 50s and you're in the grip of McCarthyism where people were terrified of atomic war with the USSR, and in the 1940s besides WWII it was still acceptable to lynch black people.
