all he means is that since the chord shapes are so similar in that your pinky and ring finger stay on the third fret (relative to capo of course), if you were to strum each chord just regularly, the subtle differences in the chords are lost. Therefore, you need to hit the bass notes (sixth and fifth strings in particular) with some gusto to create the effect of changing the chords in a way that sounds similar to how a left hand on a piano might do so as you sing or play along with the CD.

I Have no capo too but... I use my shoelace - I just knot it on 3rd fret ( but you need to make it very strong ) and it works like capo:))I always make it in this way:)

for me i listen to the song a few timessing along with it so you can get the tempo down. then just practice the guitar part by itself. then combine into one.

Be sure to watch part 2 for the performance. Take notes. Pause the video. But most of all dont be to hard on yourself. You sound frustrated! What do i say right at the outset. It is a "intermediate" song. So if you are starting out, all you are getting down is the basics, for a further assault later on.
