  • Hi, there is only one issue. I am confused about the strumming pattern during the chorus. is it the same as the normal one (down down down up down up) or does it differ? Cause I went to your site for tabs and the tabs said it was different. Please clear this up for me. Thanks!

    Ur a legend mate !!

  • thanks mate soooooo good best how to play i have seen

  • Thanks mate.! I finally got it.! the chords is not bad though. It's easy to learn everyone.! trust yourself, let your finger be free and do it's work.! all the best =)

  • You are great!! Thank you for the how to video--what would I have done without you!!

  • Great job teaching!

  • k i don't get what he means my "excentuating"

seems like he changes the strum pattern... can someone explain what he's doing 4:20

  • all he means is that since the chord shapes are so similar in that your pinky and ring finger stay on the third fret (relative to capo of course), if you were to strum each chord just regularly, the subtle differences in the chords are lost. Therefore, you need to hit the bass notes (sixth and fifth strings in particular) with some gusto to create the effect of changing the chords in a way that sounds similar to how a left hand on a piano might do so as you sing or play along with the CD.

  • I could not have said it any better myself. Please use my forums to help each other. That is right on the money! Remember, to mute the top 6 string when you use this (C) formation to slide down relative to the Capo. See my cover for the effect. Cheers. FF

  • thanks, I figured...

its kinda hard to strum the first few strings harder than the bottom two, you have to really be thinking about it, and changing "strumming hardness" throughout a strum is kinda hard.... but I got what he was trying to say at least, thanks.

  • woow thx.. love your voice =)

  • YO DOG! xD

    nice work :P

  • this tutorial was amazing. props

  • im a experienced player and would like to now if u know how to play dead as yesterday by black label. if u do would u make a vidio on how to play it on a 6 string

  • :D thats really cool, thankyou so much ^_^

  • i am a fan of yours Great guitar teaching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    helped me allot

  • hey, i'm a big fan of all your vids. I was wandering if you could explain the strumming in the chorus. That would be perfect.

  • yea i do the same i tie a pencil with the help of a shoe string and it works just fine...

  • Buy a capo you tight ass

  • mind ur buisness dude...

  • Know i just deleted this by BenoAUS as we keep things clean here:

Please see my comment on Viva La Vida Part 3 on this there not expensive. OKAY

    Keep the peace.

    :-) FF

  • very useful vid. sounds BEUTIFUL!

  • Thanks for your tabs!

    they helped aLOT =)

  • The verse sounds great but the chrous sounds a little strange.

  • ha ha ;)

  • i don't think he plays left handed...look at his shirt the words are backwards its like looking a mirror

  • i think he is looking at a mirror, cuz look at the sun its not soo bright..

  • I am so sick of this question honestly. I had a technical hitch when i started. This comes up ever three months!! Go to my front page and read under "requests notes and disclaimers".

    FF

  • ive never seen anyone play left handed...that's so cool

  • dude llook at jimmy hendrix, and kurt cobain, then talk about left handed:P

  • i haven't got a capo :(

  • I Have no capo too but... I use my shoelace - I just knot it on 3rd fret ( but you need to make it very strong ) and it works like capo:))I always make it in this way:)

    *sorry for my english

  • lolz, thats pretty smart. lolz gonna try that :P

  • Ok.. my last comment didn't post. Anyways.. I made my own capo out of rubberbands and a broken pencil. Thanks for the help because I too am a beginner and thanks to you I've got this song nearly down!!

  • Verry Nice, thank you...

  • Seriously, I just bought a capo because I finally just gave up...

  • Could you please do an guitar lesson on jack johnson-upside down?

  • Thanks Frank

Appreciate your efforts - guitar playing is getting much better - learning heaps from you

  • After watching this, you are officially the man. Cheers from the States.

  • we have the same capo! thats cool!

  • this guys the steve irwin of guitar ^^

    great lesson

  • lol i learned tht with a broken arm n wrist

  • hey buddy i';ve watched a lot of your vids and i gotta tell i've learned a lot from you. What i was wanderin is if you could teach the actual piano part on the guitar. You know the beginning melody. That is my favorite part of the whole song. Thanks a lot buddy.

  • Hi Frank, I have question about this song. Can we play it with Capo 1 instead, or in any other way to sing it a bit lower. Thanks. PS: you're doing a great job here. Thanks a lot.

  • Capo 1 is fine. Its just on the record, it is at capo 3 which means playing along with the song is easier to get the timing and tempo. Good Luck.

    FF

  • is it possible to play this song without any capo?

  • Uhm... I've got a tiny little problem... Well it's kind of a big problem ^^" I can't seem to keep the strum pattern going on when trying to sing along, I end up finding myself just strumming up and down or just down -.-"

Got any tips on how to overcome this issue?

  • for me i listen to the song a few timessing along with it so you can get the tempo down. then just practice the guitar part by itself. then combine into one.

really all it akes is practice and a will to learn

  • hey frank.just want to say wicked lesson, really picking it up. is the struming on the courus the same as the verse just struggling abit. cheers .

  • heyyy... thanks for the lesson you help so much... theres just one part thats causeing me some problems... in the courus i get the 1st 3 cords you play but the struming on the last two i cant figure out just wondering if you could help me out =]

    Thanks again =]

  • Are you serious about the guitar? I am not saying this not to be a smart ass. Discipline is king with the guitar. There is a tab link here, by clicking the above site in the "more info" button. Watch part 2 for performance video as well. Lastly dont forget to subscribe to keep up-to-date with happenings. Good Luck.

    FF

  • nice tutorial man your a bug help keep makinf vids

  • Hey Frank,

I get the down, down, down, up, down, up.

However when you add the picking part to the rhythm I get lost can you perhaps play it a bit slower for me. other than that I think I have the verse down pat.

Thanks man this video tutorial is great. :)

  • Aussie we rule

    too bad im from sydney

  • Ty ^_^

  • Frank, I need your help. I've practically never picked up a guitar in my entire life. (Sad, i know, considering the fact that there has always been a guitar in my house sitting in the corner)I dunno abt chords, G and what not. I'm a first timer to the extreme. What song would you recommend me playing and is it possible for me to learn the guitar relying on solely the internet? What are the things I need to play the guitar ( Eg: Guitar picks...)

(I'm using an Ibanez 627 vintage guitar)

    Thanks =)

  • lots of tutorials on here for lots of songs but got say yours was the clearest and easiest to follow.far too many seem to post 'tutorials'just to show off their own playin but to me it looks like you genuinely want to help people learn to play.thanks

  • thank you so much for posting this it is one of my favorite songs and i literally learned how to play it this way in this 8 minute lesson with about 5 extra minutes of practice!

  • Be sure to watch part 2 for the performance. Take notes. Pause the video. But most of all dont be to hard on yourself. You sound frustrated! What do i say right at the outset. It is a "intermediate" song. So if you are starting out, all you are getting down is the basics, for a further assault later on.

    Hang in there........:-)

    Cheers FF

  • when im watching this video it pisses me off because you're going to fast and i dont have enough time to take my hands off the guitar and press rewind 500 times!! plus you dont explain things well enough, you dont say what fret you put your fingers on

  • Thank you so much i 'm really new to this and also i adore this song. Thanks! Greetings from Greece!
