This was some of the last of Jerry's great shows. Just before the coma. Whats even better is I was there hearing this as it was recorded. I love this song. I really don't think Jerry was the same after the coma. I never saw another show after that. He wasn't the same.
@rufufus Maybe so but, his playing seem to go in a direction that I didn't care for as much. I believe the coma had a lot to do with that! I really didn't care for the music written after 1986.

@RolandWilder I was going to write something, but you did it for me. This is really a great version of this song. I've thought the same thing from time-to-time about the Dead and Willie Nelson. It would have been great. Next time.
Whats up with Bill Gates/Bob Weir shorts comments. The focus should be the music and that is what Jerry Gatcia is all about. As he says "Story teller is his job not to hear is voice" meaning the goal is the music and not the performer. RIP-JERRY!
@rowanpm It's been years since I've listened to the Grateful Dead, but I would say that THIS particular version of Terrapin is somewhat painful to watch, but saying the studio version is better kinda goes against what their music was about. The late 80s was not their best era. They caught a second wind in the early/mid 90s, but all in all, their peak was around the mid/late 70s. There are other versions of this song from other timeframes that blow this one & the studio version out of the water.
Also - I was at this show. But the best version I ever saw of it, though, was at Henry J. Kaiser Auditorium on Chinese New Year in '88 ('87? '89?), closely followed by Oakland Indoor on New Year's Eve. Stole my face.
@wolverine2244 Me too wolverine. Coming from Maryland, I was introduced to this song early in life (Terps love this one). This is a particularily good version that bobaji posted. Alot of people don't realize that this is actually Lady with a Fan playing into Terrapin. You might also like the Ramble on Rose 6-26-94 (another great version). Or perhaps Crazy Fingers. Or....... 50 of their other tunes for that matter! Inspiration!
@rmcknn thing is..... i was there. and i'm listening to the recording. it sounds great. try another version, or another show, or something. dis on the dead all you want, but you're gonna get called out on it. there are PLENTY of times the sound is bad, but this aint one of em, fool.

@Ecclesiastical7 i think someone probably told him after awhile to stop wearing them haha. "you've been wearing those shorts every show for the past 10 tours man"
