I think there is a lot of evidence in the movie that supports his story. If I had to guess, I would say he actually is from K-Pax. Just think of all those little hints:

- He can see UV-light

- His story doesn't contradict itself.

- He promised to take one person with him, and then one patient suddenly vanished

- He knew things about astophysics, that not even those scientist knew.

- At the precise time he anounced he would travel back to his home, the camera in his room suddenly went dark.

i think its more a case of it can go either way and it was intended for their to not be a wrong or right answr, it depends on the viewer and what they are willing to believe / how their imagination works, do they cling to logic or are they open to new ideas

All of you guys that really want to know the truth of the story, go read the K-PAX trilogy, and the K-PAX lV books. The first book (which this movie is about) isn't enough to know what really is happening with Robert Porter. By the 2nd book everything becomes clear. The books are amazing, I'd love a following movie done about the 2nd book which would tie the story up for those who didn't read the books yet. This movie was genius, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges where perfect together.

This is a really great movie. A couple of times through this, you lean towards the "alien" theory, and at other times, you lean towards the "psychology" of this movie. The film is made so you just never know what the true truth is that this movie presents. One truth that one can conclude tho, is the powerful messages and lessons taht this movie undoubtedly presents. Truly inspiring.

At the end the sun comes up, but we can see him under the bed, having some sort of concultions or something, but then after some time the doctors returns to the room and he wasnt there,Who knows if he was an alien? I love these Types of Films. This also resembles to the fact tht we canot be certain if there is something supernatural out there, i love these movies can u can never be sure of whts going on :)

It's really confusing to me, but you know ... you figure it out. He's in Roberts body, but his personality is Prot and stuff. Really ... yeah. Kevin Spacey should have definitely received a Best Actor nom.

Jeff Daniels should have gotten a Best Supporting Actor nom.

that body is Robert Porter, but it is Prot's spirit. Prot's in his body. Prot goes back to K-PAX. Porter asked for help, that's where Prot came in. Prot took control over Porter's body. That's why the rest of the Ward is like 'That's NOT Prot!' They knew, because Prot wasn't inside of Porter.

Was K-Pax never real, and Robert Porter went mentally ill after almost drowning and thought he was prot, and when the beaming didnt work he went catanoic?
