This is completely disgusting. I thought MY state's version of Academic Team was horrible (Missouri) this is just horrific. All the questions are reflexive! No thinking at all!! This format should be abolished. Ugh...NAQT is the only quiz format worth anything. Gross.

@Compwiz1993 You might think I'm being pretentious. Really I'm just frustrated with this system of horrible questions. DO NOT make the mistake that people here have any actual knowledge. Only in the PACE and NAQT style of questions is knowledge actually required, and unfortunately, these styles haven't been adopted by most states.

In short, this format should be done away with, it's completely unacademic and unintelligent.

@MEGAexistentialist These competitions deal with speed more than anything, and they "dumb down" the questions so they maintain an audience. I thought perhaps someone as successful in the PACE and NAQT format would understand, but I guess I was wrong. I've been on both this show (to the finals, in fact) and have competed with PACE and NAQT (at the national level at that), so I can understand your frustrations. But seriously, competing in the speed-oriented tournaments is just as enjoyable.

@MEGAexistentialist I object to your statement that It's Academic contestants do not "have any actual knowledge." I DO agree that you do not NEED knowledge for it, but intelligent students gravitate towards this kind of activity.

Some of the questions in the second round on this show were used on Saturday's (March 7) edition of "It's Academic" 's sister show here in Cleveland, "Academic Challenge". I wonder if the Altmans keep a permanent library of questions that are sometimes recycled among the markets where this show is broadcast.
