He did this trick with me when I was 11 and I know exactly how it worked. After the glass fogged over, from my end (my family told me it fogged on their side) it was still clear. They told me to cover my eyes, and then I felt the car sliding (on rails) sideways. Then I was backstage and they had me walk along a corridor and wait inbetween the downstairs seating and upstairs seating where no-one could see, and then he dropped down from the chandalier and took me back up to the stage.
I guess the smoke is there to help cover that the glitter stuff in the background is being moved by the car. But I think you can see it move a little.

I got to be in this trick when I was like 6! I got to walk backstage with his hot assistant. LOL! It was awesome. Never gonna forget it.
