@luigiruleztheworld You might know this already (since this comment was posted 4 months ago lol) but there is a 64 HM for girls, but it's only available in Japan. ;~;
why all harvest moon winter themes makes me so sad?it makes "remember" of a better childhood that couldnt even exist.like a perfect past.SHIT THIS IS CRAZY
I like this game a lot my second favorite to this one is Magical Melody because it brings together the characters we grew to love in this game and all the games that came before or after it. All of them trying to outwork each other. I really find the later games disappointing that your wife won't work for you on your farm like in this one. Makes the whole thing seem pointless if they won't help you.
This was always my favorite song. I love this game, still play to this day. I always feel bad when I get married to a girl cause I think I'll make the other guy jealous or something XD
@zoomshinysnail From what I remember nobody holds a grudge in this game... I think I stole one of the girls away right before the "rival" would have married her. In real life he'd probably be pretty pissed off, but I don't think there was any change in him at all. Guess they didn't want to put jealous love triangles in a game kids would play.
@zoomshinysnail actually, if you marry Ann, Cliff does leave the village. All the other guys are understanding, though. Jeff and Harris encourage you if you tell them that you love Elli/Maria. So unless you're marrying Ann, there's nothing to worry about.
@zoomshinysnail I end up feeling bad for all the women in the game because of who they end up with ahahahha. ^^ I mean that mail man looks like he is a killer. hahhahaha.
This song reminds me a lot of a song I had to sing in elementary school chorus. It's been way to long, and I forget the name of the song. I think it was candlelight cannon, and I swore that this was the song, minus the lyrics. I wished I taped this song and played it for my music teacher so she could tell me if it was or not.
i think this is the season cliff always leaves, rite? I remember when i played i wuz always so sad that he left. and the music doesnt make it any better, dont get me wrong. its just beautiful and sad...but gray is better than cliff. *huggles gray* lol
Love harvest moon, Harvest moon 64 was the first HM game I played, and it always has been my favorite... mainly because there are so many thing to explore... I guess the Friend of Mineral towns series is like the last TRUE harvest moon game, the others such as AWL, just doesn't have that old feel anymore. Man I wish they remake HM 64
@Tommy12435 Aside from the side stuff, ToT is quite true to harvest moon, I've gotten one plot point, and I'm not going to finish the 'story' because I don't play HM for that. I'm waiting for Hero of Leaf Valley on the PSP, a mostly true HM game on the psp that isn't a spinoff or port.
Love this song and its a amazing game. This was my first N64 game and I was simply shocked at how great and fun this game was the replayability is magnificiant in this game, theres much to do even after completion theres different paths you can take, different ways to earn your money and farm endless possibilitys.
This is a wonderfull song, thanks for uploading :) Its very fun / sad to play this on guitar aswell. A clean guitar and a decent player (not 10 year old noobs who think they are rock masters) and play that clean and good.. Made me cry.... Wish i had 4 hands and 2 guitar though, to play both part..
The characters were the best in Harvest Moon 64, they had a ton of development and random events, and they didn't feel like they were robots as in later Harvest Moons.
I never got to play BTN but I DID play Friends of Mineral Town, which was nearly the same thing. I didn't even play 64 first, but going from FOMT to 64, I could tell the difference.
BTN/FOMT just seemed like they put all the 64 characters in a hat, shook it, and then tossed them on the floor to decide the families and bachelors.
i remember playing this game. my dad gave it to me as a birthday present and when winter [in usa] finally came, i kept humming to the hymn. its just so cool and i can really feel Winter.
I remember playing this game when it first came out. When I finally got to Winter, it was so cold outside. This theme is perfect for that cold, dark, Winter feel.
This is my favorite HM game. =3 It was also my first personal 64 game I owned. All the others I played belonged to my brother. Haha.
Even though I was a bit young for the game, I loved to play it. Even if I was full of fail by the end of the story line. "Well, it doesn't seem like he has many friends. . . " Lol
the problem with the new games is the serious lack of interactive festivals. HM64 was so jammed full of them it was tricky to keep track of at times, while also having to deal with birthdays, anniversary, etc. Even the video sequence festivals in HM64 were fun to watch, i.e. spirit festival and fireworks.
I haven't played much of the series, so I can't say for sure it's the best, but that is widely held opinion among fans. I really enjoyed it, and I tend to think the high praise it gets is probably deserved.
@shbomb Harvest Moon 64 is the second best in the series. Friends of Mineral Town improves upon it, so I'd say it barely nudges it out. However, my nostalgia still wants to say HM64 is king.
@shbomb Well one yaer later! lol. But 64 was AWESOME, but I think Back to Nature for the PS1 beat it out, it just seemed like 64, only with MORE! It was later ported for the GBA as "Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town" which I think is the best one ever made. 64 definitely had the best music though.
it is hands down, it is quick to start, and simple at first, but can get quite complicated. you will love the characters, and the game play is so insanely addicting. best music as well.
I have to disagree with you sir. Back to Nature is the best. I guess because I grew up playing that not this, I think that way, but I like when Karen's dad works at the supermarket.
You do realize HM64 was carefully crafted to have all the characters to be descendants of the ones from HM snes. BTN, although a decent game, butchered those characters and their families by mixing them all up and changing their traits. Made the game nearly unplayable for myself.
Well, you're the one who said you liked BTN better because "Karen's dad works at the supermarket". I agree that doesn't have anything to do with the gameplay, but to make it a point as to why you like the game better only harms your credibility. Especially when the character arrangements made sense for HM64 and not BTN.
I didn't know you were gonna jump on a comment I said, lol, it was just a joke, not meant to be taken serious, because if you grew up playing one or the other, the other would seem strange.
How does HM64 (I haven't played it in a while) explain that the characters are "ancestors"?
As you play through the game things start to unravel. For instance, you learn that Karen and Cliff's great great grandfather was a hunter, they also mention their Grandmother having beautiful blonde hair. Other characters have revelations as well, even the old woman at the bakery is the same Ellen from snes.
It isn't, but it's something they clearly disregarded in BTN. They used the exact same character graphics but switched around the traits... Most wouldn't get it or care, but those that played snes and 64 harvest moon were disappointed at the treatment they were given. Later on games like Save the Homeland and Magical Melody brought back the timeline and made sense of things again.
BTN played fine though. And arguing which one is better based on gameplay alone is minuscule.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
really? you place that much stock in these games' characters? because the characters are so deep and involving right? with such greats as "i like flowers also i have pink hair and sell flowers" and "i like drinking also my father owns a vineyard also i work at the bar" and "hi my name is elli and i have no discernible personality traits to speak of" i can see why you'd be so upset. i don't play harvest moon for anything carefully crafted other than the farming. that being said i love both so :3
It's more of the puzzle and the revelation that unfolds. Like the insider touch, only knowing the secrets if you've played through the first game. It's a fun little extra that really magnifies the Harvest Moon universe and stabilizes it as a franchise. But I agree, the farming gameplay is what really counts, and both did so wonderfully. It's just 64 did more than that and seemed to cater to the fans of the previous title.
@HMTreeOfTranquility if you compare the new ones to the old ones you can see why this one is better, becuase the new ones just seem childish and stupid the old ones are a lot more mature in a way.
I must've spent a good $1000 in rentals alone for it when I was a kid.. dunno if I could get back into it after BTN but it was the biggest step up in the series from the original.. everything afterwards including TOT seems to go back to it terms of atmosphere.
@HMTreeOfTranquility I've played almost EVERY Harvest moon game and this one is absolutely the best! I'm playing it again now even! After 10+ years of playing this game it never gets old.
The thing a lot of people like about this game is unlike the other games your wife actually works for you on your farm. The games after this will not feature that.
@HMTreeOfTranquility I think it's one of the best Harvest Moons made. The graphics really suck but other than that, the game is great. Try it on your computer!
@HMTreeOfTranquility HM 64 was the best, almost all the Festivals had mini games like for easter you hunted certain colored eggs, and the mini games rewarded you special items you could not get else where. You could have puppies, divorce your wife (if you wanted I never did), take care of some ladies cows for her, fill a photo album, collect keyitems like the ocarina which would be played at the spirit Festival, the girls gave you birthday presents, you could build a deck, climb trees...etc
my favorite HM game ever, though I think AWL is the best HM. i just like HM64 more cuz it has more sentimental value to my life haha. but AWL is the most realistic lol
I think Magical Melody's music tops HM64's. It's generally a bit more cheerful to match with that game's visual style, and I also find it catchier. The fall theme from Magical Melody's pretty beautiful in its own right. Check it out if you haven't heard it.
However, since HM64 was my first HM game and I spent long hours with it, I wouldn't deny that it has an awesome soundtrack, again to match its aesthetic and gameplay! Thanks for uploading...this really is great stuff.
Yeah I think that's probably true... I haven't started playing the new one for wii yet, but in the preview videos I've seen it sounds kind of like generic elevator music
This still makes me sad ;_;

Oh how I miss the long hours I spent playing this game...I wish I could say I own this game but alas I do not.

I like the Snes version of this song better
Sounds more like winter, cold and depressing

I think Magical Melody's music tops HM64's. It's generally a bit more cheerful to match with that game's visual style, and I also find it catchier. The fall theme from Magical Melody's pretty beautiful in its own right. Check it out if you haven't heard it.
However, since HM64 was my first HM game and I spent long hours with it, I wouldn't deny that it has an awesome soundtrack, again to match its aesthetic and gameplay! Thanks for uploading...this really is great stuff.

In my opinion, both soundtracks match their respective games very well. I wouldn't change HM64's music for anything.

HM 64 has the best soundtrack of all HM games.. too bad the new musics aren't as good as these ones

Yeah I think that's probably true... I haven't started playing the new one for wii yet, but in the preview videos I've seen it sounds kind of like generic elevator music

I do like the music in Rune Factory 2, it doesn't sound quite as good as this but it is a good step.
(it is also the least glitchy of the new portable Harvest Moon series)

I personally like the fall theme in Rune Factory 1
