  • Fuck the north dude way to cold I'm from zone 10

  • Christmas lights?! what the hell lol. Did it survive that winter you wrapped it up for 3 years ago? what temperatures did you get then and had since if its still alive? I'm curious because I heard you have to use breathable materials or the pseudostem will just rot. Have you had any of this? Thanks for the video, it was a good watch :)

  • you look a lil like cuba gooding jr. nice vid btw i grow this season my first bananas but im lucky to live in zone 9 :)

  • another question it is about 25 degrees here give or take i cut it back should i pretect it?

  • umm ok i have one a bout four foot 5 this winter should i cut it back?

  • I got a few basjoos. If I use your method and don't use christmas lights, will it die?

    I'm in zone 6 too.

  • if your in zone 6 it will live there unpretected

  • i had the main growing point protected without christmas lights but the same stratagy... the main psuedostem rotted... but a sucker ran 3 feet and is now growing like crazy. the sucker was not protected and is now over 5 feet tall . itsgrowing like crazy, barely watered, i have forgotten to fertilize it so far this season, and its doing amazing.

  • @yeahthatlukekid im going to get one this weekend

  • AAAAH DAMN what is that monster at the end of the vid staring into the cam!!

  • Do you actually have to put the musa basjoo in a bag? Cant you just leave it in the ground and cover it with something? Also do you really have to cut it back down? My musa basjoo's leafs all died becuase of frost, so I cut them all but I dont know what else to do, this is my 1st year with it, could you give me ADVICE? Thanks! Oh I'll definetly subscribe.

  • it depends on the zone you live in. the bananas are only root hardy in my zone if you have protection. the bananas foliage are not freeze hardy, and will suffer damage from temperatures below freezing. bananas that are not protected probabaly will grow back, but they will not grow to be as large the following year. i9 reccomend heavy winter protection below zone 8. thankyou for subscribing:)

  • i will probably post a video about this years protection 2mro.

  • Hardy Bananas are so nice because they are a perennial in colder climates. With enough protection they will bounce back in the Spring.

  • I didn't go through so much protection last winter... I cut, covered with plastic, and piled mulch over it - no x-mas lights... they did fine. This summer wasn't much of a growing season for my musas though. Lots of pups (I counted 17 total) but not as much height - lack of sun & not as hot. But they still reached about 8ft tall so far. My palm treese are doing great too. I'm looking forward to trying out FreezePruf this season to see how good it is. Hopefully winter will be mild!

  • my basjoo was flowering 2 times and gave little bananas(z.8b), a way to protect is by using a partylightrope wrapped around the plant and a lot of insulation around it, could be straw or blankets with an umbrella or some roof

  • I have my palm since couple of months and I wonder one thing: do banana tree, after every winter, grow greater ( in the same time) that last year?

  • yes, esp if you have grown the plant from a small plant. but it also depends on the growing conditions... if your banana has an espially harsh winter, it will stunt its growth... growing only a few feet or so, you will notice that as your plant matures, it will send out more and more pups, these will grow much faster than the original plant, my plant has 3 large pups that are about the same size, but one of the pups just showed up 2 months ago, its now reaching 5 feet tall. good luck:)

  • Thanks. So now I don't know what to do with the new pup before winter-bring to home and dig in to the groung at spring, or just let well alone.

  • wow so creative, with protecting plants, I have some basjoo's never wintered them outside yet, I live in Southern Illinois zone 6b, im also gonna try and get some type of hardy palm to try out, I have a Chinese fan palm potted in my unheated sun porch its still green, pretty tough I have heard stories that these can survive colder temps than they say, but i dunno. The Foil is interesting never heard of that idea before.

  • i actually have a cupple small chinese fan palms that survived last winter, but last winter was mild. (0F) they defoliated with protection. and the foil protection is just an experement. when the temps got to -14 last week, i coverd the palm with 4 feet of snow.
