Unlike the rest of you, I think beauty pageants are a good thing as they boost your kids confidence, she will believe that she is beautiful and has trophies to prove it. I wish I could of done them, but I'm to old now, have short hair, wear glasses and have the ugliest teeth in history. If I had done pageants, maybe I'd look a lot nicer as I would have been brought up to care about that, instead of all that inner beauty crap, that's just what you say if you know your ugly.

Pageants make children bratty and snobby because they think they are prettier than everyone and better. But thats not true for all of them. I honestly want to be in pageants, I love dressing fancy and the big crowns. I don't mind getting my makeup done, or my hair. I would ask my daughter (When I have one, Im 13) if she wants to be in pageants when she is old enough to understand. I'm in modeling and I love it. Pageants are just a step up.

I think Child Beauty pageants can be a very positive thing for both parent and child. I remember my mom telling me (maybe more times then I wanted to hear) of how she had a bad experience in a beauty pageant at the state fair (a judge was also a fellow contestants relative) It is like Baseball, martial art or soccer for girls. That being said it is entirely possible that some might use a pageant for wrong reasons. just like some might use the cue of "baby or child photography" or "models."

Pageants DO create self confidence! I have been doing them all my life! I am not a slut, not even close to it! I am very involved in church and i model for chriistian as well as non christian closelines. I find it very offensive for someone to say that they arent benifical to a childs life. In the second grade I took the flyer for my school Glitz pageant to my dad and said "I wanna be in a pageant". I think beauty pageants are ok...as long as mommy doesn't force her eight year old to wear 3 kilograms of make up, plus 4 of spray tan, fake fingernails or trampy little stupid dresses that will only fit you if you starve yourself. As long as girls want to do it, have a proper age (+17, 18 probably, or maybe 16, but maybe) and don't subject their bodies like models nowadays, and as long as they don't turn into spoilt brats without education, beauty pageants are ok.

@Mslalalyrics I'm sure some of them do, but these kids are at such an impressionable age and all these pageants teach them is that you'll only ever get anywhere and succeed in life by being aesthetically pleasing. Maybe some of the kids do really like it, but you can't just let your kids do whatever they want. At this age, parents need to decide what's right for their children, not the other way around, and if these parents think this is the right way to raise a child, there isn't much hope.
@Maidenrugby I'm not gonna argue with that because the parents do force them, but the pageants also teach you to be assertive and stand up for yourself. I know because I'm an 11 year old and I used to be bullied so bad and called "goth" until I started doing pageants and then I stood up for myself. I'm not over confident, and I'm not too mean. I'm still teased, but I don't start crying everyday that I want to change schools again.

I'm glad for you that you found something that helped you stand up for yourself more. :) But a lot of these pageants have girls even a fair bit younger than yourself who are far more impressionable and don't have their own mind in the way that you seem to. Girls are getting into this sort of thing far to young and are being taught that beautiful is best. There are also lots of other worries with girls being made to look older than they are.

I am very involved in church and i model for chriistian as well as non christian closelines. I find it very offensive for someone to say that they arent benifical to a childs life. In the second grade I took the flyer for my school Glitz pageant to my dad and said "I wanna be in a pageant". I think beauty pageants are ok...as long as mommy doesn't force her eight year old to wear 3 kilograms of make up, plus 4 of spray tan, fake fingernails or trampy little stupid dresses that will only fit you if you starve yourself. As long as girls want to do it, have a proper age (+17, 18 probably, or maybe 16, but maybe) and don't subject their bodies like models nowadays, and as long as they don't turn into spoilt brats without education, beauty pageants are ok.

Maybe some of the kids do really like it, but you can't just let your kids do whatever they want. At this age, parents need to decide what's right for their children, not the other way around, and if these parents think this is the right way to raise a child, there isn't much hope.

I know because I'm an 11 year old and I used to be bullied so bad and called "goth" until I started doing pageants and then I stood up for myself. I'm not over confident, and I'm not too mean. I'm still teased, but I don't start crying everyday that I want to change schools again.

I'm glad for you that you found something that helped you stand up for yourself more. :) But a lot of these pageants have girls even a fair bit younger than yourself who are far more impressionable and don't have their own mind in the way that you seem to. Girls are getting into this sort of thing far to young and are being taught that beautiful is best. There are also lots of other worries with girls being made to look older than they are.
