This is a great song, and Wood is a talented guitarist. And when he recorded this song in the early 70s, his voice back then was not great, but it wasn't bad, and this song somehow fit it.
But after decades of heavy smoking, heavy drug use, and VERY heavy drinking (up to a litre of spirits a day, from what I've read), the abuse done to his body has clearly taken its toll on his voice. Until he really cleans up his act, he should decline from any singing.
Ronnie Lane on vocals would make this just perfect...he was the primary songwriter and always sang the best of this version...and I know Ron Wood would have been content with Ronnie singing this song with him playing lead guitar...
@TheMusicchannel23 wots Queenie going to do now you've laughed your ass off? Its Ronnie singing about experience in life, with feeling and soul......something I imagine you'll never have :-)
You all need to listen to the original more closely. It WAS Ronnie Wood on the original lead vocal from the Ooh La La album! (see Wikipedia for a start)
Almost impossible to forget the words to OOH LA LA when you have done it some 500,000 times but for Ronnie it is totally forgivable. Forgivable because it now seems (due to another poster) that at 0:42 and 1:20-1:24 the goddess on the left is his daughter. Amazing how us males think, isn't it? Besides I met Ron in Florida at Woodies On The Beach back in 1987 and it ain't like he cares anyway. He came across as very humble, mellow and peaceful in the couple minutes we spoke. A+ in my book!
@samuijule are you fucking ill??? WHY..... in the name of arse would you want to buy this bollocks!!??? If you want buy DVD then buy "Ronnie Lane & the passing show" You will cry! You will wonder why & how Lane managed to do what he did on no money but with a passion in his belief! This footage is an insult & embarassment to the song & Lane's legacy! Wood is good as a band member but solo........NO! Stop!
Ive said it before, This is the best Bob Dylan singing impersonation ever !
Don't get me wrong I love this more than you can ever know, Ron's a legend bigger than Texas one of my personal guitar Hero's. Check the Guitar and mandolin and probably even the Bass playing on the original 'Maggie May' as proof of some of his real talent. Gold Gold Gold . . .
Nice live version. Though I will alwasys prefer co writter Ronnie Lane vocals on this. Best Song Faces (post Marriot Small Faces) did. Dont know why Rod Stewart thought this was too week for him to do. But maybe Rod has too much of an ego?
Simply the best version you could hope for. Totally off key, slurred through it, but it's his finest hour, its his song. Which means this is perfect.........
@petegonad long live ronnie, he`s sober these days i think , some people will live longer with alcohol in the blood :), lifes so stressful we all need that drug of choice to survive natural or not .
@petegonad I love this on so many levels. Rons a rocker in the true sense of rock n' roll smokes , drinks and drugs on top of that he plays his Gibson at a show paying tribute to Fender guitars . Saw him back in 72 with Rod and the Faces when he did this the crowd went nuts. With Ron what you see is what you get.
Ron Wood is great! I don't know why a lot of people says wrong things about how Ron sings! He is a cool! And maybe his voice is not like Sinatra's or Mercury's voice but i like how he sings! So, It's only Rock And Roll! Or not?
okay- I love Ronnie Wood but I can certainly see why he was not the lead singer for the Faces, the Stones, or for ANY band, for that matter. Bless him. He really should stick to his hundreds of guitars :-D
sendo Ronnie o autor da música, ele pode cantar na hora q quiser, sóbrio ou bebado, ouve quem quer, mas eu gosto de Rod cantando, pena q ele ñ gravou a original, mas fez homenagem a Lane, e ficou lindo
How about the yeaaa Ronnie gives @ 3:04, thats why he is up there and not singin in your local dive. Hes tha MAN! Thankyou for this timeless peice of history!

Ironically, Ron Wood sang the original Oh La La from the Faces LP. I had always thought it was Rod. This version tells me his voice is shot since those early days.
the coolest thing about this video is that ronnie is playing at the 50th anniversary of the fender stratocaster using a gibson acoustic guitar!!!!! and nobody here noticed that! live forever, ronnie
@derekthedomino That's like the big Gibson anniversary concert back in 93 when all these Les Paul Players like Slash and Zakk Wylde played Hendrix's Voodoo Child. Hah, they spelled it wrong too, but it was a cool jam. Just one of those wierd things
That is very funny, seeing as Ronny was basically a career Fender guy!?
The only guitar he ever plays, which isn’t a Fender, since the late 1960s, is one a friend of his built for him. He’s a Strat, Telecaster, Firebird guy…………..
Saying that, I watched him jamming with Keef once, on a TV show, on acoustics, and he was playing a Gibson then as well.
He must just not like Fender acoustics! Gibson’s must be better………..
OMG! 1:40 in part "the dressing rooooooms are grey" using the "Falsetto"! What a Genius! Sounds so good, no kidding. How Rod "the mod" and Ronnie Lane never think about sing this way before??? Thanks for this funny but amazing version Wood. Respect from brazil.
I don't know what it is but I love this version so much. Even though Ronnie sounds a bit like a retarded guy, he brings the right feel and emotion to this amazing song. Would have been nice if the Stones gave him a greater opportunity to add his creativity to the band. Maybe he wouldn't have been Ronnie would if he could had the band let him spread his wings a bit. True, he wasn't Mick Taylor but very few are. He's still a tremendously talented guitar player and artist. Timeless
What a cool song. Love hearing it. It's neat it was used in a commercial. Ron Wood's a killer!!!,... in a good way.

Timeless

This is the reason why Ron Wood was never a frontman. Journeyman guitarist, really.
