Steve Jobs did not inspire me at all, he was far from an inspirational character. He was that guy who always tried to be 'hip' and 'cool' when he's just as old as Bill Gates. Yes people die everyday including children but Chris' point was that Jobs influenced people in some way. He changed the world in how we use technology and there is no denying that. This is really sad and hopefully he will not die because he was a very influential man in the tech industry and is responsible for some very great gadgets and software like the iPad 2 that I am using to type this right now and the Mac computers, and hopefully he will not die because they said that it was a very minor tumor on his pancreas that did not require Kimotherapy (however that is spelled) or radiation therapy so hopefully he will continue to manage apple for some time

I like to be in control of my machine and my OS, and I like choosing for myself which software to use. I won't pay a shitload of money for a PC that doesn't even let me upgrade its hardware. I built my current Win7 PC from scratch, and for the money I paid, you wouldn't get a Mac with even a third of my PC's specs. Plus, it runs perfectly smooth.
@Shyanmar I agree that building a Win7 PC from scratch is "Cheaper" but it's also Cheaper, both in build quality, support, etc. the reason why apple charges so much is because of the fact that they will replace any of their devices near-no-questions-asked. I had an iPod Touch that was dented, a pixel was dead, etc, took it to an apple store, and they replaced it without asking any questions! (asides from asking if it went through the wash, which in that case, they shouldn't replace it)

And that replacement philosophy is still no excuse for a clunky OS that tries to control what you can and can't do with it. I mean, Macs don't even support DirectX! (And don't come at me with bootcamp. Why should I buy a fucking Mac to run Windows on it?) No, I want an OS that lets me change ANYTHING I want. I can fumble around in system settings and registry, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Also, You can modify OSX JUST AS MUCH as windows, and you can also even strip it down to a Shell prompt. I dare you to do that with windows (DOS Prompt) and make it boot successfully.

Steve Jobs did not inspire me at all, he was far from an inspirational character. He was that guy who always tried to be 'hip' and 'cool' when he's just as old as Bill Gates. He was that guy who stretched the ipod's screen and called it a tablet PC. He was that guy who claimed to invent tablet PCs when the first one was in fact created by MS.
Also, stop with the PC vs Mac debate. Since macs started using Intel CPUs, they're nothing but overpriced PCs.

I have an iPod. Does that mean I was influenced by him? Hardly. I don't think he was a visionary. He was in the Right Place at the Right Time with Apple. Well said Chris. Anyone celebrating Jobs' death or anyone's death for that matter is soul less and you have to consider the source and their contribution to society. Yes people die everyday including children but Chris' point was that Jobs influenced people in some way. He changed the world in how we use technology and there is no denying that. Yes he has millions of dollars but his influence and vision wasn't a product of his wealth it is actually the other way around. He will be missed..

This is really sad and hopefully he will not die because he was a very influential man in the tech industry and is responsible for some very great gadgets and software like the iPad 2 that I am using to type this right now and the Mac computers, and hopefully he will not die because they said that it was a very minor tumor on his pancreas that did not require Kimotherapy (however that is spelled) or radiation therapy so hopefully he will continue to manage apple for some time

@boomaslang I don't exactly WISH for it. But it'll be somewhat of a relief. I'm not saying that I'd celebrate his death, he is, after all, still a human being (although I do have my doubts about that sometimes). Nevertheless, I think and hope that Apple will die with him, easy as that. It's not only overcharging 'slightly', they basically lie to their customers and try to control them as much as possible. And I'll be glad when all this "ZOMG apple is so awesome"-madness is finally over.

@ERTLPFM No. No, I haven't. I have friends who do, and that's already much more than enough to convince me to NEVER buy one of these damned things. I like to be in control of my machine and my OS, and I like choosing for myself which software to use. I won't pay a shitload of money for a PC that doesn't even let me upgrade its hardware. I built my current Win7 PC from scratch, and for the money I paid, you wouldn't get a Mac with even a third of my PC's specs. Plus, it runs perfectly smooth.

@Shyanmar I agree that building a Win7 PC from scratch is "Cheaper" but it's also Cheaper, both in build quality, support, etc. the reason why apple charges so much is because of the fact that they will replace any of their devices near-no-questions-asked. I had an iPod Touch that was dented, a pixel was dead, etc, took it to an apple store, and they replaced it without asking any questions! (asides from asking if it went through the wash, which in that case, they shouldn't replace it)

And that replacement philosophy is still no excuse for a clunky OS that tries to control what you can and can't do with it. I mean, Macs don't even support DirectX! (And don't come at me with bootcamp. Why should I buy a fucking Mac to run Windows on it?) No, I want an OS that lets me change ANYTHING I want. I can fumble around in system settings and registry, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

@Shyanmar Does windows support MACH-O Binaries? or ELF32/64 Binaries? also, there's crossover, wine, parallels, etc, ALSO, What makes you think that i would try to use the bootcamp argument if i'm trying to express to you how macs AS A WHOLE are better? Also, You can modify OSX JUST AS MUCH as windows, and you can also even strip it down to a Shell prompt. I dare you to do that with windows (DOS Prompt) and make it boot successfully.

In the end, Macs are just way overpriced, overrated PCs with an ugly design and an OS that doesn't support most software (yes, it may have a few exclusives, but seriously, very few people even need them), is clumsy to handle and just too inflexible.

He lies to and tricks people (calling whatever Apple developed brand-new, awesome and magical when, in fact, stuff like it existed for years already, for example). Unlike Bill Gates, who donated millions to good causes, Jobs never donated ANYTHING, unless you count research on liver illnesses, and that's just plain selfish in his case.

I agree mostly with what Pirillo said. Steve Jobs did contribute to my education. Going through grade school I used Macs (I've been a PC ever since). I love iPods and Apple has had a great influence on our country.
But I don't agree with him when he says "if you're not inspiring people you're a waste of space". Sorry but inspiring people is only one of many measures of value in life. If you want to talk about contributions truck drivers do more than most geeks.
