Is there any way to detect traps in this game? Like pitfalls or trapped treasure chests? Can the robber class disarm any traps or is there a spell to do so?
Just wow. The Might & Magic games seem to have gotten exponentially better with every release, except for IX, I hear.
I'm playing M&M6 now and it's got me hooked. A big part of me can't wait to go back and play I-V. This video's also helped me understand why I've taken more of a shine to this series than others. The M&M games really were kind of ahead of their time.
@HaganeSteel From what I can tell, the majority of long-time M&M fans tend to agree that MM3-5 (especially 4-5) are the best in the series. I personally like MM6 the most because it's more accessible, but the gameplay in this series has undeniably become less complex and sophisticated over time (which some people appreciate while others don't).
@Demiath Yeah. I feel M&M6 is a good "starter" M&M game, and I can't wait to check out 3-5. So far, this M&M6 at least has been philosophically brilliant as far as game design goes. Lots of content, huge quests, huge rewards.
Some people complain about becoming god-like in this game, but after getting my butt handed to me in the first half of the game, I feel that my party's near demi-god status later on is a just reward and something I earned for surviving this long. Amazing.
@HaganeSteel I completely agree about the difficulty progression; going from a party of weaklings hardly capable of surviving a seemingly hostile sneeze in their general direction to a group of god-like creatures who soar through the skies raining death and destruction on legions of foes is a big part of what makes MM6 so immensely satisfying to play.
yeah in the early 90ties 256 colors was what we had. and in late 80ties it was only 16 colors just like c64 rofl. My old Matrox G200 could run this game.
@kneteanimator I'm only familiar with the use of "8-bit" and "16-bit" in relation to various console generations, and this version of Might & Magic 3 is for the PC. The game *was* also released on SNES (i.e. 16-bit) and other consoles but didn't quite look the same as this.
Love this game. The reason why it's so good is that it's a good mixture of combat, puzzles, exploration and discovery. Too many 3d rpgs (especially the revival ones like Etrian Odyssey) are just super combat-heavy Wizardry clones.
@BabaBabaBooey I agree; the resurgence of first-person/party-based RPGs is nice and all but those (predominately Japanese) games are too focused on emulating the early Wizardrys for their own good. I like good turn-based combat, but most of the Might & Magic classics (as well as the last three epic Wizardry games, which happen to be my personal favorites) are much more about exploring a huge and varied game world than just running around in the same old dungeons.
yeah really cool game! check out my alternate midi version on my channel.
well this is very good for beginners also! i played this a lot on the amiga back in the days, has some better music imho. recommendation to all who are a bit new to the genre or this series. mm1/mm2 are a bit harder to get into.
@lafingman0 RPGenie has excellent playthroughs of most of the Might & Magic games, although he didn't play this version of MM3 but instead chose the Super Nintendo port.
@Demiath Yeah I found it, Thanks =] It's too bad he didn't do the PC version - Its what I was used to :P oh well, same game in the long run i guess =D
@Demiath by posting a question saying how old is this i didnt want to know haow old this is but rather say that this is rly old with a diffrent way, i never saw a game this old and im acctually impressed =P
Hey my name is James I have Might and Magic 3 for pc on my dos box but I can't get started cause it wants a word but I don't have the manual what should I do?
Rarerly is an old game playable so fine even today! I think it is the (for its time advanced) userinterface, the atmosphere, good vga graphics, right amount of challange and that everything in the fantasy world is well thought out. Or as you said rightly, it is SOLID!!
I originally played the amiga version of this, and it was superior graphically and soundwise to all other versions. the pc version isn't bad though, and the sound effects remind me of Xeen.
I remember playing this, "Now if only I can get to the next town witout trouble...Oh crap theres a ghoul...Oh crap theres twelve more ghouls! Oh crap I'm just barely out of level one!!!!!"
By the way the enemies moverd to the music I always thought they were dancing to the music. The battles in this game bot pretty annoying, but I still like this game.
I played it a while ago and I remember there was a fairy or goddess that would fix your characters ages after you completed some quest. She was located in the bottom left hand square on the world map, I believe. I think I eventually gave up when I was trying to spread evenly around all the orbs to the 3 kings and had to get 1 more to help one of the kings win but couldn't find it or something. Also, the fire town was really hard IIRC.
Amazing game. Some of the few annoying aspects were that the puzzles were just too hard (some riddles you either could figure out or you couldn't) and that at some points you became too dependant on using temples/fountains to buff up your characters in order to beat a dungeon
It's strange that needlessly difficult puzzles can be found in nearly all the classic RPGs, You'd think that RPGs should be about fighting monsters and levelling up characters; not desperately trying to decipher various clues which are more obscure than what you'd find in most adventure games (which is where puzzles belong, if you ask me...).
By the way, do you remember having any problems with characters aging too fast while playing this game?
"Roleplaying" for me is killing monsters and talking to NPCs. Puzzles belong to other genres. That modern RPGs don't have many puzzles is the only thing I really like about them.
i did, I played through both MM3 and MM6 (missed 4-5 didn't have the requirements for it on my computer at the time) and MM3 was by Far the superior game, MM6 was very reptitive, but i got addicted to it and didn't quit until it was done. I don't even remeber what happenee at the end, (MM3 has one of the most memorable endings in a gam IMO)
heh, the most hardcore and challenging int he series are M&M 2, i only completed it once on my C64 and never again :)
i am atm replaying M&M3 for, like, the 12th time now in my life, so i have to admit it is my favourite too in the series, with M&m 4-5 and M&M 6 in close pusrsuit.
oh, btw, no chance one of you guys could review M&M 1 and 2 for MSX? i know boilerplate did the PC-Engine version (which i also have), i have both these games in my collection but no MSX computer to play them :(
I like MM3 but I was just too worried that my characters are going to die of old age before I finish the game. I just really hate games with time limits, so I played Wizardry 6 and Wizardry 7 instead...
Although there are some great emulators for the MSX I haven't found any ROM versions of MM1/MM2 around, so I'm afraid can't help you with that...
Actually, the game is completely turn-based, although in this video I've speeded up the game considerably, so it might not LOOK particularly turn-based, if that's what you're referring to...
Nice!!! You're doing the PC version too. Now I won't be the only person who has done serious videos of this one.
My favorite of the series, and I believe the most hardcore and challenging. Post your score as a reply to my M&M3 end score video when you finish it. I'll gladly accept it.

This game can be hard if you're not careful.
The puzzles are a great sink-in for those of us who came from an era where puzzles meant thinking, not just putting blocks in places. Bwahaha.
But, they can be a bit jumbled and confusing, so it helps to have a pen and paper (or notepad) handy to keep things tumbling along.

I was 16 bit as it was released on MegaDrive, SuperNES I think... Amiga, 286PC (supported CGA, EGA and VGA) and so on...
Even PCEngine (CDrom) but this can be almost considered 16bit...
I used to play it on my AT286 EGA PC...
