The aluminum struts that came with the floats were a little too heavy so I used carbon fiber rod instead. I used some standard, nylon, landing gear straps to secure the carbon fiber rod to the wood pieces. Because the flat, wood piece that came with the original float kit was a bit too thin to use with the nylon strap screws, I used 2 pieces of balsa spread apart like outriggers on either side to keep the floats secured.
I don't have the floats mounted right now but there is a closer pic of the mod on my Helifreak profile - tyrick69. Sorry, Youtube won't let me post a direct link to the photo so you'll have to search for it.
Do you have any mods on your Blade 400. On mine the main rotor head does not turn that long after I shut down the motor. It seems that by driving the tail rotor it is slowing the main. I can do autorotation but on a heli where the tail is not driven by the main when the motor stops, autorotation is easier.
@MidnightHeli If there were any mods at all done at the time of this video it would only have been the addition of abec 3 bearings for the main shaft, tail drive gear, and tail shaft. Other than that, the only other thing is to to run the belt a little loose and lube the belt with silicone spray.
I just purchase these floats and was wondering if you could let me know what set up you have to fly with these floats maybe Pitch curves and Thro curves Did you change motor ? I have Blade 400 and would love to do this Thanks
I just bought the same floats for my Blade 400... What did you use for the landing struts (carbon fiber)? It doesn't look like you used the aluminum ones included in the kit.
I had originally tried the aluminum struts but they ripped two of the tabs off my main frame on the first maiden attempt. I ended up using carbon fiber struts and using zip ties to fix them to the frame.
Thanks for the information. I just finished drilling and mounting the aluminum ones on and may go with them for now.
I will see about getting a movie of my setup posted before too long. I'm still learning and don't think my videos would be terrible entertaining but with snow on the way here I figure these will be just the ticket to keep me flying.
Just fill the floats with helium and save your batteries!

I would really like to see a close up of your mod. Are you on HeliFreak?

I finally used zip ties to secure the whole assembly to the heli and used a little hot glue to keep it from sliding side-to-side.

You may want to zip tie them to the frame as well for added security. Mine ripped the tabs off the frame on liftoff.

Taking quite a bit of head speed to lift those things eh?
............do a flip!
Just kidding.
I wouldn't fly my bird over the water without floats either.
