@The1vicvic1 As opposed to what? The Japanese "a" vowel sounds are always pronounced like "ah," which is very similar to the short "o" sound in English. Therefore, "Zangetsu" is pronounced as you hear it said here.
@trueborngamer11 Yeah, Ichigo clearly had fun just saying "Sega!" in a really strange way. Everybody else actually made a joke at Sega's expense, which I actually like a lot better.
Of course, every character in the game also has a simple straight delivery of "SEGA!"...but that's the kind of thing that was a dime a dozen in the 90s, when the whole phenomenon was still novel and unexpected.
@ThaProd1gy Well, in the DS game that came out that same year, there WAS a playable version of him (called "ICHIGO?"), but he functioned exactly the same as regular Ichigo with a different voice. Granted, I love that voice, but speaking from experience, it wouldn't exactly add much to the game.
Nowadays, there's actually enough to (just maybe) give him his own distinct identity, but back then, there really wasn't.
@YuuGiJoou I started playing this a long time ago, it's fun and probably one of the only good bleach games to be released outside of Japan. apart from the ones on the DS and maybe The new one on PS3
@summyshark I think you've gone and named all the Bleach games released outside Japan there, haven't you? ^_^;
The DS fighting games are solid works by Treasure, although they do play a little "traditionally" with a surprising number of Bleach-y elements mixed in. I did enjoy the first one...and I can't seem to find a copy of Dark Souls for cheap as I'd like.
3rd Phantom was an RPG on the DS and not a bad one at that, particularly since it incorporated so many elements of Bleach into an SRPG.
@summyshark That definitely wouldn't hurt. I had kinda hoped that we'd get Versus Crusade outside Japan, and there's still technically hope that they're just waiting for waiting for the English language anime to catch up, but I'd thought that recent trends were starting to reverse that sort of thinking.
I confess some shenanigans on my part for that much. You see, I found in the sound test that each character has these sorts of funny clips, and I can't for the life of me figure out why they didn't use them for anything...so I worked my video editing magic and spliced them in to where they clearly should have been able to be used.
I did it so that people could actually have a chance to hear these funny voice clips while not having to make a video of just them back-to-back with lifeless models.
It's kinda old at this point, but I've been spotting it a lot in Best Buy bargain bins (or endcaps or wherever they keep their older games in a particular store) these days, but I don't know that I've managed to spot it at either Wal-Mart or GameStop in quite a while.
Every character has a funny way to say it in addition to the straight "SEGA!" that every character who can be your menu mascot, there's always an additional funny way that they can say it.
Ichigo's happens to just be a weird way of saying it. He's special in that he actually does have more than one extra unused "SEGA!" in his sound test, he also has a Hollow Ichigo voice clip saying it.
It's actually a holdover sound clip that also happens to be in Bleach: Blade of Fate for the DS...so I guess they held one recording session for both games, since they share a lot of the same characters and voice clips, even if they are very different games.
Hollow Ichigo isn't in this game, but they left his "SEGA!" in anyway, so Ichigo ends up having one more of them than most other characters do.
It's pretty amusing to see their expressions having nothing to do with what they say or how they say it.
It's too bad I had to go see footage of the not-yet-released-in-America Bleach game, as that game makes this one look as slow as molasses. But at least I can have some idea of what's going on here.
I think in this case in particular, Ichigo's Tensa Zangetsu model isn't equipped with different facial expressions, since it goes away once the Bankai meter empties out...and Ichigo will say the same thing, looking somewhat more surprised if he wins against Arturo and is still using his Shikai Zangetsu.
I think I took this battle pretty slowly and deliberately, because I wanted to use all of Ichigo's special attacks, which just happened to wreak havoc on Arturo's life bar from all the hits.
Everyone has some generic prebattle phrases, but a surprising number of characters have specific banter. I'm not sure how many there are. The voicework is extensive in this game.
Arturo...well, he doesn't know anybody (except Yamamoto...but it's been a millennium), so he threatens everybody with death or tells them to get lost.
He tells Ichigo to begone, as he finds his existence repugnant. He asks Yamamoto if this is a suitable location for his grave. Naturally anyone could receive these.
is it just me or does he say tensa zONgetsu

Oh, so they say different things depending on who your opponent is? Does this apply for every character combination or just a few specific matchups?
Scratch that, Arturo says the same thing in both of them.
