Secondly, today kids have been unbued with a supreme sense of entitlement by the parents and the media. Anybody have an idea where that originated?
In the video the mother talks as though reason and logic are going to be enough to persuade this kid to behave. This technique is predicated on the belief that all the kid wants is fairness or justice and it just needs to be clearly explained to him what it is. People, espeicially kids don't want just what is fair. They want their way all day. Does anyone really believe otherwise? As the parent, you are the moral authority. I remember chipped teeth as a result of getting kicked in the face by my father. Not to mention , beat with a tennis racket or the heavy duty can opener to the back. A bit extreme and not appropriate but it did happen so I can relate to the OLD SCHOOL way things were handled.

Kids think they can get away with this crap because the mother or father's behavior does not assume the moral high ground. They shouldn't have to spend too much time explaining what is right but instead, demonstrate right behavior. This includes respect for their children combined with expectation that they should exhibit correct behavior. Secondly, today kids have been unbued with a supreme sense of entitlement by the parents and the media. Anybody have an idea where that originated?

In the video the mother talks as though reason and logic are going to be enough to persuade this kid to behave. This technique is predicated on the belief that all the kid wants is fairness or justice and it just needs to be clearly explained to him what it is. People, espeicially kids don't want just what is fair. They want their way all day. Does anyone really believe otherwise? As the parent, you are the moral authority. If you don't have confidence this area, don't be a parent.

Side note ... watching that vid, I thought they were actors. But if they weren't, then I get the impression the mom is just ultra-submissive, probably had a very dominant husband, and she just gave in to her kid. Kid didn't turn into that overnight. It took years of him whittling away her self-esteem and discipline. A woman like her needs a dominant guy that will look after her, but also knock her kid in the head when he acts up.

I watched the video & I'm completely on the side of the kid. This mother has obviously worked him up to the point of frustration. He's trying to explain to her his frustration that she wont pay attention to him & just treats him like nothing by telling him to just shut up,& she interrupts him even during this. So he tells her to shut up like she does to him. Then he slaps her which is wrong, but the right response to that is to explain to him why its wrong, not smash him through a coffee table.

I have so much love and appreciation for my mother and father for whopping my ass like a man. I remember being 8 but tough as nails as a kid, and by 3 I was super polite and quiet. Kids now are foul, spoiled, angry, and ugly little people.
