  • people call ruiz borring. what was lewis? larry holmes??? you telling me mayweathers thunder and lighting? dat 2nd fight with holyfield ruiz had blood coming from his nose n mouth his eye was cut and closed but his still kept fighting and dropped holy in the 11th rd. Ruiz wasnt great but he was tough, brave and always turned up to win no matter who he fought, he wasnt scared to travel abroad nor ducked anyone, on top of it all he was a good man who respected others in the sport

  • @Excecutioner147 He really was boring as fuck, and he got beat by 2 middleweights.

  • @pearcemark2 i know he was mate but dont let that take away from the fact he was a brave warrior who didnt quit when blood was pouring from his face, think back to the haye fight

  • @Excecutioner147 I respect that you have to do what's necessary to win, but goddamn if I wouldn't trade that decade of Ruiz/Valuev/Klitschko heavyweight dominance for anything else.

  • ruiz would've gone alot further as heavyweight if he had never fought tua,

after that knockout, he changed his style. he was actually a good stick and

    move guy before that fight

  • well my cousin david tua knockd out your cousin jon bak then.lol in the 1st 19sec's..

  • Ruiz is not a great heavyweight, but he is better than his boring style would have you believe he is. He showed a lot of heart and toughness against Holyfield in their first fight, and here he shows what he can do when he stands up and fights instead of holding.

Go check out his blistering first round KO of Ray Anis here on youtube to see what Ruiz is really capable of...

  • you know, there seems to be alot of ruiz-haters out there but remember something - this guy fought holyfield 3 times when holy was at his peak W1 D1 L1 - and he had the man down too. ruiz is a world class fighter and when he wants to turn it on he can. his fault is that he rarely does. on his night though - like in this vid - youd be foolish to under-estimate him. would love him to fight haye

  • you say holy was @ his peak are u stupid or just blind?

  • @jjwesley2525 I wouldnt say when he wants to turn it on he can - i doubt he wanted to be boring and shit for most of his career.

  • I agree with everything you said... except for when you said "holy was at his peak" Holyfield was NOT at his peak when Ruiz got him, but take nothing away from Ruiz, he's had a very good career. He's one of the more successful heavyweights of his era, and I like his chances in his fight against David Haye. Plus, he's been working with a new trainer the last couple years & has worked on "getting back to the basics"...he's more of a puncher lately...a little less "boring" than he used to be.
  • A prime Holyfield? Holyfield was 38 years old and a shot fighter (after being soundly beaten twice by Lewis) at the time of their first fight. Hardly, hardly, hardly his "prime." Ruiz will get destroyed by David Haye. Good for the Haymaker, I guess.

  • Holyfield was never soundly beaten by Lewis. I think he one the first one JUST on points and i defo think Holyfield won the second fight.

  • I went to the Haye/Ruiz fight last night and I have to say that I now have a lot of respect for John Ruiz now. I hope he keeps fighting. I wish he tryed to smother Haye but Haye was fast and powerful. Ruiz, can take a punch. Hats off to him. I'm now a fan.

  • Why can't Ruiz be this aggressive all the time instead of holding his way through 12 rounds?

  • Ruiz does not get enough respect the guys an good boxer with wins over Evander Holyfield and Andrew Golota dont be suprised if Ruiz wins a belt soon

  • That win over Golota was very suspicious. Golota floored him twice in the second round. Many felt that he was better than Ruiz.

  • i've always wondered, does Ruiz have a good chin? from what i've heard he's been KO'd by Tua and knocked down by Golota, but has he been knocked down by anyone else?

  • I don't think so. Yeah, he does appear to have a good chin. He was battered pretty badly by Valuev in both their fights and has beaten some big punchers like McCline and Kirk Johnson (although that was by disqualification).

  • Oh yes, I forgot. He was knocked down by Toney too. But he got up pretty quickly.

  • The Toney knockdown was not legit. Toney was stepping on his foot and ruiz was off balance.

  • Ruiz desrved the decision in both Valuev fights. Valuev can't batter anyone.

  • Well he floored Valuev in the 2nd round of their rematch but the ref counted it as a slip, but if you watch closely Valuev went down to a knee from a punch and got up quickly so it should been a knock down. As much as I hate Ruiz and his boring style, I thought he did enough to beat Valuev both times.

  • No questions. Ruiz is a great Fighter!

  • ruiz is a good tough fighter but far from great.

  • The words "Great" and "John Ruiz" do not belong in the same sentence.

  • Ruiz does look a lot better. Tisdale didn't come to fight, though. Out of gas halfway through round 1. Credit to Ruiz anyway for seeing it so quick, chopping his (poorly conditioned) midsection down right away, and ending it fast in the 2nd.

  • thats my big cousin jon the quiet man ruiz !!! and for all yall haters dissing on him i bet if you were to fight him youd end up on the ground jsut like tisdale hes a proven champ he beat hollyfeild and no one can rag on that

  • True, he was probably the last one to beat a viable Holyfield. It's just sad he adopted that punch and grab style after the Tua fight. It really hurt him in the eyes of the fans while it made him a champ. I think he beat Valuev and deserved a shot at the title eliminator over Lyakhovich, but such boxing politics. He'll definitely make a good keeper of the gate along with Brewster and Briggs even if he never gets a title again. He'd test anyone.

  • Being victim of a bad decision does alot to boost the popularity of a figher.

  • That's true. Look at Glen Johnson. I think Ruiz's problem is lack of popularity as a whole. Promoters don't want to touch him because the majority of the boxing public doesn't like his punch, grab, and hold style, even if it has proven successful. Also, his manager doesn't help him much with his big mouth.

  • @elfuego14 - Frankly, I am not sure why John Ruiz is considered boring. He was a good fighter, and for me achievements is what really matters in the end. No matter how exciting one fights, it don't mean they are that great after all. John Ruiz was a great champion. No questions asked..

  • @elfuego14 John's the homie too....most humble and nice dude you'll ever meet and to think he has the power to kill you at any moment lol

  • @elfuego14 hes my friends uncle

john ruiz is a great guy with respectable family values

  • Damn Ruiz! Not bad at all my friend, hope to see ya do that more ;D

  • i never really was a Ruiz fan, but i really picked this guy apart.

  • U guys can hate on Ruiz. Before Ruiz was a heavyweight champ, he used to fight like this all the time. Ruiz can still compete against the other heavies. Ruiz knocked Oleg out early in his career. I think he can beat Peter, especially after Peter's last performance.

  • John Ruiz actually throwing punches I never though I would see the day where he didn't initiate clinches for 12 rounds and wonder why no one wants to see him fight

  • ruiz doesnt have any technic he is not a boxer, in fights with some better oponents he can only shot 2-3 powerful punches and clinch and he is doing it over and over again, he is not a boxer i hope he wont be a champ never again I hope he will lose all his future fights

  • Ruiz DOES have technique. You don't now boxing.

  • Hahahahahahahahaha the only one? Now I know you don't know jack shit a bout boxing read more and then talk shit. And the Toney fight was a no contest due to a steroid use and the belt back to Ruiz haw you like them apples?

  • Good for John Ruiz! U proven yourself, u are the only one standing. Take that u haters!!

  • Oh dear God, please.

Please tell me John Ruiz isn't coming back. Didn't we put his nightmare of a title reign behind us already? As if the heavyweights weren't boring enough...

  • not bad...

  • Ruiz would be much better if he didn't hold and actually fought!!!

  • You can tell how popular Ruiz is by all the empty seats in the arena. Ruiz is the worst thing ever for boxing. I loved how he got schooled by two middelweights and I loved his excuses when he lost. He blamed the ref for not letting him fight and the other lost on steroid use (for a legit injury)

  • i want ruiz vs maskaev fight.Maybe Ruiz isnt the best but better than maskaev-peter and ibragimov

  • Ruiz looks tough but against weak competition. A fat guy willing to get in the ring and take pucnhes is NOT a fighter.

  • Yikes! Who'da athunk Ruiz would remember how to actually FIGHT, like he LIKES it? He looked like a young and hungry heavyweight.

  • guter kampf

  • I think this Ruiz would've badly beaten the returning, rusty Sergei L. No wonder he didn't accept the fight.

  • ruiz is underrated as fukk and shouldnt even be a heavyweight... he was robbed in germany twice .. ruiz is punching harder then ever .. and looks damn good in this fight

  • no hes not, Toney tested positive to roids so he didnt win vs Ruiz. Ruiz is coming to take what belongs to him a 3rd time.

  • Well, Ruiz looks 2times more impressive than in Valuev/Chagaev fights

  • Ruiz was very impressive in this fight.

  • John Ruiz is like a horrible stench that just won't go away.

  • But you forgot to mention that Ruiz is a 2 times world heavy weight champion, and the Ruiz is the firs Latino to do it in the history of boxing, how you like them apples.

  • ...He's also the only "champion" to lose his title to a former middleweight -- TWICE.
