  • Death Note!!!

  • Signore, pietà; Cristo, pietà; Signore, pietà.

  • This Catholic and Orthodox song is made of WIN!!!

    -Archzenom, the Roman Catholic.

  • I'm an atheist, but I love this music.

  • Kyrie elaision. God Bless the Franciscans of the antonment

  • Kyrie elaission we sing it a mass every day or at least most days I go to St. Joan of Ark in Toronto Canada it's my new parish since I just moved recently and the reverence and holding on to tradition is wonderful especially in our modern culture sometimes referred to as the culture of death which I have to fight every day of my life

my parish priest belongs to the Franciscans of the atonement and is a wonderful pastor we need more like him

  • We should all REJOICE in the GLORY OF JESUS CHRIST who was born to SAVE mankind!!

  • @Micelli1947 Yet Mankind wavers and throws it's hands up to it's ears. God have mercy on us!

  • beautiful

  • Can someone tell me who the right-most is at 1:33? Is it St. Michael?

  • @Croopskate It is Apostle John the Evangelist

  • @Croopskate John. It is Mary Jesus and John. How cant you see all by your self ? On the cross when Jesus died Mary and John were there. All others were somewhere else.

  • @Croopskate John, the beloved Apostle. He was at the foot of the cross with the 2 Marys - (the only disciples that were there), and he was the one Jesus entrusted the care of His mother to after His death ("behold your Mother, ....behold, your son"). Also the one that had the vision recorded in the book of Revelations.

  • @soterioss8787 So, never.

  • is this an orthodox chant?

  • it s a very nice Greek orthodox chant....!!!!!!!

  • @soldier9718 Yes

  • @soterioss8787 Exactly my thoughts man. I'm a recent convert from catholicism to born-again, but after all, it is one true God and Son we worship. Praise God!

  • @VeltroiVFurion i dont care much for the protestant church. i am a true catholic but god bless u

  • @VeltroiVFurion There are "born-again" Catholics too btw. I'm a revert Catholic from conservative, Anabaptism. There are "born-again"s that could use some reformation and rebirth too, btw....

  • @soterioss8787 They can't be all correct, then you could claim that the corrupt Iconoclast Patriarchs were right! That is impossible as previous Patriarchs agreed with the use of Icons. They can't be all right and perfect!

  • @soterioss8787 There will never be union with a pope who claims infallibility, against all the Holy Fathers!

  • THE WORLD'S A MESS. THE CHURCH IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE CRUX OF THE WORLD. RESTORE EVERYTHING BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS DURING EMPEROR CONSTATINE'S TIME.

  • I WOULD LIKE CHRISTEDOM TO BE RESTORED PRIOR TO VATICAN 2 ALL THE WAY BACK PRIOR TO THE REFORMATION AND THE FIRST GREEK SCHISM. BRING IT BACK ALL THE WAY BACK TO HOW IT WAS DURING EMPEROR CONSTANTINE.

  • If i had the power, i would restore christianity to the byzantine era. All orthdox churches will be brought back under the see of Peter and the vatrican will be forced to restore itself to the way it was prior to 1969. Only one creed and one true christian orthodox mass will be followed.

  • blessed be all my christian brothers all around europe...no matter if orthodox, catholic or protestant....I only wish that there would be more collaboration between us again.... Jesus would want us to be brothers I hope one day we can unite and defend Europe before it falls into the hand of strangers. amen.

  • What's so beautiful about the Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism is that there though divided, there is truly more common ground between the two faiths than there are differences.

  • @IpCrackle I think there is more differences then common ground actually. Especially in the modern RCC.

  • @IpCrackle maybe back when these chants were used, not today

  • Stupid Classes :[

  • studying the great schism in history. this seemed like appropriate music to listen to whilst researching! gregorian chants are so beautiful

  • @soterioss8787 They've been having that "consistent dialogue for reunification" for centuries now, if not since the Schism.

  • @oguzsaltik Nothing's happened. Pope's too busy managing state affairs instead of maintaining orthodoxy and disciplining wavering priests and parishes.

  • I listen to this while offering up my prayers to Lucifer,t he father. Blessings of the black flame.

    Bona atrum flamma

  • @2daewoo4u LOL he can not stand to be around Godly music...so this is a joke ...you can offer this song all day long and Lucifer has to flea from you...the laws of good and evil there can not be darkness when there is light ..I would be careful if I were you if you worship Lucifer you might be getting on his bad side by playing Holy music to him....just saying......!

  • @2daewoo4u lmao

  • @soterioss8787 And as I've commented before, Muslims are not fighting because of religious difference, but of racism. What you call sectarian violence is a strife between local Iraqis and Kurds.

  • @soterioss8787 Christianity comprises of 2 billion souls, 1.2 billion of which is Catholic. That's a little higher than half, as opposed to Sunnism which encompasses 85% of Islam. The statistics themselves would prove that Christianity is much much more divided than Islam.

  • @soterioss8787 Your views on the Protestants are exactly same as Sunnis' beliefs of the Shiites and other dissenting sects in Islam. There is THE orthodoxy, which I consider it to be Catholicism and Sunnism and there is the heterodoxy, which are the Protestants and Shiites. 85% of the Muslim world is Sunni, which is orthodox. You tell me, how much of the Christian world is Catholic? You are much more divided.

  • @oguzsaltik

A lack of so-called "unity" among Christian "denominations" isn't a bad thing! Mere "uniformity" - that would be bad. The different avenues in Christianity don't dispute the concrete, central truths of what Christ and His Apostles taught - and that's the important thing. All you need to be a Christian is believe in Christ (Acts 16:31), that's just how simple it is.

  • @ADONAIS9991 Nonsense, to say that Christ and his Apostles taught to be divers in beliefs! What, did all of a sudden the Holy Spirit leave the Apostles when teaching their Disciples??? God forbid!

  • Comment removed

  • @soterioss8787 They blow each other up in Iraq because of racism, not of religious difference. Iran poses threat not because of religion, but because of its expansionist policies. There is NO one Christian Church, as every denomination has its own churches. How do you not include Protestantism and its branches into your count? I'm Muslim, and I have never seen a sign on a mosque that said "Sunnis only".

  • @soterioss8787 Lol, this shows how ignorant you are of Islam. Sunnis and Shiites don't have separate mosques, but Christian denominations have separate churches. You are more divided than Muslims, much much more divided.

  • I don't care if religion is the cause of all human suffering. The music is beautiful.

  • @Levitikai If it is the cause of suffering, it is also the remedy.

  • @Levitikai Well you usually can't cure cancer with more cancer, but if you would like to try then go right ahead. I'm sure the Westboro Baptist Church will still be right there to demonstrate the worst humanity has to offer.

  • Time to take my cat to glamour shots.

  • wow sure is sketchy in here. c'mon be you gentile, jew, or whatever. music is a universal language that reaches the core of the human body and it evokes so many feelings.

  • @soterioss8787 Both branches of the original Christian Church will, through faith, understand that there must be a single Christian Church and with time will be reunited, if not, than i guess you're right about Jesus Christ undoing our mistakes. Catholic and Orthodox Christians have never divided, for they pray, believe and live their lives in the same manner, this schism between us is only political, driven by lust for power and dominance, the Schism has never happened for those who believe.

  • @soterioss8787 We just want the Poli (Constantinople ) back! After all, its the same to us as the vatican is to you!

  • @MrPackMan1992 Sure, come and take it :)

  • @MrPackMan1992 i know right?!? just give it back.

  • @MrPackMan1992 You won't take "ISTANBUL" back until no turk lives in there! We will protect it to our last drop of blood! Like we took it from you in 1453...live with your megalo idea in your house ;)

  • @overlordmetal What the hell are you blabbing? The entire Middle East was originally Christian, until the jihad began with the advent of the Messenger of Islam (Yes, a Rassoul is a Messenger) and his jihadi comrades.

  • I love this stuff and I'm Jewish! :)

  • @GloryZombie I love this stuff and I'm Atheist.

  • @soterioss8787 We aren't as divided as you think brother. The Shia's and Sunni actually get along pretty much everywhere and they often pray together as i've seen in the Arab nations and South Asian Muslim nations. Although I do admit Iran and Saudi go a little overboard.

  • @mustardbongs

Pray together yes, but nt a week passes by in iraq or pakistan without an attack on shia shrine.

  • this has brung a tear to my eye and im christian. lord god have mercy on me for the things i have done or happen in my life and show me the way to serve you better when the time comes, when i have to leave this wicked world and be brought up to your kingdom to fight against evil....

  • please stop all of the judgements. who are we to judge anyways?

  • ANY MAN THAT KILL IN THE NAME OF GOD IS AN HYPOCRITE KILLING IS AN ACT OF HATE, GREED OR STUPIDITY BUT THE HIPOCRECY IS TO USE GOD AS A SHIELD TO JUSTIFIED YOUR OWN DEEP PERSONAL BAD FEELINGS DONT FULL YOURSELFE HATE IS AN ACT AGAIST GOD ATACKING OTHERS IS FOR POWER NOT FOR GOD CONVINCE THE OTHERS WITH LOVE WITH THE TRUTH AS JESUS DID WITH HES OWN SACRIFICE.

  • @ricmedinar1 CALM DOWN, and make friends with punctuation/caps lock.

  • THE TRUTH SET YOU FREE BUT THE TRUTH INSIDES YOU THOSE THINGS THAT YOU KEEP TO YOURSELF BECAUSE ARE TOO MUCH SHAME TO EVEN TRY TO REMEMBER THEM THOSE THINGS THAT YOU DID OR SOMEONE ELSE DID TO YOU THAT ARE JUST TOO PAINFUL TO TALK ABOUT THOSE THINGS THAT YOU ARE PLANING TO TAKE WITH YOU TO THE GRAVE THATS THE TRUTH THAT JESUS WAS TALKING ABOUT THAT TRUTH FROM YOUR OWN HEART THAT COMES OUT WITH TEARS.

  • Wonderful song. I always use this to relax and balance myself.

  • @soterioss8787 Deo volente, it shall be done sooner. :)

  • @soterioss8787 He comes.*

  • Love LOVE LIGHT LIGHT

WE ASRE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER

  • Love LOVE LIGHT LIGHT

  • I loved the first Icon of Pantokrator *----*

  • God create human in good way, but human create himself in bad way

  • Its such a shame....... satan has taken the original frequency of what they used to do in the Temple of Yahuah "God" in king Davids time and hes mixed it up with all sun god worship and babylon pagan satanic symbols and chants U_U.......

  • @nuggermyme You can worship GOD however you want!

  • @dis00612 Oh i'm sorry i don't read the satanic bible.......

  • @nuggermyme So your tellin me you have to worship God by just singing good? Every form of worship to God is acceptable in his eyes whether you are singing, chanting, talking, clapping or stomping, if you praise and worship God with your heart (which is all that matters) it is acceptable.

  • @dis00612 Were did i say that? singing is nothing if you do not obey Him in what he tells you. You can sing your heart out to him and then the next day go sleep around, kill some people and steal from your friends. Just because you use the work "God" or "holy" in songs is far from worship.......

  • @nuggermyme You said "they mixed it up with all son god worship and babylon pagan satanic symbols and CHANTS!" What is wrong with chanting?

  • I liked Kyrie Eleison from Excalibur better. This version sounds incredibly creepy

  • this is in latin or in greek?

  • hey sweets, can i download this song please? xoxo

  • I'm performing this in a cathedral this week(:

  • Beautiful.

  • This is amazing on Youtube...

But in live in a Church it's perfection...

  • AMEI AMEI AMEI. JESUS EU CONFIO EM VÓS! BRAZIL

  • @RoninAvenger True True Christianity, Islam, Judaism, are all man made and satanic....... Yahuah "God" hates religion... satan has messed everything up and mixed everything in to one big abomination... And soon it will all be destroyed and everyone will be keeping Torah ^_^...

  • @RoninAvenger Well said

  • @RoninAvenger

    Oh really?

"Fight those who believe not in Allah, nor the Last Day, nor forbid that which Allah and his Messenger have forbidden, nor follow the Religion of Truth [Islam], out of those who have been given the Book [the Qur'an], until they pay the jizyah [religious subjugation tax] in acknowledgement of superiority and they are in a state of subjection." Qur'an 9:29

While the vast majority of Muslims are decent, peaceful people, the Qur'an contains many more evils than this one.

  • Yes Christians pays a small tax of about 5% living in Muslims countries, but its not imposed on the poor, or elderly or widows.

Yet Christians pay a tax a of about 40% to a Jewish Federal Reserve living in the West and are being bled dry via Usury, Debt fiat, inflation and fractional reserve banking.

The Koran states that Christians are 'People of the Book' that deserve protection.

20 Million Christians live in Peace, Today, in the Middle East-from Jordan to Syria and Iran, WITH Muslims.

  • @StSimonMartyr Lol. I can't believe you said, "Iran." I have a friend who has been denied access to college (or a life without fear for that matter) solely because he is a Christian, and had to move to the states.

"Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah ("companions with Allah" meaning the Second and Third persons of the Most Holy Trinity), for which He had sent no authority." Qur'an 3:151

  • @Killermuffin1 Yeah, and in the Old Testament they pretty much spend every single page killing a fricking lot of people just because they weren't the "chosen people". And Popes have sent many crusades at the middle age.

Pretty much all religion, especially monotheists, have the same bullshit about "killing heretics" written somewhere.

Not that I hate faith, but Religion IS the excuse n°1 to go and slaughter entire peoples and take their lands and riches since millenia, right ?

  • @AresNergal Since when has man needed an excuse.

  • @StSimonMartyr I'm not trying to be a supporter of the nation-state of Israel here, but I am equally bothered by crap put up by Islamist groups, especially those here in the West. Islam has elements of terrible violence in its pages. That is undeniable.

  • Islam and Muslims do not legalize abortion ie The ritual Slaughter of 100 million babies just since 1973 in the West. Jews do.

If that is not terrible violence, I dont know what is.

Muslims are Heretics no doubt, but so too are Jews and it is Jewry that has enslaved us all, not muslims

  • @StSimonMartyr Look, my point is that neither is a good thing. Both are murderers in apostasy in one way or another

  • @RoninAvenger

No christianity is the truth, Islam is a lie from the pith of hell and thr Jews are in apostasy!

  • @MrBrendaneoin22 Thr Jews? It's hard to tell what you're saying, do you mean "No- Christianity is the truth", or "no christianity is true?"

You gottuh work on dat dere linguistics

  • @MrBrendaneoin22

No, Christianity is the truth and Islam is a lie from the pith of hell and Jews there in apostasy!!

  • @RoninAvenger Judaism is evil. You can't dispute that.

  • @RoninAvenger Thank you for being a decent and accepting person. I'm christian and one of my best friends is Jewish and the other is Muslim. They're great people!

  • Father, I abandon myself into your hands; do with me what you will. Whatever you may do, I thank you: I am ready for all, I accept all. Let only your will be done in me, and in all your creatures. I wish no more than this, O Lord. Into your hands I commend my soul; I offer it to you with all the love of my heart, for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself, to surrender myself into your hands, without reserve, and with boundless confidence, for you are my Father.
  • Missa "Cum jubilo" - In festis Beatae Virginis Mariae

  • Jesus to Jews

Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.

The one who does what is Sinful is of the Devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are.

    -Christ 1 John 3:8

  • @StSimonMartyr When did you stop sinning?

  • 'Jews worship the devil: their rites are criminal and unchaste; their religion a disease; their synagogue an assembly of crooks, a den of thieves, a cavern of devils, an abyss of perdition!

God hates the Jews, and on Judgment Day He will say to those who sympathize with them., "Depart from Me, for you have had intercourse with My murderers!" Flee, then, from their assemblies, fly from their houses, and, far from venerating the synagogue, hold it in hatred and aversion.'

    ~ St. John Chrysostom

  • @StSimonMartyr The Devil couldn't have said it any better. Jesus laid down his life for everyone including the Jews for sin. He who hates the jews hates the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus was put to death by Rome the world ruling power of his time, in fact we all put Jesus on the cross" for all have sinned".

  • 'You belong to your father, the Devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a Murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is No truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is aLliar and the Father of lies.'

-Jesus To The Jews, John 8:44

  • @StSimonMartyr He was not speaking to all jews, he was addressing the Pharisees and those who were the religious fanatics, there is no number mentioned just a local religious crowd. Your truth is the motto for Neo nazis. Oh by the way, the Devil doesn't like jews either, so who's your daddy?

  • Wrong, Christ addressed all of Jewry.

“That this SATANIC FATHERHOOD cannot be limited to the Pharisees is MADE CLEAR.

    1 John 3;8-10″

“You Serpents, you generation of Vipers, how can you escape the Damnation of Hell?”

(Jesus – to the Jews; in Matthew 23:33)

CRUCIFY HIM, HIS BLOOD BE UPON US AND OUR CHILDREN!

    -Jews to Pilate

  • @StSimonMartyr Sorry all the disciples were Christians and his mother Mary all the Apostles, were ALL jews. Guess what Jesus forgave them all, he said "Father forgive them for they know not what they do". No one can hate his brother( all jews), and love God. If we say we have no sin, then the truth is not in us.The crowd that was there was being stirred up by the religious zealots and he was talking to the Pharisees John 8:13 look at the verse in Matthew 23:33 Jesus is addressing the Pharisees.

  • @MrStrontium90 I am an Orthodox Christian. Jesus Christ wasn't a jew. Jews were responsible for his "death". He forgave them as His nature is. Jews believe that Jesus was just a ordinary man, they still believe that the Messiah is to come. They don't believe in Him and that's why I think that Orthodox Christians and jews are very different.

  • @HellenicFinix I have two questions,

    1. do you believe that the OT and NT are Gods word

2.what is the lineage of Jesus and how do you know that information is 100% correct, what are your referances if you may?

  • @MrStrontium90 Luke and Matthew trace both Mary and Joseph's lineage beyond that of King David from the tribe of Judah, where the word "jew Juden( German ) comes from, down to father Abraham. The lineage to King David not only proves his human heritage as it also proves that he was "the King of the Jews" written in 3 languages by Pontius Pilate. Jesus was the legitimate heir to the Jewish throne . That is why Matthew calls him by title: "Jesus Christ the son of David the son of Abraham".

  • @HellenicFinix Jesus Christ was a descendant from king david. a Jew. also it says in John "he came unto his own and his own received him not."

  • @justinnetzel He talks about the nation not the religion. Part of jews religion was to sacrifice humans or animals in the name of God. Jesus did't want to sacrifice anyone in the name of His Father.

  • @HellenicFinix What are you talking about?? Jesus WAS the sacrifice. Jesus sacrificed himself for our sins. Jews NEVER sacrificed humans as human sacrifice was forbidden. You need to educate yourself.

  • @AegeanKing What about of the sacrifice of Abaahm's son? (to whom God sent an angel to stop). Yes he was the sacrifice from humans to God. Let me ask you something. Where are you from and what is your religion?

  • @HellenicFinix Abraham did NOT sacrifice his son idiot. God told him to sacrifice his son as a test be then stopped Abraham from killing his son. I am Greek and Orthodox.

  • @AegeanKing Don't call people names on here. It's very rude.

  • @AegeanKing Actually there ARE stories of human sacrifice in the bible Jephthah sacrificed his daughter with no last minute "reprieve" from God. Judges 11:29-40 NLT Also God, himself, demanded non-believers be killed, their towns and all burned as an "offering" to Himself. Deut 13:13-19 NLT. And then, there's that charming bit: Levit 27:28-29 where no one can be redeemed if he's been "promised" to the Lord, but has to be killed. This is good music, but let's not whitewash a book of bronze age

  • @ieguy3 The God of the Bible is the God of love, full of mercy. However, disobedience has consequences, if not in this life, then in the life to come.

The entire Book is the story of the Christ, each part working to the culmination of the incarnation and His fulfillment of the Law and the need for a sacrifice. Now, since His coming, we no longer need blood, death, or sacrifice, except our own, "freewill" offering of our will to His.

  • @AegeanKing God told someone to kill his son and then stopped him as a test and you see nothing wrong with that.... okay.

  • @Fishdogpigsquirrel It's really not that hard of a concept to grasp and Im not sure why you are having trouble with it. God was in control the whole time and would never let Abraham kill his own son. It was an exercise in faith and obedience. Like a trust fall. Also, why would you even be on this video if you have problem with things like that. You're obviously a an atheist troll looking for trouble. Get a hobby and stop trolling videos loser.

  • @AegeanKing I'm atheist, but I like Gregorian chants. I saw your comment and I had to say something. Also, a trust fall is different. I'm pretty sure the person falling knows that they will be caught and from my understanding, Abraham was actually ABOUT to kill his son if "god" didn't stop him. There is a difference between falling on your ass and killing your own child and I don't know whats crazier...the fact you don't see anything wrong with that shit, or the fact that you believe it.

  • @Fishdogpigsquirrel No, it's not. Not if the person ordering yo to sacrifice your child knows that he will never let you sacrifice your child. As I said, God was in control the whole time. I don't know whats crazier, the fact that you're a troll or the fact that you don't see anything wrong with trolling.

  • @AegeanKing The same story that inspires millions of Christians serves as an example to us nonbelievers of how dangerous absolute unwavering faith can be. To be willing to sacrifice your own child because you think it is what has been mandated by your deity.... I'm so glad I don't follow such a belief system!

  • @AdIgnorantiam Nobody cares what you believe in you atheist troll. Get out of your mothers basement and go find a hobby or a girlfriend. Do something with your life instead of bothering people with your nonsensical drivel.

  • @AegeanKing I came here to listen to the beautiful music, but after seeing the discussion, I decided to say something. Not everyone who posts an opinion you disagree with is a troll, although It's a nice way to avoid responding to my point. You could just insult me instead! And I'm sorry you think that simply sharing my opinion on the matter bothers you. Although I do find it interesting that between us, it is the believer who decided to throw out insults and behave embarrassingly.

  • @AdIgnorantiam No, you came here to troll just like every other atheist who trolls religious videos in order to spout nonsense. Also, you deserve to be insulted for your trolling. Its called righteous indignation. Lastly, I have already refuted your silly objections. get a life.

  • @AdIgnorantiam I'm apologetic that you were insulted by a believer; that should never have happened. However, I can also see where he's coming from, given your mildly condescending words "I'm so glad I don't follow such a belief system!", which were no doubt intended to provoke a reaction, and the way in which there have been so many insulting trolls recently that he may have mistook you for one. While I apologize on behalf of him, let's just stop arguing and enjoy the music.

  • Señor ten piedad

  • this is gregorian chant, the official chant of the Chatolic Church

  • this is very beautiful but i think the orthodox version(the original) one is even more mystic....

  • I could not help but notice there was a little disagreement among a couple of people a while back in this forum. I would just like to say this: You can quote the Bible all you want, but please don't forget the fundamental message of Christ. I believe these Chants are a gift, and are meant for everyone to enjoy, and receive their benefits. Regards, and Peace to all.

  • This is taken from: -GENERAL INSTRUCTION OF THE ROMAN MISSAL-

In the choosing of the parts actually to be sung, however, preference should be given to those that are of greater importance and especially to those to be sung by the priest or the deacon or the lector, with the people responding, or by the priest and people together.[49]

Gregorian Chants are also used for other rights and rituals performed by Clergy.

  • 41. All other things being equal, Gregorian chant holds pride of place because it is proper to the Roman Liturgy. Other types of sacred music, in particular polyphony, are in no way excluded, provided that they correspond to the spirit of the liturgical action and that they foster the participation of all the faithful.[50]

  • Thanks for this upload.

  • @Holly3278 I thought Gregorian were originally an order of the Roman Catholic Church, like the Benedictines, Jesuits, etc. I could be wrong. It may just be a style of singing within the RC Church, an ancient one at that.

  • @torro454 You're correct, these chants came from Gregorian Monks of the Roman Catholic Church. Very old, but very beautiful music :)

  • @ClarinetFreak007 I agree, this is very beautiful music!

  • @torro454 Gregorian refers to a Pope. It is associated to a specific period of time, in the middle ages, VI century AC, when this type of singing was created. It is the base of all western singing and still practiced today in the Catholic Mass.

  • @aeoferreira Ja, Pope Gregory. I suspect this could become very complicated, very fast. I understand the use of "chant" or responses in mass, and use by Clergy. If that is considered "Gregorian", it is an extremely broad term. What's AC mean? To me it means Alternating Current. I know AD "Anno Domini" which is Latin for: The year of our Lord('s birth). True, RC Monks did create modern western musical notation, over centuries. I'm unclear what you mean by "all western singing." Regards

  • @torro454 AC after Christ. I suffer from a latinisation of expressions. We use almost no expressions in latin when we speek Romance languages because they evolved naturally, so there's a tendency to translate everything. I stand corrected! Gregorian only means a monophonic (one voice) chant, where the lyrics are more important than the melody. By all western singing I mean the technical rules, which are the same, different from african singing (more guttural) or asian (tendency to falsetto) eg.

  • @aeoferreira Hello, I don't have much time for a response, and only had a chance to scratch the surface as far as research goes. Don't discount what you said, you may be correct. Thanks for your response, and I will post again when I get a chance.

  • @aeoferreira Hello, First I would like to thank you for bringing this to my attention. When doing research of this kind you learn so much more about history you never would have otherwise. I have not had a chance to talk to clergy, but I did find several sources. A person could write a doctorial thesis on this subject, and I am sure they have. The answer is that you are correct! I will post it in general forum. It gets confusing, so I will leave it at that. If you have a question just ask.

  • @aeoferreira Hi, I see. We use English BC Before Christ. A common misconception is AD means after death, but it is Latin. Otherwise there would be 33 years missing from the calendar. So we seem to pick and choose what to translate. LOL I see what you mean about singing. That is actually true about western musical score, and theory in general. The system today was developed around the 18th century, I believe. Again it's complicated. The quote is from Vatican web site. Regards, and Peace!

  • @torro454 Does AD mean Anno Domini?

  • @Diolord89 Indeed it does. That is actually abbreviated, the full version is: Anno Domini Nostri Iesu (Jesu) Christi ("In the Year of Our Lord Jesus Christ").

This is the only Gregorian Chant that is sung in Greek: Kyrie Eleison. The rest are in Latin. I think it has to do with structure of the music, and the repetition, it simply lends itself much better than Latin, for the arrangement and performance. Thanks for the question. Regards.

  • @torro454 Welcome, Latin is an awesome language, been wanting to learn it forever,

  • @WalkinWithJesus88 Why thank you Jesus man I was told this 4 months ago :D lol

  • It is a shame Rome banned Gregorian chants out of the church.

  • @henoch66 I live in Rome and I still listen them! They are not banned..

  • @henoch66 I've heard that roomer on, and off for many years. I was told by a Priest that they are much too important to the church to ban them. Now I have to figure out exactly what the RCC considers a "Gregorian Chant." I know the definition, but I need to clarify the details. Regards.

  • The perfect illustration for this music in my opinion. Christ

  • This is the sound from the raise from the matter to the purest of concepts. If we ask mercy it for we know there is the Light of Perfection and we would like to become one with it as the voices become pure beauty…and all this inspired by The Christ!!! Simply Divine!!!

  • ... no amarías tanto esta música si no fuera - como lo es - fruto del arte humano inspirado por Dios, su auténtico autor, quien es su fuente y su fin.

  • I like the painting of Mohammed at 0:38.

  • May Jesus have mercy on us.

We Adore You O Christ and we praise You, because by Your Holy Cross, You have redeemed the world.

Pray for us O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

We must have peace in the world, or the world in pieces.
