Well Zinn said it: If Obama continues to fight in Iraq (check); sends more troops to Afghanistan (check); No bold measures on economic front (check), then people will blame Obama.
Obama turned out to be more disappointing than any other US president, because we never had such high hopes with any before him. The higher the rise, the harder the fall I guess.
He does not sound like a tough grizzled old soldier but some kind of dandified Nancy boy, who is afraid of wars and he is indubitably no sea-dog but the sort of pasty landlubber I have always despised. I'll warrant, the most exciting thing that has happened to this limpid prawn in a whole year, was the day when he forgot to put sugar in his porridge!

jammoexii I totally agree with you. But remember this that MLK rode on the bus so that Obama could run and OBAMA has ran so that we as a people could finally fly here in America. You might not agree but speaking as someone who has had dogs biting them in peace marches and being sprayed and beaten and jailed and seeing some of our people killed then you would realize just how far we have come. When the white people side with us and vote in a Black man. Give him a chance. Then complain
Howard Zinn refers ad nauseum to the "possibility" of change under Obama without presenting an iota of evidence in support of this "possibility." Considering Obama's opportunistic and cautious political career, his obligations to the Democratic Party, his tremendous financial support from the corporate and political elite, the advisors who surround him, it is extremely doubtful that his presidency will be more progressive say, than Bill Clinton.
There is much going on, china and russia don't have to prove they are powerfull anymore..everyone knows it.
They don't have what is needed nor the will to impose theirself as sole superpower neither.
So Obama has much greater chance to coordinate and reform the security council, enhancing the international criminal courts role and budget, institutionalize sovereign states foreign intervention rights and deal with refugees with multilateral responsabilities.
the possibility is present due to the unusual economic circumstances of the current moment + people organising and agitiating for whats right.
There is more to this than just a matter of being passive for 4 years and then picking Shmuck #1 or Shmuck #2 and then being passive for another 4 years.
If people attempt the former then theres a good chance we'll see something, its not going to be a workers paradise of course, if people accept the latter then it will indeed be the same old.
I totally agree, but we the people have to hold OBAMA accountable. Not congress or the house. We do, we voted him in without us he would not be there so he is accountable to us no matter what. We just have to keep the pressure on to get things done. He would really get the message when Bush's ass and his cronies are tried for murder and treason and war crimes against humanity. I',m just saying
don't mean to join any cynics...but let's be real..there are (in the least) two zionists satelliting around Obama: Biden and Emanuel. so go figure how much "seizmic" change he can do, when it comes to humanizing the pro-israeli policy, by regarding the Palestinians as citizens of the world aswell.
how many troops did the USA have to send in to stop what Indonesia was doing for 24 years in East Timor? None. Bubba picked up the phone, told Jakarta that the party was over, and the Indonesians withdrew.
Of course you would need some sort of humanitarian aid force to pick up the pieces.
Fuck no. Barack Obama is nothing like MLK. MLK was one of the greatest figures in American history because he was seriously committed to real institutional change for poor people and against imperialism. Barack Obama is not.
Great man, great mind....a perfect example of somebody that did wrong in his early life, and has learned from their mistakes, as a human usually should....saldy so many people nowadays make mistakes, and are proudn of them.
@covertcovenant why cant ppl like Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky and Naomi Klein rule internal and external policies..be like voices or the concsience of america.
@Oxa1 I absolutely agree with you, I think it would do the USA a great favor and make the country a force for positive and progressive change all over the world. Unfortunately most ordinary people in the U.S. are not very educated, and oif they are, they are not very well read or aware of global and international affairs. Thus the U.S. masses are easily swayed and controlled by fear mongering rethoric from right wing pundits and hence will vote for those that the socio-economic elites prefer.
i love Howard Zinn,was a great man!

Looking at that Citgo triangle by Zinn's left ear is golden.

The fact that Al Jazeera English has had Howard Zinn on for an interview only increases my respect for this great news source :)

There has to be 100,000 peacekeepers (with enough power to defend their life and civilians life) and a confederation.
It is not viable economically to remain this way.
If Obama doesn't talk about that openly, he will lose the moral ground needed and will lose all his energies trying to redefine himself later on.

Zinn was a bombardier aboard a B-17 he flew missions over Europe during World War II. it's one the reasons he hates war so much.

I am aware of that, that's what I was referring to when I said he made mistakes.
